Post#1 » by srhcan » Wed Jan 26, 2022 3:40 am

Who is better between Jaylen Brown and Pascal Siakam?

    Both were drafted in 2016.
Brown was drafted at #3 while Siakam was drafted at #27.
Brown is 2 years younger than Siakam.
    Siakam has better FG%.
    Siakam has better 2P%.
    Brown has better 3P%.
    Brown has better Effective FG%.
    Siakam has better FT%.
Siakam is better rebounder (offensive, defensive and total).
    Siakam has better assists.
    Both have same steals.
    Siakam has better blocks.
    Siakam has less turnovers.
    Brown commits less fouls.
Brown has better pts per game.

Who would you select for your team if given the choice?

Full disclosure, I am raps fan, right now it's Pascal but before the start of the year it was Brown. Overall, both great just depends what you need for your team.

just to clarify, jalen brown has been 2nd banana his entire career.

pascal has been the #1 option the last 3 seasons. so they have different roles.

we saw a 2nd option pascal win a chip tho.

Who is this Jalen Brown?

You mean Jaylen Brown, all star shooting guard for the Boston Celtics?

I don't know if this is fair to Pascal, but Brown did outplay him in that series a few years ago while also guarding him. I don't expect it will significantly impact who takes who, but I can't ignore it as nothing. It might not translate over the season, but I feel Brown's versatility does show up in the playoffs.

I say Pascal. Being bigger matters in this league and he has 3 inches on Brown.

I fairness to Pascal, "bubble Pascal" is a thing, he literally didn't touch a basketball for 3 months heading into the bubble... He looked terrible, and his game was completely out of rhythm.

With that said, I'd be happy with either guy.

I think it’s relatively close, Jaylen a better scorer for sure, but Siakam better at everything else.

The answer would depend on the team roster that I'm building. If I needed a bit more of an offensive boost or even a temporary #1 option until I can find a better alpha, then it's Brown.

If offensive weapons are already slotted or at least your alpha scorer is accounted for, then Siakam. That length on defense cannot be taught and his overall 2-way game is strong. We've already seen him flourish when there is a clearly defined alpha on the roster with him. Same type of frame as Jerami Grant with much more to offer on offense.

Don't think you can go wrong adding either one, though.

both great and similar players at different positions. I personally take Siakam but its close. when both players are at their absolute best, Siakam is closer to a star player than Brown IMO

Jaylen Brown is 25 and Siakam is 27. Jaylen Brown is hands-down better than Siakam. If Brown was on the Raptors he would average 30 a game. Tatum takes a lot of shots and Brown still gets him 24 a game on 46% / 36% 3PT / 77 FT.

Siakam's season stats are dragged down by an awful start after missing training camp, preseason, and the first few regular season games recovering from a shoulder surgery over the summer.

Over the past 21 games, he's averaging 23/9/6 on on 55% TS. Raps are 13-8 in that stretch.

I think his jump in playmaking has separated him from Jaylen Brown at this point

You forgot Jaylen being a far better defender. Brown destroyed him in their playoff matchup. It's close, but Jaylen's 2 years younger and the better 2 way player. You put Brown on the Raptors and he's a top ten scorer eg 27-30 ppg.

Brown's also missed 40%+ of the season with covid and then a hamstring issue.
Tatum+Brown are currently the best scoring duo in the NBA but they've played only 50% of the schedule together due to both having covid and injuries earlier this year.
They've also won 8 of their last 10.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

i think siakam's flexibility to guard 1 through 5 gives him the edge.

You put brown on the raptors and nobody touches the ball. Siakam’s playmaking has been on another level this year.

If brown and Tatum are so good then why do they always underperform as a team? They’ve practically got the same record as a raptors team who have no bench and only have about 5 or 6 legit nba players. They get theirs but they impact the entire team negatively with their selfishness.

Brown scores 24 a night on 19 shots. Siakam scores 21 a night on 17.0 shots. There is not as much difference here as you would think.

Siakam blows him away as a playmaker however. 5 vs 3 assists per game, and Siakam has recently been moved into more of a point-forward role since the new year (6 assists per game), and just had his 3rd 10+ assist game tonight in the last 10 days.

Jaylen's a far better defender? Nah.

Provide stats to back up your statement. One playoff matchup that you watched does not make him the 'far better defender'.

Pascal is a much better overall player now, just like Jaylen is not the same player he was a few years ago,
