Like all the stars in non-major markets, he suffers through this constantly. I’m sure you’ve seen him laugh it off, but often he gets angry.

For example, here are just some from the last year:

And

The problem is, the aggregators look for anything that can be misinterpreted to get their readers to dream KAT would join their team.

I have seen all of these, but they don’t come with any kind of contractual obligation not to leave. What if we don’t extend Dlo, or he gets engaged to his GF and she wants to live on the west coast and pursue reality tv again. KG has talked about being glad he left, and if we don’t accomplish anything significant in the next 3 years we will be even less accomplished then the KG wolves. I don’t think we can take it for granted that KAT will stay just because he says he wants to with multiple years on his deal.

Is there literally anything KAT could say that would convince you, or do you have an opinion that can’t be disproved?

You’re asking a good question. It is hard to think of a specific statement that KAT could make today that would convince me he won’t change his mind in a year. There are too many variables. It is not like I am claiming his comments are fake news, it’s more like I have a healthy distrust of professional athletes.

Let me ask you, if KAT got hurt and tonight and we missed the playoffs, do you believe that would change KAT’s mind? Or if he girlfriend announced that she wants KAT to move to California after his contract with the Wolves ends, would that change your mind?

Absent some sort of financial commitment that ties him here I do not believe we can count on KAT’s unconditional loyalty. I think that is true of anyone in any sport. Do you honestly disagree?

Hard to know how much of the reported trade "news" is real but with what we are being told I wonder how much the Play In Tournament is inflating trade values.

With more teams feeling they have a chance at the play offs wanting to potentially buy and less teams feeling they are out of the running and wanting to sell , it seems like the price being asked for the few okay but not great players is massively inflated from what it would have been for similar level players in the past.

I think that was one of the intended impacts and overall good for the league imo. I think more teams actually treating the regular season matters improves the level of play.

Saw this on the trade board. Like it?

Josh Okogie and 2022 Minnesota Timberwolves Second Round Draft Pick for Paul Millsap and Nic Claxton
-Nets add a great wing defender and a draft pick while creating a roster spot.
-T'Wolves just take the value and can deal with adjusting the roster in the off-season.

Nets won't give up Claxton for Okogie.

I'd do Okogie+McLaughlin for Carter+Millsap though. Get someone who can pretend to be Bev a little and a vet big.

My trade offer for Collins

Wolves in: John Collins
Wolves out: Taurean Prince, Jake Layman, Naz Reid, top 10 protected 2022 first round pick.

Why for us. Collins adds rebounding, distance shooting, and if he doesn’t fit well we can move him again in the offseason and get good value.

Why for ATL. Young promising player and a first is the going rate for players like Collins. With Collins gone Okongwu will likely slide to the PF and ATL will need a backup C. Naz is cheap, replaces some of the shooting they lose in Collins, and is only 22. Also Prince and Layman are expiring.

Edit to add, I only do this if I have a second move to bring in another backup C. I wouldn’t make Knight backup C.

One other idea.

Wolves out: Malik Beasley, Jordan McLaughlin, and Leo Bolmaro.
Wolves in: Evan Fournier, and Obi Toppin

Why for Knicks: Knicks get salary relief from Beasley, add a little more PG depth for when either Rose or Walker is hurt, and get a young player known for his defense. Also worth noting that Beasley and Fournier are very similar players but Beasley’s contract is around 3 million less this year and around 2.6 less next year. Also both have team options in their final year, but Fournier contract is one year longer.

Why we do it: Toppin fits a need better than Leo. It is essentially a young for young swap but we get the player who has shown more and fits better into our rotation. We can sign Wright to replace JMAC which frees up another two way slot, or we can convert Knight and try to get the Knicks to add Jericho Sims. Either way with Nowell and Wright JMAC is redundant. Finally Fournier is a better version of Beasley. He is expensive and we could hopefully move him next season, but even if we cannot he is shooting 38.9 percent from 3 and we could really use that.

Makes them Luxury tax payers which seems unlikely for a deal like this

True, assuming we don’t make other deals as well. Also, I read somewhere (would need to do a Google search to find it,) that Glen would be willing to go into the tax if it meant getting the 4 seed. While I am not sure this move gets us there, it definitely helps.

It would cost about $14m to make that trade , I can't see anyone thinking it moves the needle enough to do that

What about Beasley in Cleveland? I could see him as a good fit there. He could start next to Garland and Allen and Mobley could clean up Beasley's misses on defense. Cleveland wants a shooter, but Heild and LeVert both will cost draft picks, while Beasley won't.

Sac out - Barnes, Len, Woodard
Sac in - Rubio, Prince, Ried, Minnesota 2022 top-10 protected first

Cleveland in: Beasley, Harkless
Cleveland out: Rubio

Minnesota out: Beasley, Prince, Ried, FRP
Minnesota in: Barnes, Len, Woodard

Minnesota gets a veteran PF with playoff experience. Rubio can go to Sac and do for Fox when he's done for Garland, Mitchell, Booker and Edwards. Cleveland gets their shooter and Beasley is solid as a starter. Cleveland can start Garland, Beasley, Okoro, Mobley and Allen. The Timberwolves also save 4 million.

It looks like Okogie has fallen out of rotation.

MIN: Kenrich Williams, Paul Millsap
OKC: Jevon Carter, two 2nds
BRO: Okogie

Towns/Reid + Knight
Vando/Millsap/Prince
Edwards/MCD/Willams
Beverley/Beasley/Bolmaro
DLo/Nowell + Wright

The rotation is pretty much set and squared away right now, right?
D’Lo/Nowell
Bev/Beas
Ant/McDaniels
Vando/Prince/JO
KAT/Naz

The biggest spots to upgrade are guys that should be way better than they are now in Beas, Prince (who has been improved as of late), and Naz.

They’re in a weird spot where they could reasonably stand pat and get what they need from those 3 waking up. They could also say screw it and make a lateral move to find that extra piece they’ve needed. Beasley is the most expendable of all as he has future money on his deal and Nowell could reasonably play sixth man minutes. That being said, who would want Beas (the market for shooting wings is rich with Ross+Gordon being on the market too) and finding a useful piece for him could be tough unless picks are added.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Two guys that would make a lot of sense for Minnesota to pursue are Marcus Smart and Myles Turner. Both guys seem to potentially be available and might be in the Wolves price range.

Possible Deals:

MIN out: Beasley/2024 MIN 1st (top 4 protected)
BOS out: Smart

MIN out: Prince (could be routed to a third team for a minor asset)/Layman/Reid/2022 MIN 1st/2022 MIN 2nd
IND out: Turner/Sykes

I’ve been thinking what we need is a Vando upgrade. I’m wondering if I’m wrong. Maybe the other forward position is what needs improving. A versatile, long SF that can space, finish, and play D. Essentially what we hoped McDaniels would be this year. I know Pat Bev is out, but Prince shouldn’t be playing crunch time minutes for us.

Would our 2022 first, McDaniels, Beasley, and filler be enough for Jerami Grant? Money becomes an issue because he wants a big extension, but if we were willing to fit in Simmons, you’d think we could fit in Grant. Is he worth assets and that money? Not sure.

I think that's the best 76ers can get for Simmons. They should take the deal.
