What's the trade that gets it done for the Raptors?

Would Boucher + Flynn + lotto protected first get it done?

I don’t think that would be enough. That’s hardly any incentive at all for San Antonio

Gets them out of the McDermott deal and a PG prospect. Probably would include a 1st in that if needed.

Yeah we'd need to add an unprotected 1st at least. Maybe Precious.

I've been moving Poeltl to Raptors in Ben Simmons trades.

Philly get Murray+GTJ and give Simmons+Milton

Raptors get Poeltl+Young and give GTJ+Boucher

Spurs get Simmons+Boucher+Milton and give Murray+Poeltl+Young

Poeltl is not worth a 1st rounder IMO. Doesn't bring anything that can't be replicated to a high enough degree by a MLE type signing that it's worth giving up a 1st for.

Don't love GTJ going out. Spacing is already tough for this team. Any way you see it happening without any of the core going out?

That is severely underrating Poeltl. He’s become one of the best rim protectors in the league and he’s efficient on offense. Not a star by any means, but I’d say he’s a star in his role

Still just 26 too

The goal for the Raptors in this trade would be to preserve this rotation:

VanVleet
Anunoby / Trent Jr
Siakam
Barnes
Poeltl / Achiuwa or Birch (would prefer Achiuwa)

Rest can be moved.

The Raptors drafted him, so not really surprising that they still like him. Would be neat to see him back in Toronto.

I mean Poeltl is the starting C for the Spurs and GTJ is a bench wing on a healthy Raptor squad.

You have to give to get. I think it could probably be done with picks instead if Spurs are just trying to rebuild but it seems unlikely to me.

I think if we take on McDermott we gotta send out Birch's 3 year deal.

He's a harder guy to place value on but I agree. Heavily protected first at best. If he could shoot FTs it might be different.

Spurs probably just hang onto him for anything less than a non-lotto teens first

Think he have some decent value . Leaning towards a first rather than a couple of seconds .

I don’t think spurs are looking at picks or guards in a return for Poeltl

As I've mentioned, any Murray trade, I think, is an insta-no from the Spurs. Maybe he has told them something different, but I certainly don't think they'd change their minds as a way to get rid of Poeltl. Still, I appreciate that this return makes sense. So many Simmons/Sabonis deals pretends like the Spurs will just find another way to trade Poeltl for value. Using him as part of the compensation and preserving the Spurs' picks is nice for them.

I don't know why the Spurs want to get out of McD's deal unless they intend to max someone like Ayton. They'd probably only move him for value this year. After next season, maybe it's a different story. Maybe there's a three-team scenario where the Spurs could get a first for the combined actions of trading Poeltl and turning McD into a worse contract. But I don't think the Spurs move him without a first coming back or some scenario where the Spurs get another non-spacer like Simmons.
