Expect: Kuz & KCP to stay. Kuz has flashed and KCP is Beal's guy so I expect these two are nearly untouchable.

Expect: Shepp to try to move Deni & Montrezl for Grant, that's no secret. Detroit squeezing for more before deadline and will likely get it. Grant really wants it too and sees a chance to be a #2 option for his hometown team while making a playoff run.

Expect: Either Holiday or Bertans (maybe both) to be moved. Bertans possibly for another anchor deal but either on a shorter contract by a year or for a position of need.

Would not be surprised: If Shepp makes the move the get that protected pick back from the Russ deal (or adjust protections) only to free up the ability to trade that pick and additional pick(s) as part of larger deal to bring in a quality player or two.

Yes. This is likely to happen, given that Beal ain't going nowhere. Full disclosure: I'd trade him for a reasonable package but Tommy (and Terd) won't.

I think it's obvious from reading the tea leaves that Tommy is going hard for Grant. In that case, I hope Tommy is trying his best in negotiating a "discount" with Beal, given that Grant is likely to ask for a lot in his upcoming extension.

Only thing that give me solace is that Tommy is a PR guy. But boy, Beal loves talking about how this is his team, I wish he'd act like that as leader. I hope Beal has many of us eating crow one day I just don't think its even within the realm of possibility.

Beal isn't even the best player on the team

Bring Russ back! I know he can't be directly traded here, but it could theoretically via a 3-team perhaps?

This works in the trade machine:

Wiz trade Dinwiddie+Bertans+Holliday for Westbrook
LAL trade Westbrook+THT+2027 1st for Wall+Bertans
Rockets trade Wall for Dinwiddie+THT+Holliday+LAL 2027 1st

Just 3 words: trade Bradley Beal.

9 turnovers against Toronto and (as usual) **** D. Heck, I’d trade him straight for Sabonis and never look back.

^Let's just say it wouldn't take much more than that for me. Obviously it would necessitate other deals.

Of course they could get more for him than that. Resigning Beal likely means the ceiling for this team will be a 6th seed at best over the next several years. But that would be fine with Uncle Ted.

the hot take is that we'd have to add value in a beal for sabonis trade if we were grading on actual value instead of perceptions. beal has been dramatically exposed this year the same way harden has.

Absolute no way. At some point you hold your ground and don't get walked over.

Yep. Agreed. I’d pick Sabonis as my franchise player way before Beal who fits more as a (expensive) number 2/3 option.

I agree with the first point.

I mostly agree with the second point. They're not quite untouchable as they could be moved for a guy like Simmons, but it's unlikely.

The third one is where I disagree. I just don't see how we can trade for Grant without sending out Bertans in the transaction. The cap numbers just don't work out. Next year, we'd have Beal at $42M, Grant at $20M (and wanting $28M the following year), Bertans at $16M, Dinwiddie at $20M, Kuzma at $13M, KCP at $14M, Gafford at $2M. That's already $127M. Now add in the cost of another center (presumably Bryant at $5-10M), the cost of whomever among Kispert ($3.3M), Rui ($6.2M) and Avdija ($5M) are left, and the cost of the pick ($3M) and we're at $145-150M. The luxtax is $145M. And next year, it gets worse with Grant wanting a raise, Beal getting $3M a year raises, and Rui getting a raise.

And if Bertans is included in the Grant acquisition, just Deni alone won't be enough incentive. We would have to trade picks and the first one we can trade is 2027.

And to your final point, it looks like you believe Sheppard is putting all of his chips on the table - betting the future to put a team around Beal. All I know is that Sheppard has resisted that throughout his tenure. He has seen first hand from Grunfeld that when you go "all in" before you have a strong enough foundation, you inevitably peak as a 48-win team before collapsing. We clearly do not have the foundation.

Would Philly do Simmons, Maxey, 1st for Beal?

At this point, I'm hoping someone protects us from ourselves if there really is merit to these Grant rumors and trades for him before we do.

Right now, Phi brain trust thinks that a player who hasnt seen the floor this year is worth much more. They think Simmons is worth a handful of 1st round picks and some good, if not, great players in return. Till they come to their senses, nothing realistic can be done.

One more... I really like Wall, but he hasnt sniffed the floor this year. Of course, HOU wants Westbrook AND a bunch of pick for Wall. Who, from HOU, wouldnt want a trade like that. Heck, do it 2X...or 3X. Some homers putting up trade bait...

I've admittedly been against trading for Simmons, and still stand by my critique of him as a player, but you'd have to jump all over this as the Wizards.

With that said, we are talking about Morey here, and giving us Maxey and a 1st watching how watching Beal's performance this season imagine them offering that kind of pack. I suppose maybe the Embiid window puts a lot more pressure on them, and Beal would likely look a lot better next to Embiid. Then again, why not wait to pursue Harden, who is better?

Picks are nice, but Embid + Beal could = Championship this year. What's that worth?
