I personally do that Utah trade. I know some people still believe smart will turn into a great offensive player but I personally think he's only going to get worse from here. On top of that his defense isn't what it used to be.

Of course as someone mentioned above you include Dennis Schroeder that doesn't leave any point guards besides Pritchard

I iike Bojan a lot. The first thing that really pops in my mind when I think of him is how Boston ran him off the court in the playoffs when he was with Washington (you know, one of the last fun Celtics teams? *pours one out for them) then the very next year (the year Cleveland won the title *vomits) he guarded Lebron as well as anyone in the playoffs that year. In my opinion, that's kind of where his career turned from mostly a low-level starter/bench scorer to a solid starter/big shot maker.

I think he would be a great fit on this team, even at the expense of losing Smart but my main concern is his age. I mean, 32 isn't old but I'd rather try to parlay guys like Smart and Horford into younger guys who can grow with the Jays. Also, he's just not a needle mover, same for Conley. I think they're both really good players but are they going to help us win a championship? Sadly, I don't think so.

Although I bet that Utah flips Horford for a better player than what we have, almost guarantee that happening, lol. I also cannot see why they would really want Horford? Perhaps a 3rd team comes in on this as the above deal also has Utah taking in almost 7 million MORE in salary than Boston

Its a very risky deal though, IMO. and I only am ok with trading Smart because Richardson is here. 85% of the defender Marcus is but 115% of the offensive player he is.

BB could leave in a year and Conley is 34 and under contract for 2 more years after this one.

I would be surprised if we left ourselves with only Pritchard as a true PG on the roster, but who knows?

I guess, if you regard Smart's contract as a negative. With the way salaries go up every year, I don't really think it will be regarded badly, personally.

I don't know, $20M a year is a decent amount to pay for the ~5th best guy on a contending team...

Very easy to dump on OKC for cap room....if they do something like this for expiring contracts that they can dump it does bode very well for them being a player in FA

We already have our PG in Pritchard. If he was starting and getting 30 mpg he'd have FVV numbers. However, neither he nor any PG you get in a trade will actually run/initiate the offense since Tatum seemingly needs the ball to ISO so stressing about PG makes no sense. In that regard, getting Bojan for Smart DOES accomplish a couple things. It gives us better spacing and another guy who can hit threes off of Tatum, Brown and PP. And it gets us out from under that awful Smart contract.

All that said, the easier solution would be to just start PP and Nesmith and move Smart to the 2nd unit to be our super 6th man. It solves all our issues. The fact that this hasn't happened means to me, that Smart would not be receptive and Brad and Ime are cowards and inept. If true, it also means the narrative that Smart is all about team and this great leader, are laughably false.

Bojan is an embarrassing defender though. If Brown was still an elite defender this wouldn't concern me but he isn't. And losing Smart's defense on top of it creates a problem that might negate the effect on offense. We'd turn into the Jazz and the Jazz would turn into us. Essentially a pointless trade for both teams imho. But because we'd get off Smart's contract we'd come out ahead?

I don't know for certain that Smart straight up for Bogey is a trade I'd do. You wanna trade 4.5 years of a 27 year old for 1.5 years of a 32 year old? That's....not a great value proposition. And this coming from a guy who isn't the biggest fan of Smart.

Then you add in Schroder? That leaves the C's with no PG. I think in that scenario you'd have to have draft assets coming back from Utah, not from Boston.
