SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 45: SPURS VS. SUNS, 17-1-2022, 7:30PM (CT)
We continue our home stand with even more reinforcements back, putting us in as good a position as we've had for weeks. Fresh off a solid two-way win, we look to build on good play while limiting mistakes: protect the ball better, protect our paint and arc better, gang rebound, and keep moving on O for a variety of made shots. If we can limit their talented perimeter players we have a good shot at extending our winning ways.

1ST Q: SPURS 29
SUNS 32
So we were really up 28-20 before missing everything, going stupid, and giving up a 12-1 run and the lead after the 1ST Q. JESUS.
Lonnie lmao
The bench has only scored 4 points, so that's got to get better.
Booker has 18 points!!! That has to get better, too.
We're doing a solid job on the boards 17-10, including 5-1 on O. Good job with only 3 TOs.
I hope we're as pissed off at this as we should be and come out roaring to get our lead back and build on it.

Dumb reads on D for their two open 3s, dumb reads on O for poor shot selection - it's like the team is getting Lonnie-itis and it's spreading - and it forces a Pop timeout.

Re: SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 45: SPURS VS. SUNS, 17-1-2022, 7:30PM (CT)
2ND Q: SPURS 56
SUNS 59
We tied the Q at 21-21, and I'm still thinking about the 12-1 run we gave up to end the 1ST Q.
We had LOTS of chances to score but some selfish shot selection, some poor shot selection in terms of taking 3s in a fast break when we didn't need it, and giving up open 3s are also frustrating.
They're getting into a rhythm in what they're running so we have to be all the more disciplined in protecting our arc and paint, especially on their high-low passes and P&Rs.
KEEP THE BALL IN OUR HANDS, FFS!
We're not pressuring them nearly enough and reacting more to what they're running. Like when one of their back court players gives up the ball we don't stay on them to pressure the return pass but sag and let it happen. There was Pop on the sidelines telling one of our players to get on up Booker even though he went all the way up to near the half court to get the ball back.
We're doing a good job blocking them at the rim but at times are allowing too wide open drives on broken switches. We're doing a good job rebounding, 27-22, including 7-5 on O.
They have 19 assists. NINETEEN. We have nine. So clearly they're running whatever they want and we are not playing our game. NONE of the four bench players have registered an assist, and each of them has made but one shot for a bench total of 8 points. Their backup C has 7 alone. Like **** be MORE AGGRESSIVE!
DJ is leading us with 13 points, the only Spur in double digit figures. Our starters are scoring efficiently, but we NEED our bench to be more supportive.
So far, none of Thad (no surprise), Drew, Joe, or Bryn (second game in a row - interesting) have seen any court time.
We've done a good job getting to the FT line making 7-10 and have made 5-17 from 3. We struggled in the 2ND Q making only 1-8 from the arc. Some weren't good chances (like on a fast break that wasn't executed fundamentally), but some were open and you take it if you have it.
I'd love for us to be far more assertive in imposing our game, far more aggressive in defending them cleanly, far more intelligent in our good to great shot generation and makes.
If anything, we're a bit too respectful in playing this team, and reacting rather than imposing our game. Let's get at it!

I like that we're trying the back door to start the 3RD Q, but we should also look to dish or kick out as they're sealing it up at the rim.

Jakob showing more of his O repertoire with that post up drive and up and under 2 at the rim.
We got a 12-point lead until they got a mini four-point run and a Pop timeout.
FINISH THE LAST 4 MINUTES STRONG, SPURS!

Pop JUST called a timeout.
We get 2.
WE don't read their P&R at ALL well for their open dunk.
Pop timeout.
