Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
Think he legitimately gained some separation tonight showing the complete bag: defense, physicality at the attack point creating space, and ability to shoot from 3 or call an audible iso-ing in the mid range.

Yup. I pretty much have him locked in at #1 and its been like that for quite sometime now.
Ya I dont see him as this AD/Zion/KD or even a Mobley kind of prospect. But I think he is solid and really no one else is coming close to playing like a #1 pick so far this year. I think its pretty easily Jabari at #1 and the conversation starts at #2.

yea, for sure not AD/Zion/KD...that's generational
and yea, wouldn't put him in the Mobley/Cade tier either most likely, maybe if he was a better rebounder or more passing juice
probably in the Towns/Simmons tier?

Jabari’s rebounding is dragged down entirely by his offensive rebounding numbers. He has a higher DRB% than Mobley (and similar to KAT’s). I don’t think it’s a negative.

Jabari has been #1 for a while. The question is who should be #2.

I think Towns is a tier above Simmons and Cade. He's a pretty special talent. Just my opinion though.
As far Jabari. I'm liking him more and more. IMO he's a Blake Griffin level talent coming out of the draft.

I think you go Chet here if you already have a volume scorer (IE OKC), otherwise Ivey if your shooting your shot and hoping he maxes his talent and becomes another Mitchell.
I have Chet as something between AK47 and KP w/ Ivey something like Donovan meets Fox. Clearly I am hedging my bets on these double comparisons lol.

Ya somewhere around there. I did have Ingram above Simmons pre draft, but ya Id say he fits somewhere around there.
Again I view Jabari as someone I wouldnt tank for and someone Im not jumping up and down for getting with the #1 pick. But Im also not mad about it either and hoping to trade down. He is just an okay #1 pick, not great but not bad either. So ya I would probably have him around that tier.

this is actually true, ORB% is low because on offense he's playing mostly in the middy range and 3pt land.

as a prospect? i think Towns was more seen in the Simmons than Mobley/Cade tier. IIRC a lot of people thought Okafor should go #1 that class.
feels like Cade was more of a consensus #1 guy than Towns was but I wasnt following the draft as closely back then.

Ya people weren't going crazy for the chance to land Towns. The funny thing is too that people were more excited about Towns as a defensive player than an offensive player at that time as well. Everyone knew he had potential as an offensive player, but Cal kept him down low for a good amount in college and no one really expected him to become one of the best shooting bigs of all time.
But ya KAT was viewed as a solid #1, not a great #1 that everyone wanted to tank a year to get.

for sure, i personally had Mobley #1 pretty much the entire time, but Cade was seen by the majority as the lock for #1 since HS and that's how it played out.
don't remember Towns being that kinda prospect, the way he developed offensively in the league I don't think anyone saw coming.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
He might have the "that's an NBA starting 4" body of a prospect I can think of since Blake Griffin (since 4s were supposed to be stronger back then). Just looks perfect for a modern NBA 4 if he bulks up as you'd expect in his early 20s.
Watched the final 10 minutes against Bama and his motor on defense and crashing the boards really stood out. I haven't seen enough to have a great sense of his ball skills or reading of the game on offense but he sure as hell looks like and seems to play hard enough to go #1 over Banchero or Holmgren considering there are scarier aspects to their candidacy.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
That was an incredible performance from Jabari. Played a really good team and displayed a lot of his game, and playing up to the opposition is a sign of a great player. He showed his usually shot-making but had a couple of good drives to the rim, crashed the glass late in the game and showed more defensive presence around the rim while doing a good job keeping up players on the perimeter. Besides a lack of playmaking, that was about as good as impressive and well-rounded as you'll see for such a young big against difficult competition.
I'm still focused on Ivey as my #1 for now but I agree that games like these have me separate him further from the rest of the pack and especially his direct competition in Chet and Paolo. And if he can show more of this down the road, he'll probably end up in my first tier.

I don't think anyone can knock him out of my #1 spot at this point.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
He is impressive, but I dunno if I can say he’s a clear cut #1 especially over Ivey. IMO he’s not a PG/Tatum type like some have comp’ed him to, since he doesn’t really have handle to create shots off the dribble or attack the rim (outside of straight line drives). I’d say he’s more of a Rashard Lewis/Danny Granger type with good defense. At least right now… a great base to build on, and maybe he can improve in those areas down the line like others have, but we’ll see.
Ivey I think will improve immensely once he hits the NBA game. I think the Ja/Mitchell comps are pretty close… let’s see what he can do with that speed on the next level… he’s gotta learn to maximize/get the most use of that skill.

Are we just ignoring the whole passing thing? Ja was on another level as a passer in college. I think Oladipo is probably a better upside comp for Ivey.

Re: Jabari Smith Jr. - Auburn
i don't get these Ja-Ivey comps at all, Ja averaged 10 assists in college, one of the best assist rates of all time in college...Ivey's a secondary playmaker at best. Ja is/was MUCH more of a true PG than Ivey is and probably will be.
