Should we trade FRP for help
We have less than 1 month before trading deadline Feb 10, 2022. Should we be trading any FRP for help? Help here means acquiring a player for this season.
FRP = First Round Pick
FRP = First Round Pick

If the right trade comes along, sure. But just for the sake of a short-term playoff push? Nope.

Depends on who we’re getting.
But trading a frp this season would feel very Colangelo like.

Hypothetically, how about the Cam Reddish trade? If we had the opportunity should we have sent a lottery protected future 2023+ FRP for him?

I don't mind including a 2023+ FRP for the correct return. I'd argue that with our scouting, 2nd rounders are potentially just as valuable for us 2023 onwards - we've been able to find more experienced players in the 2nd round that can come in and act as role players more immediately.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if we were able to package the likes of Dragic and a FRP for a younger asset with some upside.

Better because at least he’d be an RFA soon. But I’d need to know what we’d expect as his next contract

CAM REDDISH?
No.
No.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I think either don't make any moves or likely traded combination of Flynn, Boucher, dragic and second rounders for some depth.
You could make a case for moving the first round pick if you are acquiring another player to add to the core of Fred, Barnes, Trent, OG, and Pascal

If it's for a guy who will be a core piece moving forward, sure. But not a short term fix.

Unless it's for an All Star player, no.

Hell no, we’re literally 1 game back from being in the lottery again.
That pick is valuable. Whatever we add likely won’t move us from mediocre (12-8) to the top 6. This team needs bench depth, they can add that in the offseason.
As for future picks, maybe if they’re heavily protected.

This is a pretty weak draft. As Duff said, it depends on who we'd be getting back.
For example, I would've been down to trade our 2022 first round pick (lotto protected) for Cam Reddish.
As long as the pick is lotto protected, I'm willing to move it for another young, intriguing player.

Re: Should we trade FRP for help
i rather trade 3 1sts for an impact player, vs trade 1 first for a 6/7th player.
trading for cam reddish is the kind of move where you get on the treadmill.
resign him, no cap flexibility, too good to get a high draft pick, not too good to be successful in playoff.
masai isnt fighting to keep his job; the knicks brass are trying to replicate their cinderalla story from last year.

Unless it’s part of a package that brings us a high end young player like Haliburton or something like that then no…so basically no

Re: Should we trade FRP for help
It's not going to be anything better than top 15, so why not? Unless you want to keep the pick for a depth play. But, you aren't odds on favorites to walk away with Siakam like talent at that depth, you're more likely to get a solid role player.
Hell, at this point I'm ok with trading all three tbh...but it has to be the right situation. We'd need really good talent coming back.

Unless you're getting a real game changer, it probably doesn't make sense, mostly for salary cap purposes. A team like the Raptors with a core of players who are already on their second contract need other players with those multiple years of control on rookie scale deals. That's where the value of 1st round picks really comes in.

Rather just use a 1st to draft someone like Cam Reddish.

No team is getting a game changer for a lotto protected pick and salary filler though. Plus this team has some pretty serious tax issues potentially coming up in the summer of 2023. They need to be championship contenders to justify paying the tax, which means acquiring a high end player to push them over the top, which means dealing multiple picks while giving up future flexibility.
