It’s funny as good as a season Jokic is having he will likely be 2nd team all nba this year. All Joel needs to do is play the rest of the season and the MVP is his. He is 23-10 when he plays Jokic’s nuggets are 23-20 lol

You don't know any of this.
It's like saying MJ would have dropped 45+ in this era, or like saying Wilt would have 35+ rebounds.
I can say too that if prime Dwight was in the league today, no big would think to post him up.
I can't prove it tho.
Dwight was a legit MVP candidate for a team that was going against better teams.
In his prime he was the real superman. Only Wilt can be considered as superior athletically and that's up for debate.
He used to get completely dominated by Yao in his prime, his career stats vs Yao were 12/10, to Yaos 24/10 and had a 2-7 record against him. Dwight had no post game, no jumpshot, wasn't a great passer and relied completely on athleticism. The top scoring centers when he finished second in MVP voting were Amar'e, LaMarcus, Andrea Bargnaniand Brook Lopez. The top PERs from centers when he made the finals were Dwight, Duncan, Al Jefferson, Yao, 37 yr old Shaq, Amar'e, Bynum and Andris Biedrins.
It was a terrible era for centers where you had guys who were PFs playing C because of how watered down the position was. Dwight would not be the top C today, not by a long shot.
I have read the exact same things about Giannis. I always laugh when i think that these things are being said for the best player in the world in the last 4 seasons.
Anyway, we won't agree on this one.
It's all good.
Giannis has a handle, he's an outlier for his height and position, he starts his attack 23 feet from the hoop. Dwight didn't have 1/10th of the scoring variety as Giannis. His offensive game was faceup, dribble left and spin back right to try and body the defender, that was basically Dwight's entire offensive arsenal.
If you want a good laugh, here's prime Dwight in 2009 pre back injury vs Yao.

lol comparing apples and oranges.
why comparing Embiid when he plays with Jokic when he both sits AND plays?

MVP odds at major betting sites have Curry as the favorite, followed by Giannis and Jokic with Embiid being in the 4-6 range. I'm not sure what you're basing your statement on besides wishful thinking.
What would you be willing to bet on Embiid winning the MVP and becoming All-NBA 1st team?

Re: Embiid is the Best Big man in the Game
Over the last 4 seasons Embiid has played 6300 minutes and Jokic over 8000
Even if you think Embiid is slightly better he doesn’t cover anywhere close to what he costs you in games missed relative to Jokic
And Jokic has wildly outperformed him in the playoffs
To me it’s obvious. Even barring health I’d take Jokic but factoring health in it’s a landslide

Jokic : 41 mins

Seriously. If Embiid would have played 41 minutes last night, he would have had 70 points and 20 rebounds.
Do better, people.

Jo set the NBA record for the least amount of minutes for a 50 point double double. (He’s also is a force in the defensive paint.)

Just the other day Embiid tied Iverson and Wilt for Sixers franchise history of consecutive 30 point games and broke the road record of consecutive 30 point games for the franchise.

Re: Embiid is the Best Big man in the Game
Since it seems like Jokic’s vastly improved defense is here to stay, there just isn’t any legitimate argument for Embiid over him. It’s just not close, sorry Sixers fans. One guy is an offensive system unto himself who only gets better in the clutch, and the other guy picks up 8 turnovers and chucks his team out of the playoffs because he’s extremely limited if he has to create for himself and others.
Embiid’s a great, all-time player. He isn’t remotely as versatile or as valuable as Jokic and it’s hard to see that ever changing, barring injury.

The game winning assist?
Forget about it.

How the heck do you define Embiid as “extremely limited” if he has to create for himself or others? Guy is the complete package. Jokic is relied on more as a playmaker and better at it. Embiid is the better defender in terms of controlling the paint and being more versatile in switching situations. Both are unstoppable scoring when they assert themselves, which both do consistently.
This argument between him and Jokic is splitting hairs imo, they are both great, and anyone on either side is not likely to change their mind unless we see a philly/Denver finals.

Re: Embiid is the Best Big man in the Game
This is like arguing nadal Vs Federer. I’m a fed fan but learn and respect nadal over the years and even cheer for him. Now I actually cheer for Novak as much as people despise him. I appreciate greatness
Same can be said embiid Vs Jokic. I learn to watch more of his game. Respect it. He won’t ever be a great defender but dude is respectable on defense. He knows his spots when to defend. And obviously on offense. He’s for so many levels to score whether to post up. Mid range and obviously the passing.
So Jokic is still improving. And I respect that
From embiid side. He’s finally getting it this season. Getting more assists. Learning to play within himself. Less bully ball and more fluid offensive flow to get to his spots. Embiid defense will always be there but he picks his spots. His rebounds have gone down the last couple of seasons. I think it’s just him choosing when to exert energy or not. Same with the drop down cover Vs chasing the pick and roll.
So appreciate both of them for their greatness
Hope Murray comes back 100% for Jokic.
Hope embiid gets the wing iso playmaker he needs as well.
Cause it’s a guard league and centers need their sidekicks down the stretch.

he was also playing the worst team in the league while Jokic was playing a team fighting to stay in a play off spot.
probably the most marked difference was that Jokic did a lot of his work in the clutch with the game on the line, given Embiid's play off performances it's perhaps not surprising he does his best work against terrible teams with no stakes.

Jokic's defense has been more than solid this year. It's not Embiid's DPOY level but he's a plus defender this year.

Just stop. I can read a box score. Who the f was playing for the Clippers last night - huh?
Zubac with 32? Reggie FREAKING Jackson? What has he ever done?
And what the f is that word salad about "Jokic did a lot of his work in the clutch"? Don't get me wrong - Jokic had a great game, and he helped the team win - IN OVERTIME AT HOME - against a team that will be lucky to be a play-in team (again - I can read the box score and see who played).
So...why didn't Embiid "do his work in the clutch"?
BECAUSE HE SCORED FIFTY FREAKING POINTS IN TWENTY SEVEN MINUTES

Hell Giannis deserves to be first in the big man convo over Jokic and Embiid.
Embiid is a distant 3rd.
Giannis is miles ahead of Embiid overall. Peak, total career value, accolades. He has better stats right now even and is the better defender. What argument does Embiid have over Giannis.
Also Embiid is a way worse playoff performer than Giannis. Giannis "bad playoff" runs top Embiid's top playoff runs....
The thing where people pretend Giannis isn't a big because he's good at dribbling is let's say different at best. In any case Embiid is indeed awesome and for sure a top three big in the game. No shame in that with two all timers ahead of him, he might even be third best overall in the entire NBA.
Its honestly silly to not consider Giannis a big. Jokic can dribble and he can pass better than most PGs, does that mean he isn't a big?
Embiid can shoot 3s and free throws well, does that mean he isn't a big? Seems like moving goal posts to make their own favorite player look better than they really are by removing Giannis from the discussion.
Embiid is great but people act like his injuries concerns don't exist and act like he hasn't had numerous playoff failures. Meanwhile people rag on Giannis before last season for his playoff failures when he still was pretty good in the playoffs compared to Embiid.

i think there was a thread about how joel was at 44% from the field, he actually managed to climb all the way up to 50 % while continuing to flop like a fish and take a ton of midrange shots. last 10 games hes shooting 55 percent. He needs to be better on the glass though, his hustle on defense has taken a nosedive this year.

Re: Embiid is the Best Big man in the Game
I don't get the odd desire by some here to put Embiid over Jokic. Jokic is having one of the best seasons in NBA history. Embiid is having what in some years could be a poor MVP season. That's a huge gap.
