Should Embiid slow down as 76ers have already given up on this season?
It has been mentioned that Morey will try to use Simmons to get Harden in offseason. So he would not trade Simmons this season unless a team become really desperate and give up huge assets for Simmons (Beal or Dame). That means he has determined that 76ers cannot win championship this year.
Should not they slow down Embiid too so that he does not waste his health and energy? May be play him 2 games then 1 game rest? And in those playing games put him on strict minutes restrictions? I think it make sense to conserve him so that he can make a bigger splash next season.

I am certainly not a Philly fan but the narrative that they have already lost is really stupid

This is Morey's narrative. He think unless he gets a superstar back like Beal or Dame this season, there is no point in trading Simmons as the team will not improve much to win championship. So basically he has already given up on this season unless he get a superstar back.

He can still win MVP. If he wants to persue that it shouldn't be taken from him

With that logic he may be giving up on the season for the next 3 years...there's no guarantee that they'll get a superstar back. You don't squander an elite big man's prime.

Thats how he acts and majority of 76ers fans support his actions.
Next year if he do get Harden then everyone will praise him. In that case it will be a bummer if Embiid is not playing at the highest level with Harden. So its better to shield Embiid this year and try to win championship with full force next year.

Curry is at best 5th in the MVP conversation. Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, and Durant are ahead of him. Morant is slowing catching up.

Of course, yeah, sit Embiid down and tank, it's so obvious, duh.

You go all out, every year. No excuses-if you lose you lose but you go 100%
In year 2 MJ came back from a broken foot-demanding ownership to let him drag a terrible team into the playoffs. That's what stars do

Imagine if Philly makes even a minor trade and Joel leads the 76ers to a Championship. He's playing for it and an MVP.srhcan wrote:It has been mentioned that Morey will try to use Simmons to get Harden in offseason. Don't rob the fans of what they've paid for. Joel should play and continue to play hard, even if Philly has no chance of making it out of the second round.

The same logic can be applied to Jokic as well - he's missing major pieces of supporting cast. You don't shut down an MVP level player simply because your team isn't at 100% of its potential.

I could see sixers resting embiid if sixers were 15-31
But Jesus. They are 27-19 and 24-11(with embiid). They are 2 games out of first place with nets and bulls dealing with injuries
Sixers themselves have have 3-4 guys out almost every game since their 8-2 start. Tons of guys missing games. Imagine if they even get back their rotation players And I’m not even talking about Simmons missing all seaosn.
Sixers have not been healthy all season and still 2 games out in the lost column and have played a ton of road games already. They got a 5 game home stand coming up.

Re: Should Embiid slow down as 76ers have already given up on this season?
Crazy logic might as well go full tank and rebuild then. If you are saying he gave up and Embid is having a stellar season. Might as well trade him and get some more picks and trust the process again. This BS situation is exactly what his initials are. But at the same time you play as hard as you can and try to win. Maybe just maybe BS will be like lets just talk it out and forgive and forget and play. Then all is good.

This is not tanking. 76ers are still pretty good if Embiid slow down and will make the playoffs.
I am talking about shielding the investment in Embiid who do has a health history. Since Morey has given the verdict that team is currently not good enough to win championship without another superstar so it is better to shield Embiid until that another superstar (Beal or Dame or Harden) come onboard. It makes logical sense.

But Jokic do not have those health scares as Embiid. And Jokic do not play for a person who is willing to sacrifice a season unless he is getting another superstar back in the trade.

I also think this is one of the stupidest threads I have ever seen on the GB in my 20 years of coming here. So - congratulations on your accomplishment!
