Re: [Woj] Reddish traded to Knicks
So Hawks traded Luka for Trae Young and a non lottery pick? Great trade from the Knicks perspective but I can’t really be mad at this from the Hawks. I think getting a contributing player is more important than a pick but I couldn’t make an argument that Reddish’s value is much higher than what the Hawks got for him.

Didn't Solomon Hill cheap shot Nerlens Noel last playoffs, now they're teammates...smart.

Really strange move to trade someone with legit potential away for **** all. Even if they wanted to get rid of Reddish they could've included him in a better deal.

Hunter and Reddish almost duplicate each other. And hunter is better and almost healthy (again....hopefully not injured again). So i get the reason for the trade from Hawk view point.

Feels like the Hawks got a pick to add to a trade to get a bigger fish. From a team that just didn't want Reddish. Wouldn't be surprised to see them mentioned in another trade within the week. They can't really want more picks to build at this point. They also can't really want to be a lottery team again this year. It will be interesting to see what the follow up move is here.

I was so wrong on Knox...I really liked his game coming out of college and thought he was going to be a better pro.
Pretty bad indictment that Kenny Payne could not salvage Knox. He looks the part but he lacks the experience to warrant being taken so high at the time by NYK. Plays with no urgency or heart and low BBall IQ, he would often just try and be a spot shooter. Shame because he looks fit and would come in fantastic shape but it never translates over.

No, he's 3rd year, so Knicks can have him for another year on cheap rookie contract. He's rookie extension eligible tomorrow.

I think whoever thinks this is a good move by the Knicks hasnt seen Reddish in the pros
One of the worst wing players averaging 25+ minutes, if not the worst last couple of years.

Yeah... Kevin Knox is beyond awful. He's easily worse than every G-League / 2nd rounder / no-name castoff that the Nets signed this year... Hawks could have done better.

Reddish has the worst off/on splits on the Hawks, -4.9. They did good to recoup a 1st for him.

Reddish is the kind of dude who is going to secure the bag and never work on his game again. Good luck Knicks fans.

This is a really solid deal for NYK.. Not sure what ATL was thinking on this unless they need that pick to grease the wheels on another trade.

Let's wait and see what fully transpires... this feels like a deal... to make a deal.

I get Cam is inconsistent and all that. But he’s still really young and his shot is finally starting to get consistent. Just feel like many teams should’ve been willing to give up this kind of return to take a chance on him.
Cause you also gotta pay him this summer, he's probably looking for more than teams are willing to go based on past production and not future production. Seems like the Knicks are okay with throwing some bread around right now.
Knicks are gonna have shed some salary soon or this summer tho
You actually don't need to pay him this summer. You can roll the dice on him being an RFA after next season. Knicks options are:
1) Sign him to a team friendly extension based on his performance the balance of this season
2) Trade him at draft time, where his low cap number makes it easy to structure deals, where his value could be up or down based on his performance the balance of the season. If he is decent this season NY could end up getting back a better draft pick for him than the one they gave up. Also, more contenders with restrictions on their draft picks will become eligible to trade the rights to that pick after making the selection on draft night.
3) Let him enter next season on a prove-it year, knowing you have the opportunity to offer more than anyone else (extra year or larger raises) or match any RFA offer. Yes, this also creates the potential for a team overpaying in RFA and losing him for nothing.
But I think we need to see how he plays this season, in the Knicks system, before anything else.
