Zone with a blitz kills the Knicks every time. I don't know why every team doesn't do it.

I feel like "back in the day" when the scouting report got out on a team, other teams adopted it.
Now, less so. Maybe they attempt to and aren't good at it, but I feel like teams used to try harder scheming at defense at succeeding at it. It's probably the same and just adjusted for rule changes and pace that encourage offense.

On that note, here's some interesting tidbits about zone defenses...

Tips for Beating a Zone Defense in Basketball

The three main options are; catch and shoot (if open and a good shooter), drive the ball (either to score or to kick), or pass (which is usually the most common option). The longer a player holds the ball, the more time the defense has to recover. So the ball must be moving from player to player with purpose.

Those 3 bold things are what the Knicks lack the most from a talent standpoint.

They don't have consistent catch and shoot players (Derrick Rose is their best and most consistent guy and he's been injured most of the season and even then he should not be their best catch and shoot player). The guy that normally is tasked to drive the ball (dish or create) is a PG and the Knicks starting PG for the majority of games is a career backup wing. Pass? Yeah the Knicks kinda pass the ball around back and forth and go through the motions (I guess) but they really don't have any creative passers either.

That's why the only teams they seem to be able to beat are teams that are slow and old that can't execute zones effectively as a result and/or when one or more of their inconsistent 'catch and shoot' guys get super hot.

spoelstra and riley are just incredible.

If Riley had stayed here we might have been that....

I, for one, am excited by the prospect of Taj Gibson playing 48 minutes at center

Refs are going to get involved and foul out whoever the Knicks start as well.

Nerlens was listed as questionable the last couple games too but still played. I think he’s just permanently listed as questionable at this point.

Very apropos, as he was the most questionable FA signing of the offseason.

Not that we need to throw another body into the mix but someone like Arch would actually be good for the starters to organize, move the ball, hustle, play solid D, etc. Our new Frank!

Stuck with Randle, what would be better, benching Fournier permanently so Grimes can start and Reddish off the bench, or Kemba benched with IQ starting

Is the lineup we should go for. Grimes was a PG in high school and in Kansas

I love how people throw around this idea of trading Randle for expiring contracts, as if Randle has any value..if Randle was a free agent right now, not 1 team would pay him his contract..none zero, nada..so who exactly is trading away valuable expiring so pay Randle for the next several years...The only way to trade Randle which is extremely unlikely is to either attach something very valuable, a high draft pick, or a young controllable asset..which knicks have a few..to get in return an equal or worse contract for a player that is in a similar boat as Randle..

Seriously though, hard to watch the Kemba/Fournier backcourt. We do need more defense in the starting lineup. Grimes should start but wont happen.
