The Nets keep winning games in the regular season despite being a “disappointment”. They likely finish with a high seed yet again. This is despite an unproven coach, shallow roster, and a ton of injuries. It’s disappointing if they never make a finals (or even am ECFs), but calling them historically disappointing is insulting to what they’ve accomplish despite the issues.

Maybe the last time the Nets tried to build a super team with Williams, Pierce and KG… but that team was so over the hill before they got together, this team has their top 3 guys all in their prime and it’s just a nothing but mediocre effort after mediocre effort
if they win a ring,,,,, no. it merely understates the underwhelming state of the game where a team can play half@$$ed and out of sorts to prove you can win during the sloppiest of seasons

Normally they would still be the clear favourite to win it all, except they have a low chance of having all their players when it matters the most. Too weak, either mentally or physically

They've probably played about 2 weeks worth of games together in their 2 seasons. Somehow though it was only bad luck that prevented all three being healthy at the same time for 2 straight months worth of playoffs.

I mean, the nets are still balling, they just miss the piece that clearly sets them apart from most teams. They just cant get all 3 of them on the court.
The 04 Lakers might be in contention aswell. Kobe and Shaq with Malone and Payton was supposed to be great too. They just lost in the finals to the ultimate underdog.
i might even throw in the 2011 Heat, but only for that season, for obvious reasons, but at least theyve redeemed themselves the following seasons.

West/Baylor/Wilt never won a championship together, although I presume Baylor was given a ring when his retirement triggered the Lakers' ascendance.
Low-end HoFer Gail Goodrich was on that squad too, at some point(s).

Only disappointing in the sense that they've dealt with so many injuries and the Kyrie situation. It's hard not to see them winning it all last season if Kyrie and Harden were healthy.
The Lakers really have this covered, whether it's the 2012 Nash/Dwight/Kobe /Gasol/Artest/Jamison team or the 2003 Shaq/Kobe/Malone/Payton version. I know Malone was 40, but he was 1 year removed from averaging 20pts, 8 rebs, 5 assists and 2 steals (rounding up) and he still played in 4 of the 5 finals games

I'm not sure how people are mentioning teams that actually made it to the NBA Finals when this squad burned through 3 coaches in three weeks, ended up tied with the 8th seed in the regular season, and literally got SWEPT in the first round of the playoffs.

The 2011 Heat. Or the 72 Lakers.
At least Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant were injured on the 2004/2013 Lakers respectively.
The Nets are dealing with injuries

Disappointing, injured super teams tend to always involve Brooklyn, LA, and/or Steve Nash.

Re: Are the Nets the most disappointing “super team” ever?
SMH at people saying the Heatles were a disappointment. 4 straight finals, and 2 chips. It’s like the thread saying LeBron in LAL has been a dud - despite winning a ring in 2020.
The oft mentioned Lakers teams were both disappointing, but both also had injuries to deal with (Malone & Nash specifically).
I don’t see this Nets team as a disappointment. Those who aren’t uninformed casuals would have been able to see the risk associated with this group: KD coming off a big injury & not knowing how he’ll recover, Kyrie always being a wildcard on & off the court, Harden not having a history of sharing the spotlight well with other superstars.
If they can stay on court for an extended run, including a full PO run, and still come up short, then I’ll be disappointed. Until then it’s just a glass-half-full version of their potential.

Re: Are the Nets the most disappointing “super team” ever?
I think so. I mean other super teams listed don't really have the credentials this one does.
Durant - Clearly the #1 option of all players on team USA. Noone argued. Former MVP
Harden - 2018 MVP who hadn't regressed when the Nets got him.
Kyrie - LeBrons sidekick to beat the Warriors when they had KD.
This is the best big 3 ever. Period.
I think they just messed up coaching and underestimated the need for some defensive stoppers. Like do you really need Joe Harris? Or would you be better off with someone like Thybuille?
They've had some bad luck too. But really this is the best big 3 ever. It's not even close.

Do people still GAF about the regular season?
They were better than the Bucks even with the injuries. They should have beaten them.
The regular season isn’t that important and there’s definitely teams that take the regular season easy, but this team plays with zero chemistry. I’ve watched them a couple times now and there is absolutely no team play.
It was KD, Harden on 1 leg, and role players. That's not better than the Bucks...as was proven when the Bucks beat them in 7.
At full strength, the Nets were clearly a level above the rest of the league last year. They were just never at full strength.
