Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but remember the officers were dealing with an agitated, 7'0 man. The fact that they managed to handle it without anyone sustaining any injury is very fortunate.

That said, American cops are dumb and combative. Cops kept escalating things. Like they’re grown men and they don’t have the patience or skills to talk to a scared, immature, defensive college kid. He literally looked like he just wanted to go and hide in his bedroom. They just kept grabbing at him and trying to physically control him. Bloody Morons.

“Imma call you back....imma call you back” — that is freakin hilarious.

Yeah. They should have let the 6’11 combative man who just assaulted a woman back into the same residence he assaulted her in. Brilliant! Just brilliant!

slowly walking away isnt combative. Also, ACCUSED of THREATENING TO assault someone.

Physically control him? They're there on a domestic violence call accusing him. They need to enter, assess the scene & talk to the abused person without him present to potentially intimidate her into something other than her side of the story. He refused to let them enter & wanted to re-enter himself. All he had to do was wait outside & let them interview the victim. Aside from kneeling on his neck while trying to restrain him, I honestly don't think they could be reasonable expected to handle it any better, given it's a 7 foot, peak physical condition athlete that you have to assume is violent, since that was the reason they were called to the house in the first place.

Yes the police handled themselves well, if you accept that the cops have the patience, communication skills and intelligence of a bloody rock.

Stuff like this only happens in corrupt third world states and america friend...ok well precovid that is!

read this slowly: the policeman's job is to serve and protect ALL parties.

Dude.. don't do that. Just don't. Resorting to logical fallacies is a bad look and serves no purpose but to devalue your own argument. Why go down that road?

The cops actually showed a great deal of restraint here. Good on them.

In America, we don’t stand for grown men assaulting women. That may be your mindset, but it isn’t here.

He wasn’t an immature kid who was scared, he was a grown, 6’11 man who had the police called on him by a scared lady who accused him of assaulting her. They have to handle that with the utmost seriousness and caution, whether you like it or not.

Precisely. Your example somewhat harkens back to the case of Jacob Blake. The police arrived on a call for what could be perceived as domestic violence. He went back to his car and the police told him not to so so. He had a weapon, a knife, in the vehicle. He ended up being shot 7 times and is lucky to be alive. Reports vary but seem to say that he was not compliant and that he forcefully resisted arrest. He had also been tased twice in the process and prior to lethal force being applied.

While the circumstances ended up being different when comparing Hayes and Blake, the police are going to treat any DV call with caution and a heightened sense of awareness to the situation as it develops.

then the cops should call for backup and use their resources instead of acting like macho pussies who are afraid of the unknown.

Clearly you have a bias against law enforcement. That much is plainly evident in your vitriolic posts. Why this thread hasn't yet been locked despite several mods participating in it is astounding.

And when a scared woman calls for the police to help her after accusing a 6’11 man of assaulting her, police in America take that seriously. The accused doesn’t get to dictate the scene. He doesn’t get to roam around freely and walk back into the house where the accused victim is. It might be different where you’re from, but Americans don’t accept domestic violence, especially against women.

Huge jump in logic their bud. My best friend is a constable in canada and trust me, he'd shake his head if he saw that crap.

i have a bias against police officers instigating violence when they lack the critical thinking skills, patience and communication skills to handle a situation.

if you think they handled it well, i suspect you suffer from the same affliction.

perhaps go youtube how cops in europe and canada operate, it'll be eye-opening to you just how far being humble and actually caring about your fellow man can go in situations like this.

"oh no hes big and scary so lets show how not intimidated we are". thats what those moron cops did.

seriously man, go google how police outside of america operate in the western world. Your cops are seriously under trained and lack the education to do their jobs effectively.

OMG a woman got scared, now violence is justified.

shaking my head.

how dare he turn his back on the cops and tell them to get lost -- boo hoo.

cops should use their resources and critical thinking skills.

What you have is a lack of logical reasoning and critical thinking skills as evidenced by your repeated fallacies to try and support your claims. There was no instigation of violence here by the cops; on the contrary, it began with Hayes. Could both parties handled it differently? Sure. Could Hayes have avoided creating a situation where the police were called? Absolutely. The issue was handled poorly by both parties, but it begins and ends with Hayes.

Burden of Proof fallacy on the cops from other nations. That's on you to provide, not me to go look up to support your claim. Anecdotal evidence doesn't count for anything either... bud. Try again.

are you bloody daft?

they did nothing but escalate and try to physically restrain and control him and continually put there hands on him with greater force and aggression all because he was walking in a 3 foot circle on his porch.

jaw dropped by your rambling nonsense.

I hate when people compare American police to police in the Western world. You are comparing apples and oranges. It's a completely different dynamic. America has a massive gun problem. Due to the 2nd amendment and the number of guns in American streets the issues that American cops face are completely different from the challenges faced by police in other Western countries. There are some countries in the western world where regular beat cops don't even carry guns because guns attacks are so rare. There are very few cities in Europe that are like Chicago, New York City, and Baltimore where gun attacks are a normal thing.

I'm not saying that police can't behavior better or don't need better training but this is not a black and white issue, it's a nauanced conversation.

One time I was in Florida arguing with my wife (then girlfriend) agitatedly on the street. At one point I was holding my wife's arm (not pulling or grabbing aggressively just trying to hold) as she was turning away from me. I wanted her to turn back so at the right moment I was getting ready to say sorry. I guess some bystander called the police, 3 policemen came over and one of them shoved me to the ground almost UFC style. My first reaction at that time wasn't "dude why are you using excessive force I know my right blah blah blah", I just told them "it's my bad, and I am calm". My wife then explained to them it was nothing serious and thanked them for coming. The police asked me to call a cab to send my wife back to the hotel and I drive back separately, which we both complied. No paperwork, no handcuffs, no nothing. The incident got diffused in 20 minutes. It's also my first and only one taste so far with the police to know not to mess with them.

In Jaxon Haye's case, even if his arm got broken and he was out for a couple of months, I think he is still the one to blame. No one asked him to get physical with the police, in any circumstances. To whoever saying the police did it out of ego, well maybe that's true and maybe not, maybe they are power tripping, idk - but remember they were dealing a with 6'11 220lb athlete. When a beast seems out of control, as police you do whatever to get it back under control because this is their first priority in that particular moment.

Best thing to do in such situation is:
1) stay calm
2) don't resist
3) worst case scenario if you got a bad cop who is power tripping, sorry it's just **** luck, and everyone gets **** luck once a while; still you do the same thing, stay calm and don't resist because whatever you do the matter is only getting worse. Record if possible, and sue them later.
