Re: Jalyen Brown vs Pascal Siakam
Tatum has been significantly better than Siakam/Jaylen with both raw and advanced stats the last three seasons. I’ll post the advanced stats for the last three years if needed.
With impact stats the last three years, Jaylen has been good, Siakam has been very good, and Tatum has been elite.

Re: Jalyen Brown vs Pascal Siakam
Interesting comparison. I'd say Jaylen's probably more 'talented", where as Siakam is more impactful.
I think the Celtics would improve if Siakam replaces Jaylen on that roster.

Jaylen's impact isn't showing up in W's, even though his numbers are good.
That kind of sums it up for me.

I dont like Tatum name popping up in this thread. This thread is strictly about Brown and Siakam. Please do not pollute it with Tatum. Please only post Brown and Siakam's advanced stats. TIA

Hey man, it was a raptors fan who brought Tatum into it lol, as far as comparisons.
I think Siakam and Jaylen are similar level players, Siakam definitely better all around though. I love watching Pascal, have nothing negative to say about him.

dude takes 19 shots a game already - what are you smoking? that is basically near league leader already. Brown and Tatum don't play together all the time either. he might average maybe 26 per game but 30 - nah.
hands down? Jaylen Brown won't even be an all star this year.
raf1995 wrote:I just don’t think he has that kind of potential. I think we will regret not trading him for a haul in a few years when he’s a mid-tier starter with nice playmaking and defense and a shaky jumper.

Sorry it was not meant only for you. Please post advanced stats of Brown and Siakam.
Btw some mod try to fix the Brown's first name in the thread title but has botched it and now it appears "Jalyen" instead of "Jaylen".

Siakam is much better than Jaylen with advanced stats, but here are their numbers below. The first spoiler will be Siakam, second will be Jaylen, starting with this season.

Re: Jalyen Brown vs Pascal Siakam
Jaylen absolutely bodied Siakam in the playoffs a few years ago, it was hard to watch as a raps fan. Considering they're putting up similar numbers and Brown is younger, that should put JB comfortably above Siakam.

If I need one of these guys to get me a bucket in the clutch, I’ll go with Brown, but Siakam’s playmaking ability is lightyears ahead of Brown’s, he’s a much better rebounder, and I think as defenders go they are roughly equivalent, except that Siakam can guard 5s and Brown can’t.
Brown can guard 1-4. Let’s not forget when he shut down siakam in their playoffs series in 2020.
I don’t put much stock in the bubble. Some guys were just plain bad, and Siakam probably the worst drop off. He was terrible in both the seeding games and the first round IIRC. Middleton was also inexplicably bad but I don’t think anyone accepts that as a representative run for him.
Siakam compared to Brown in my mind:
= Defender, + versatility on that end
++ Playmaker
+ Rebounder
- much worse 3 point shooter
As far as building a team goes, Siakam is just likely to be a much better fit with most other players. Brown scores and defends but he doesn’t appear to elevate the players around him.
Maybe Siakam regresses in his playmaking ability, but he was already showing this capability last year and he looks even better at it this year. He’s pretty easily one of the best point forwards in the league right now whereas I doubt Brown will ever be described as a point forward. All things remaining equal and assuming both players continue at the level they’re currently at, I just don’t see how anyone could justify taking the clearly less impactful Brown when constructing a team.
Maybe it’s a stylistic preference, but I prefer players who are a threat to break down defenses and make the right pass when doubled, rather than players who will chuck with 4 hands in their face because they don’t have any other options. I think Brown is a very good player, he’s like a much better Ingram who can actually defend. But like Ingram, I just don’t see him as a highly impactful player. He may yet prove me wrong though.

Oh, and for Boston fans discounting the importance of playmaking, I’d like to remind you that your team has stunk since you lost Hayward and I don’t think that’s a coincidence at all.

I mean if we’re going down that route… has brown’s impact ever led to winning? We know Pascal put up 30 on draymond’s head in an nba finals and won a chip. As a raps fan, you should focus more on that rather than Jaylen bodying a Siakam who was a shadow of himself in the bubble (Brooklyn scrubs were locking him up that year FYI)

I take JB. He is a better creator and I think could thrive as a number one option.
I don’t think either are good enough #1 options on good teams, just that JB hasn’t been given the opportunity

I mean, we've finished second overall with him as our first(53W). He's been injured to start this year.

Tatum is better than both Siakam and Brown. Siakam and Brown are different players and it's a coin flip. As is often goes around here, it feels like people are arguing just for the sake of the argument. Reminder that "winning" an argument on RGM does not in fact make your preferred plater better in real life.
I think I mostly agree with you, currently Tatum > Siakam = Brown, although style and context still matter, and I'd take Siakam over Brown mainly due to play-making
I'd also argue that most players peak in their 6th through 10th seasons, and the best still improve their game during that span, barring setbacks due to random injuries affecting progression -- so I don't think any of Siakam, Tatum or Brown has peaked.
re: tweet above. Just a caution on taking small sample sizes. The Raptors best starting line-up FVV-Trent-OG-PS-SB has still only played 9 (?) games together, including a few where at least one of them was coming off injury/surgery and was on minutes restriction. Not sure when the tweet was made, but I don't think Toronto's starters met the 150 minutes minimum until late last week . . . and they are visibly improving as a group each game.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

? Better creator? You sure you’ve watched Jaylen Brown play? He’s got terrible BBIQ, handle, and assist/turnover ratio. “Creator” lol

Re: Jalyen Brown vs Pascal Siakam
talent wise brown is ahead, but you can offset that with siakams height (he can get easy looks vs a lot of defenders).
the main issue is siakam has really learned how to be effective. This year vs his all nba year his game has changed a lot

I actually think a Siakam for Brown trade would benefit both teams.
Go Raps!!
