I look at Leon’s first instincts when he arrived. He was gearing up to replace Julius (who was Pills’ signing). After how Julius has played in the playoffs and this regular season, coupled with the PR nightmare he’s been with the fans, I know Leon would move him if the opportunity presents itself. I don’t think Obi is someone they’re shopping, just as they aren’t looking to move Grimes. Teams may ask, but it’s not what we’re looking to do.
Either Julius or Obi gotta go because Thibs is never gonna play them together. Obi is the easier to move piece. Just seems inevitable. I dont see any plan for Obi here besides being Julius’ rest stop.
Obi has arguably more allies in the FO than Randle. He is younger, cheaper, easier to build around as his game isn’t as clunky a fit with other players as Randle. He has never rocked the boat or offended the fan base. In fact he is a clear fan fav. To boot, he isn’t viewed as a possible “mistake” by the guy running the show. I don’t think Obi is the goner that the narrative is running with today.
Julius is lately being patted on the ass for running around setting screens and moving the ball like a hustle PF, who can’t shoot but can facilitate. Only that’s not what he got paid for. His confidence is shot and it wavers on makes/misses. I’m pretty sure he has the yips and his mental makeup is not built for NYC. Leon knows this. He just has to find the right sucker. Jules is outta here. It’s a mere matter of time.
I’ve seen so many players not be able to perform in NY. You don’t just recover from that. Jules only time performing there was literally no one on the arenas.
Everyone here knows Obi is my guy. You dont gotta sell me on him, but the most important ally he needs is Thibs and he hates him it seems.
Of course Id move Julius before Obi but I dont think that will happen. Obi still wouldn’t play much more if Julius got traded most likely lol.
Something just has to give at some point because Obi hasnt even gotten the minutes that Frank, Knox, and many other Knicks scrubs have gotten. He cant play 10 mpg the next 3 years.
