We already have a better, younger, and cheaper version of that in Barnes.

It's not a limited role tho. It's not the case "we only need 1 guy like that". You could have 5 players like that and it wouldnt be too much.

I wouldn't do Gary for Ben. Not even straight up. Never mind trying to match the crazy salary they gave Simmons.

I would think about Gary if we had more shooting but we don't so no. Simmons doesn't make sense for us in any way.

Who's actually been more valuable?! Fred

Who will be more "valuable" in a trade?! Ben

#1 draft pick with ALL the hype in the world vs an undrafted one with none

Not going to help a competitor to get out of their bad contract. Rather they keep Simmons for another year or two.

Interesting exercise...which one would be a better addition to the top teams?

Phoenix - i go with ben. Could slot him in various positions.

GS - Ben. Again....multiple positions

Chicago - Ben again. Multiple positions.

Memphis - ben

Utah - fred.

Miami - ben

Brooklyn - if kyrie is playing....ben. if not, fred

Bucks - fred (Holiday and Fred would make a SICK backcourt)

Philly - fred

Denver - fred

Dallas - fred

Cleveland - fred

Lakers - fred

Clippers - fred

It basically comes down with whether a team specifically needs guard help. Ben is more pluggable.

I don't see how you play Simmons off-ball, I just don't. Take GSW for example - Dray already does everything Ben does on defense AND offense (except maybe leading the fast break) and you can't really play them together. He'd have to scale down his game down to the level of Iguodala (who could at least hit a 3).

Is your calendar five years out of date? It's 2022 now - it doesn't matter which pick they were when they got drafted.

Is your brain dead?! I'm not claiming it does hence why I said Fred is ACTUALLY more valuable but that sentence is separating why one is PERCEIVED to have higher value (as Ben does) but not actually.

But he's not going to be more valuable in a trade - because GMs care about players as they are, and not how they were drafted.

Yes, casual fans might PERCEIVE Simmons to have more value, but in a trade? I don't think that GMs (you know, the people who actually matter here) would agree.

His free throw shooting is a bigger problem that his field goal shooting, if he's scared to attack the basket and play in the paint then he can't do much on offense at all. In the playoffs he went from shooting 70%, to 57%, to 38% in the playoffs last year, thus passing on that dunk against the Hawks. If he can get back to shooting better from the free throw line, he'd be much more useful.

He'd fit in well on a team like Boston that already has a couple of solid scorers, but needs playmaking and defense.
