What position would they even be targeting?Asif16 wrote:Michael Grange (Toronto Beat Reporter)......says the Raptors are actively using the Dragic + 1st combo package to see the best possible player available they can get back in the trade.
Also mentions that Malachi Flynn is also available to be included for better offers. Future picks of all kind as well.
Whats out there?

Center and guard are pretty big needs I would say. Their best center is Siakam who isn't a center and neither Birch nor Precious are the answer and they have 2 guards they actually trust and then maybe kinda a 3rd guy when he's available. They've done the hard job of hoarding big 2-way forwards that most teams are dying to have and they have 3 really good ones.

Dallas already needing shooting and now THJ broke his foot. I thought they were pretty unlikely to actually do anything at the deadline, but now I think adding a veteran shooter might be something they do if one pops free for cheap.

Think we start hearing some real Beal for Simmons noise, or maybe 3 team noise or something. Tonight could have been the breaking point. Also with Beal expiring could be at least a hedge against opening space for Harden if it really all went wrong and didn’t work

Could be out for 2-4 months it seems. Eric Gordon would look good in his role

More Tatum gushing over how much he loves to play with Robert Williams, supporting my theory that a Celtics leadership that obviously wants to keep Tatum happy is VERY unlikely to trade Timelord.

As a Knicks fan I would to get rid of Julius “Contract Year” Randle. The other day the local ABC news made a poll and 75% of people who voted wanted him to be traded. lol

If NYK would consider something like that, Westbrook would be a Knick and NYK would have LAL’s l 2027 first
Which I really think Russ should be in New York anyways but yeah.

I just don't think this is fair or really related to how trades actually go down.
As an example, last year the trade deadline was March 25th. From Feb 6th to March 17th, it looks like we had 0 trades. And even getting Svi/Diallo type trades 8 days in advance of the deadline feels a bit outlier, often even the small ones wait to see what everyone's last and best and final offer is.
At the very least, I would have blamed Simmons.
The idea that Grant is holding up deals just seems silly to me.
You don't think his demands is not holding up a trade that can give a playoff team a push.

I don’t. A trade wouldn’t be happening for another 10 days either way. And players always want to get paid, this isn’t new.

Ive been saying this for a couple weeks. Beal is the perfect target for Philly because he makes them an instant title contender this year while giving a ton of flexibility/safeguard with a potential Harden FA signing.

Doesn't have to be a pure point, but definitely guard scoring off the bench or at least some shooting. Bench production has been a huge issue all year.
Siakam's role is really interesting. With Fred out last night, he started at PG and he's been the back-up PG for about a month now. He's been really good at it (24 PTS, 7 AST, 9 REB on 50% FG and 38% 3FG over the last 15 games). I think they can get away without a traditional back-up PG for that reason. Someone more in the secondary playmaker and scorer role would be great.

Yeah I'd say the Raptors target list for a scoring-ish guard is something like:
-LeVert
-Harris
-Gordon
-Ross
-Clarkson
-Dinwiddie
-Burks
-Beasley (maybe?)
Fairly deep in options, many of which are in range of a Dragic/protected 1st/Flynn package. Maybe some names on this list are more 2 2nds than the 1st.

Yep if Beal really did walk or it just didn’t work they are literally a Tobias dump away from Max cap space

If we can flip Dragic ++ for almost any of those names, that would be a win.

To get a bit finer on that group, I'd sub-categorize them as:
Might want more immediate impact players than just salary relief and a pick:
-Beasley
-Clarkson
-Dinwiddie
Might want more future value, don't care about salary relief as much
-Gordon
-Harris
-LeVert
Might not require a 1st but do want something tangible and salary relief
-Burks
-Ross
