Re: Options to fix the PF hole
If Clipps want to save on lux tax, could they trade Batum into Theis TPE, maybe with some cash and a conditional 2nd 10 years out also going? Maybe also coupled with a Simonovic for Hartenstein swap to sweeten for Bulls…. Hart is just more versatile than Bradley…
Would need to clear roster space but that could be done.

I’m not sure why Brooklyn would want to do this trade unless they think Simonovic has some upside as a prospect. I don’t see how they would want to help a team in the short term that they are competing against for playoff positioning.

The original tweet said that they would work to get Milsap into a better situation for him. Obviously, that can be interpreted in a number of ways, but you would assume his preference is a contender where he can get minutes. The Bulls wanted him, he nearly picked us...so I imagine we're on the list. The Nets don't think he's good enough to help them, so I'm not sure if they necessarily see it as a big deal to trade him to a conference rival, but maybe they do.
Also, since they've buried him on the bench it's hard to argue that they can get anything of value. Simonovic isn't much, but he costs over a million less than Millsap, which may mean something to them since they're paying the tax.

I think its right that the Nets probably don't want Simonovic. I read they want to open up a roster spot so they can convert Kessler Edwards two-way deal into a normal contract. So I bet they are just looking for a heavily protected 2nd round pick.
Maybe there is a 3-way trade opportunity somewhere? A non-competitive team like Orlando, Houston, Detroit or OKC that would want to take a look at a young player. And they send a second round pick to the Nets.
Nets get: heavily protected 2nd round pick from rebuild team (and frees up a roster spot for Nets)
Rebuild team gets: Simonovic
Bulls get: Millsap

Re: Options to fix the PF hole
With Ball and DJJ out for a while, we really need a body login minutes at the 4.
If we really were second-close in the Millsap hunt, he will prefer a trade here. We are even a more interesting destination than we were back in September.
Unless AKME have something bigger on the sleeve, I guess they will be interested in bringing him. Yes, he has regressed so much from last year but I think he is still useful.
Who do you trade (or waive, as you have to open a roster spot anyway)? Marco, Thomas or McKinnie?
I think McKinnie is the odd man out. I don´t see AKME giving up Marco so soon and Thomas has been playing more lately.

IIRC, we can't trade McKinnie...not enough time has passed. Marco is a multi-year deal, so that's unattractive. Thomas might be of interest to the BKN. Can we augment with cash considerations?

Yeah, good catch. Mckinnie can´t be traded this season. Maybe just waived? Is his contract fully guaranteed?
I couldn´t care less about Thomas but I thought his spot was more secure than Mckinnie´s.

Re: Options to fix the PF hole
I wish McKinnie would've panned out. He's got the size and shooting potential, but probably need more time to get accustomed to this system. Because of all the injuries, he's being asked to do way too much (starting) rather than playing in a limited role. Good for him to perform well enough and secure a real NBA contract, but looks like Billy's pulled the plug on that experiment.
I would sign somebody with size like Millsap if it means we get to actually play Caruso at his natural position instead of at the 4. He's crafty, but he's still super undersized. I feel like that's a double loss there - to steal a certain coach's soundbite. We're also only talking bench minutes here. We don't need them to be starting or closing games or playing big minutes.
These are who I want closing games for us with Lonzo out:
Caruso / Ayo or Coby / Zach / DeMar / Vooch

Re: Options to fix the PF hole
I'd throw Portland's first + filler at The Griz for Brandon Clarke. That guy in 20-25 minutes is an absolute monster and has been his entire young career. His D style seems to be perfect fit for how the Bulls are trying to play. On O, he'd be DJJ on steroids, so in essence, between him and DJJ you'd have a super-bouncy, super-high energy "big" manning the 4 for all 48 minutes.
He's a rim runner almost exclusively, but given how much attention the Bulls big 3 get, a smart rim-runner is not the worst thing to have on the team for 20+ minutes a night. Plus, he's just big enough and strong enough to handle bigger wings and 4s.
May not be a bad idea.

Millsap isn’t the same anymore. Maybe as an option for off the bench but he doesn’t make a difference like some of you think he will.

If he's young and a monster, why would they trade him for a lousy 1st and filler when they're competing for a championship?

Yeah I don't picture the Grizzlies as sellers unless something bad happens to Ja or JJJ.

If we could get Brandon Clarke he's definitely a nice piece for us. Not sure why Memphis would deal him though, not even worth thinking about.

Chances are that the playoff teams arent going to trade anybody unless it upgrades their rosters. Bulls have to look to the lottery squads. Just depends on their targets and who they are willing to give up.

They probably won't. He's too good of an insurance for JJJ. But, he's got real size playing ahead of him at the 4 & 5, and real scoring talent ahead of him on anything considered a wing position. He's a 18-20 minute specialist, especially on a team that's very talented. Is that worth a future 1st if you're the Grizz, especially considering that after not-too-long you'd need to pay the guy? Do they want a TBJ to shore up the wings, maybe? That's why AKME get paid the big bucks.
Just an observation that a 20 min player that maybe be obtainable fits what the Bulls currently need like a glove. On another note, his career is 'young' because he was drafted 'old'. But, he's 25, so not a younglin' by any stretch any more.
Might actually work.

The window to get Clarke at a reasonable price slammed shut before the new year. He's been really good for them since the end of December.

I'm still down for this move, especially if the Bulls ascertain that it's worth pulling the trigger on! They're going to vet the situation and find out if he can accept the role we have to offer. If so, I think he'd be really good at it.
