At the beginning of next season.. Wiseman wouldn't have played extended competitive basketball for 3 years.. just wow

At this point, can we get an injury exception from him and get another vet for this run? A first round pick + the exception can probably land us an expiring vet who can be in our ~9 man playoff rotation.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
Did I miss something? Last I saw they were aiming for sometime in February. Sure it's not ideal to start the season so late but he should at least get some NBA minutes to finish out the year. Also he isn't a lock to be frozen out of the playoff rotation if he can contribute down the stretch.
I think the ideal scenario is he comes back next month and looks pretty good in 10-15 mpg especially on defense. Then depending how that goes, he contributes come playoff time and has designs on a full off-season and a shot at the starting role going into year 3. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

I guess I am just trying to tamper my expectations. I had high hopes for Wiseman but the longer this goes on and with the additional surgery/clean up in December I am not sure how much we can expect from him this season. We have all seen how Klay has looked returning from his long absence and he is a veteran with championship experience. Wiseman is still going to need to work through his growing pains and I am not sure how much time the Warriors have for that this year. I hope I am wrong and that he comes back sooner than later and shows some growth but I am not holding my breath.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
Well it sucks that he's not back yet. I was hoping to see him play for 20 games before the trade deadline... just in case...
But that's not going to happen. Mid to end of February looks like the soonest he'll play...
It's really not out of the ordinary or alarming for this injury/surgery.. Just a long wait.
He's still within the average projected time frame.
But the clean up does set him back a bit.

Big men take time to develop. Why push the kid to actually play games before his third or fourth season?

Because at some point you have to pay him a sizable extension based on his draft slot and perceived tools, or let him go for a lesser asset than what you would've gotten otherwise, and you lose the roster spot in the meantime on a competing team

Yes, the Sixers obviously should have cut their losses with Embiid after his early career injury problems.

Exactly. I don't know what this kid will turn into, but the Warriors cannot make a decision on him until he's back and plays a solid 20 games. Hopefully Kerr has some tactics and doesn't play it like a high school force feeding him and him trying to do too much to break the system.
One good thing is he looks a lot bigger than usual, hoping that means he grabs more rebounds and is able to box out.

Wiseman looks like Embiid to you? Embiid stepped on the floor year 3 and dominated after never playing in an NBA game.

He really grew. The skinny arms were a tiny bit embarrassing for a pro, despite being 19.

Which he did when he was 22 with 3 years of physical development on Wiseman, and after 2 years of training with an NBA franchise.
Wiseman certainly didn’t look as though he had Embiid’s feel for the game but a number of people who know more about basketball than you or I do, including Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, are apparently high on him, so I am prepared to wait and see how he looks back on an NBA court. As others have said he looks considerably bigger and stronger which is promising; he was getting pushed around as a skinny 19 year old last season.
What I don’t understand is gleeful gloating that he is a bust by purported GSW fans.

Wiseman and Kuminga are physical freaks. Anomalies even for the NBA. Get ready for domination haters.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
I dont think anyone is gleeful gloating over Wiseman or anyone else. Making an assessment of a players prospects or a teams is why forums exist. If a teams followers choose to only look at a single side of an equation, then thats their right, but everyone doesnt assess the same.
Also, his CURRENT teammates and team leaders arent going to publicly say anything negative about their basketball colleague nor should they. He's an NBA player. He knows how to play basketball. The issue is related to if the player can be a contributor on an older championship level team at any point or is it Wiser to move on
