Mitchell is in concussion protocol. The concussion happened in Q2 during the Laker game, but wasn't diagnosed until yesterday.

Didn't think it would take an injury, but glad to see Jordan Clarkson getting the start in the game that is celebrating the Philippine culture.

Rotowire has wrongly listed Clarkson as the expected starter early in the day before when Mitchell has been out, but changed it later in the day to Ingles getting the start. My guess is that Quin keeps Clarkson in his role as the go-to-scorer off the bench, but I wouldn't mind seeing Clarkson get the start. Go Jazz!

With both Whiteside and Mitchell out, that is a combined 50 mins out from our rotation when everyone is healthy. To help fill the minutes void, I am hoping at least two of Paschall, Hughes, House, Valentine, Forrest, Doke or Butler play some meaningful double digit minutes tonight. Those guys don't get enough opportunities imo.

Paschall had a productive game off the bench the first time we played Houston, scoring 13 points on just 5 fga in 21 minutes of action, along with 4 rebs, 2 ast and 1 steal. Unleash the beast!

I'd just like to reiterate that as lacking as Clarkson is on the defensive end, that's how lacking Royce is on the offensive end. Of all our perimeter players, Royce is the most limited offensively.

On a night when Donovan and Rudy Gay were out, Royce made 1 shot, was scoreless in the 2nd half, and winged an open 3pt shot past the rim when he was completely unguarded. We celebrate Royce's toughness and rebounds only because they're completely lacking elsewhere on the roster.

If the Jazz want to be more bullet-proof contenders, I think they need two players: a) a versatile two-way guard with some size who can close games if matchups dictate, and b) a long, athletic wing who defends, rebounds and can score double figures when called upon.

I understand that Rudy Gay is supposed to be the second guy, but he's been too inconsistent to rely upon. Joe Ingles used to be a stand-in for the first guy, but he's pretty baked at this point. I'm pretty sure I saw him on a menu in Park City.

So I guess I'm not blaming other guys for their limitations so much as pointing out that two guys who are supposed to make us deeper and more versatile haven't really panned out.

Rockets scored 15 straight during Udoka's stint in the second half. Made 22 threes on the night. All the while Paschall sat on the bench. DNP, coach's decision. It's like under duress Snyder becomes a deer frozen in headlights. He just completely lacks any ability to improvise. And I reckon his inflexibility hurts the team and will always be exposed come playoff time. Depth of talent doesn't mean much when it's racking up DNPs.

I did not anticipate this loss. Those trap games sneak up on you. I know Mitchell was out but was the entire team on concussion protocol?

I would say I am surprised, but why would I?

We lost to the bottom teams in the Eastern Conference (Detroit and Orlando) and also lost at home to the Pelicans.

Just another day in the Jazz fan life.

I keep forgetting to cancel my NBA League Pass, I just received one more bill for this month. Damn.

Missed all of the game except for the last three or four minutes, but I am disappointed that Paschall didn't get some run. P/F Gay was out in addition to guys mentioned in the early morning Rotowire report. Paschall has played well lately imo and he played well against Houston the first time we played them. Looks like Houston rotated a couple of guys at PF, Tate and Martin, who are both shorter and lighter than Paschall. Houston's centers aren't that big either. Maybe Paschall could have beasted these guys a little bit with some drives and muscle finishes at the rim?

It's really ugly to see this bunch of talented players losing vs teams as weak as Detroit, Orlando, Pelicans, Houston or PacersX2.

1) remarkably underachieving Jazz
2) with fragile defense,
3) streaky (by its very nature) 3p-oriented offence
4) and all that hype around moderately bright offensive star and a half at the expense of team "working horses" options and developments.

This team is just a victim for any team which really want a win. I decidedly prefer starless AK team which fought each minute while on the floor. It only miss Harden or-and Westbrook to become poor market Knicks/Lakers version.

Seems like we are getting less of the blender lately. We are getting a lot of Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson, Bogey and Conley taking turns going one on one, and Clarkson has been less effective at it this season than last season. Also seems like we take more long threes early in the shot clock without a pass or with maybe just one or two passes.

We are just barely past the halfway point of the season though. Maybe the Jazz can adjust with better schemes, different rotations or a trade.
