He is mad inconsistent as a shooter so I ain’t even gonna call him a real stretch 5. He is not efficient scoring inside. Yes, he is a great shot blocker but defending in space is mixed bag.

Considering the cost, I’m good on Turner. He ain’t la schmooove.

Seconded.

I'm loving this instant reaction to the deal. It's fun and elicits evil, bad guy laughs. Huge upside young guys with incredible pedigree!

But then I reframe it and realize that our Knicks, who have spent the last few decades battling their addiction to forwards, would essentially be betting it ALL on trying to reconstitute one of the most talented college teams in recent memory, that didn't win a championship because the pieces didn't fit well together and the lane was always clogged.

RJ and Cam will be better shooters as 25 year olds than as 18 year olds. And it’s easier to clog the lane in college than the NBA.

Part of the problem with them is that they DID love each other which is why it was sometimes awkward in finding the balance of roles because they didn’t want any of the other to not feel they can play their game.

That’s a hard mix to try to get right in 1 year as 18 year olds. I say all this just to say it’s a lot more complicated in real life than just plugging in the players again because these are humans we are talking about.

That tracks

RJ put him in the blender, and we all know RJ can only score against scrubs, therefore Turner is a scrub.

Don’t listen to these stupid dudes. It’s not a given Obi going anywhere. He still has major allies in the front office, even if Thibs be doing him dirty.

I would not be surprised if Randle is traded. Leon tryna fix some of his mistakes. Obi ain’t one of them.

Thank god, about time Obi is freed.

EDIT: ok, I'm both anxious to see more Obi and gullible.

Ehhh I think it’s a combo of that and also the fact Cam isn’t that good.

But…..with that said, maybe Thibs can bring something out of him & this will only help RJ having people around he’s familiar with & potentially it opens up the Zion/RJ/Cam reunion. Zion would have to decline the Rookie extension which I high fu*king doubt he does that, we shall see tho.

Yeah, Cam's in year 3 and really hasn't been great

There are flashes, sure, but he hasn't put it together

So the Hawks don't want to extend him cause he's kind of an unknown quantity, and they've already extended Huerter and Bogdanovic, and Hunter is just better and also needs an extension

It's a gamble for us, but a calculated one.

He's put it together more than Knox though, I'd say.

And Knox is effectively expiring. So Knicks move Knox, plus an extra not that great 1st rounder, to keep another young player for 1.5 years.
Agree with your earlier points about Knicks needing to consolidate 4 mediocre guys into 2 good players, but this is good asset management that MIGHT turn out great, but is solid no matter what. Without taking into account how it buoys RJ over Randle.

As I said to MP, I don't think anyone is safe in the right deal. If Obi is out, we'll probably like the return.

I look at Leon’s first instincts when he arrived. He was gearing up to replace Julius (who was Pills’ signing). After how Julius has played in the playoffs and this regular season, coupled with the PR nightmare he’s been with the fans, I know Leon would move him if the opportunity presents itself. I don’t think Obi is someone they’re shopping, just as they aren’t looking to move Grimes. Teams may ask, but it’s not what we’re looking to do.

You could be right. My thinking is there could be certain categories of moves they'd make with each tier of player. Randle for Fox, for example, is an obvious deal that give or take a piece could happen. A somewhat lateral move for a better fitting piece. Obi/Grimes would be moved in a deal for another high potential rookie contract player. Zion is the obvious name there but not necessarily him.

keep in mind with having so many young players, like Grimes, RJ, IQ, Obi, Reddick, the knicks don't even have much roster space for a late 1st round pick to begin with, hence why it was easy to trade a first.

I'm good on Turner as well. Mitch is our guy, and he's starting to play really well. Forget Turner.

I'd also like to take this moment to give Grimes his flowers. I love this kid. Can't imagine he was actually a part of the Cam talks. No way. Grimes stays, and other guys have to go now to ensure he doesn't lose minutes to Cam.

For everyone dreaming up trades for Haliburton, and even Zion... I don't get it. How are we trading for either guy? I doubt Pelicans are entertaining offers right now, and I'm confused about the Haliburton rumors. They just drafted him. People think very highly of him. If he's actually available, what do the Knicks have to give up?

I'm expecting the Knicks to make at least one more move, but I think it won't be anything earth shattering. Just something to clear up some glut, address some of the issues we still have without giving up major pieces. Time will tell...

I wonder if that Celtics game helped this happen...this team needed somebody to defend bigger wings badly. Cam's a great a low-risk, high-reward play and another nice sign that RJ's getting his shot to be the guy for the team.

Either Julius or Obi gotta go because Thibs is never gonna play them together. Obi is the easier to move piece. Just seems inevitable. I dont see any plan for Obi here besides being Julius’ rest stop.
