Trade chips to be sellers….
We have trade chips to be sellers that’s undeniable but will we get any value back or enough value back? Two stretch bigs in Kelly and Lyle, an all around versatile 3/4 in Grant, an athletic young wing in Diallo, a veteran dependable ball handler in Joseph. We even have some disposable second round picks. It’s all on what the market says these players are worth and if we see it that way as well.

Re: Trade chips to be sellers….
Diallo is just a few months older than Bey and someone I'd expect we keep on the team because we mostly lack athleticism beyond him and Saben Lee.
Grant, Olynyk and Joseph are my guys most likely to be traded, and perhaps if someone wants to give us an asset now (like a 2nd rounder) because they need shooting maybe we move McGruder again. The thing with McGruder is, he plays similar to that of Frank Jackson so if we keep McGruder in the rotation playing those minutes it likely means Frank Jackson is out of the rotation moving forward. Which would be fine we have a team option on him for next season, but I think Weaver also is a Frank fan. Lyes has been ok for us, but at a bargain $2.5 million next season I think he almost certainly stays with us. Plus he's someone that doesn't have the expectation of starting.
The big thing is, we kind of need to get ourselves down to a 10 man rotation. It feels like this might be what we're rolling with out there in a few days once everyone is healthy and back from Covid.
Stewart(24)/Kelly(24)
Grant(34)/Lyles(14)
Bey(32)/Diallo(16)
Cade(34)/McGruder(14)
CoJo(26)/Hayes(22)
11th: Josh Jackson (Unrestricted Free Agent next year)
12th: Frank Jackson (Team Option at $3.15 million next year)
13th: Saben Lee (Min Salary next year, but team option for the following year)
14th: Garza (Min Salary next year, but a team option which is likely to be picked up)
15th Livers (Min Salary next year guaranteed, but team option the following (3rd) year)
Lee, Garza, Josh Jackson and Frank Jackson out of the rotation based on how people are playing now. Diallo likely also unhappy with his reduced role. And of course we have Livers a 3 year deal, he's the 15th man currently I'm wondering if he ends up getting any playing time at all this year.
One thing certainly to consider is that we are likely going to need 3 or 4 more roster spots for next year just to add the new rookies and a free agent or two so some of these guys have to be on the move.

yeah i'd move all the players besides diallo (really depending on what we can get for him) kpt suggested and mcgruder. also i'd probably move josh jackson although i like him he and diallo are redundant i'd rather keep diallo and move josh since hes very inconsistent as a jumpshooter.

Great call with JJ and McGruder able to be outgoing pieces as well.

Re: Trade chips to be sellers….
I don't think there's any way they should deal Diallo. He's on a real bargain contract this season and next even if he regresses a bit and is young enough to be a solution going forward.
I doubt they'll look to deal Olynyk or CoJo because you need a few vets around.
I don't think Weaver WANTS TO deal Grant but with this being a hot sellers market and with so many teams calling, I think he's looking at maximizing value by at least looking at offers as I don't see his value ever being higher than it is now. Ultimately, I think Grant stays past the deadline unless Weaver gets a "blow his doors off" offer.
I could see Josh Jackson and McGruder flipped like the above poster mentioned. This recent stretch might be a bit of a showcase for McGruder to perhaps get a very late 2nd from a top contender.

I don't mind keeping any of these guys and I don't mind trading anyone if the price is right (btw the price will never be right for Cade, because it'd have to be such a massive overpay).

Re: Trade chips to be sellers….
The key for me personally, and I'll admit that it's as much just preference as rebuilding logic, is I think now is the time the team has to start thinking about putting together at least an 8 man roster that they'll roll with for the rest of this season and maybe all of next season. I don't buy into the "always upgrade if you can" logic, i.e. always be willing to change out almost any player at any time if you think there's an "upgrade" available. I personally think there's a lot to be said for giving a team time to gel and become greater than the sum of its parts; that doesn't happen overnight.

As long as we don't donate talent like we've been doing I'm fine.

One of Grant/Olynyk will be dealt IMO, but not both. Jackson and McGruder will be used as salary ballast if necessary. I could see Josh waived post TDL if Pistons need a roster spot. Lyles and Joseph could be added to Grant in a "win now" package for the acquiring team.

OT what is up with Jj? If my memory serves me two out of the last handful of games he’s got ejected correct? Disclaimer I have not watched those games but think I saw it in the box score. Is he sabotaging any possible trade out?

If I'm picking the first 8 guys that I would to roll with through this season and maybe all of next, yeah, that's not a bad start. Maybe even Lyles in KO's place and Garza in Lyle's place (relative to minutes). Joseph and Lyles have actually done a pretty damn good job of providing that veteran presence and I do think Lyles should still be in consideration for a vet bench role moving forward; he's definitely growing into a role lately.
And that's not to say that all of those guys should be considered untouchable under any circumstances other than Cade, just not being shopped.

JJ's ejection last game was righteous in the sense that someone needed to start barking at the refs; Casey certainly isn't doing it.

I think we should extend his same deal two more years, I mean Darvin Ham was the 12th man on the going to work teams; scott Hastings, John long, if he really loves playing for Detroit, he’s a top tier 12 man now; what if he puts it together at 27?

Also a big Josh fan --- Love how he is weirdly good at blocking shots, and always does it with so much swagger. No fear on offense (to a fault), but this team needs more irrational confidence guys.
He's just extremely hot and cold, and makes a few dumb decisions once in a while...Still under 25, and he is Detroit family, therefore HE STAYS.
Very curious what Lyles can fetch us right now...not expecting a ton, but whatever it is, I'll take it.

I feel like I’ve exhausted interest in potential trades. Only actual trades will interest me now. If there are any.

Re: Trade chips to be sellers….
As we’ve discussed several times on here the vast majority of all trades that actually happened come out of the blue and aren’t from the rumor mill. And although very entertaining and time wasting the proposed trades on trade machine and discussed here are 99% fantasy. I have hit my point of frustration on this trade season yet will continue to waste time on it as well. They’ve (media) caught me in their labyrinth.
