Re: Miami Heat Regular Season Thread 21-22 Vol. 2 - Can we get to first place?
Curious if the Heat and Hornets can get together on a trade. Would love to see if we could land PJ Washington. Loved him as a fit here coming out of the draft. Seems to be out of place in Charlotte with Bridges as the primary 4 and Borrego forcing him to play as a small ball 5. Washington would be a great fit here with him getting to learn behind Tucker and his close relationships with Bam and Herro. Also makes for an ideal 4 that can play with Bam. Would Hornets have any interest in a package that looks like this?
C Omer Yurtseven
PF Markieff Morris
SF KZ Okpala
2024 1st round pick(unprotected)
to Hornets for
PF PJ Washinton
C Vernon Carey Jr.
My thoughts on why it makes sense for the Hornets is they are looking to move on from Washington and will likely want a big and a first round pick in return. They currently are running Plumlee at Center but adding Yurtseven into the rotation gives them a more traditional cost controlled backup to Plumlee with the chance to overtake him as the starter. KZ is a young throw in player and Markieff gives them a veteran at the backup 4 spot. Of course what makes the deal really worthwhile for the Hornets is securing the 2024 unprotected 1st round pick.

If this wins us a championship, great, I'm all for it.
If not, this is probably the most absurd thing that's ever happened in the NBA. Just imagine telling someone that you're going to build around Duncan Robinson.“You can’t quantify [Adebayo’s impact]. You see the comfort level of Duncan skyrocket because you know, Bam knows how to get him open. The synergy between the two of them, they’re just so connected. Sometimes, there’s just an energy to that.”
Duncan has as a pretty large time allotment dedicated to him per game. They run alot of plays for his 16 ppg or whatever it is he averages when he is functional.
Every once in a while you find yourself saying Damn that was a normal catch and shoot :O), like with most 3 point shooters.
I guess it is what it is, at least sometimes it pulls the big out of the paint for Jimmy.
I am on the Wood bandwagon, but I will say this... Check out Collins shot chart... Collins would fit in like a GLOVE, if he ended up on Miami. They could run the DHO game with Strus or Herro and Collins, the pitch backs would be in Collins sweet spot from 3. Defenders would pay dearly for switching on that.

Dragic was seen in the stands during the Clippers game. I wish there was a simple and cheap way to get him back.

He's either getting traded or bought out. If he gets bought out by Raptors we can't sign him till next season. He'll probably head to Dallas if that happens. If he gets traded to another team then gets bought out, then we can sign him in a min deal. It would be great to have him back for a playoff and maybe win a ring if we get to the finals. He would deserve it. He didn't start his career but he proved he's a lifer in the finals. He shouldn't have played with that injury.

I like PJ's fit here, but if we're giving up a FRP i'd aim for bigger fish.
He's not proven enough to have so much more value them Omer imo.
Id offer Strus OR omer + KZ + cash or a distant future SRP

Agreed That would be the best case scenario. Just have a hard time envisioning that until he becomes a free agent in the distant future.
I'm thinking after Butler and if he's the guy, I cannot imagine Miami not getting him. I ilke SGA too, but Donovan Mitchell fits like a glove.
Just gotta be patient, I have a very good feeling about this one. It’ll happen via trade after Mitchell asks out in the next year or 2 imo

Collins just makes too much money to make a trade that would make sense though right? Think he makes in the $20Ms

Half court offense still looks like our Achilles heel.
Bam's scoring has not looked improved enough, which worries me because Lowry's scoring has taken a step back.
Really looking like we'll need Dipo's offensive creation against playoff defenses.
Cant wait to see him getting playing time.

Still got another 20ish regular season games to work on our deficiencies. If Yurt was getting Dedmons minutes I think our half court execution would improve.

I doubt a distant SRP gets anything done. Maybe look at something similar to the Cam Reddish deal with the Knicks. Think they got a first with top 14 protections with Knox and Solomon Hill. I think that seems reasonable. For as good as Yurt has been with us he was taken off the street and still has no strong history. KZ well is KZ. Hornets have enough at the 2/3 so doubt Strus would be involved. Plus he’s a Jimmy fave

The difference between the Heat and other organizations is this:
Jimmy in Minny.
- While Jimmy playing one of the top seeds.
- When he is missing, they dropped in standings like a hot sack of crap through the water.
Jimmy in Miami.
- While Jimmy playing, one of the top seeds and currently 1st place
- When Jimmy is missing. Pretty much missed everyone, went from 4th place to 1st place without basically all our stars.
Some organization get it, some just don't.

Well, that happened this year for Miami, last year when Butler was out Miami looked like one of the worst teams in the league and if Butler wasn't good(like in the playoffs) this team looked bad and got swept. Also, before Butler forced his way to Miami this franchise was building around Winslow, Richardson and Bam which wasn't a great recipe for success, it was quite lucky that Miami flubbed up with Wade which pushed this franchise's best player to leave and sign in Chicago for him to befriend Butler and let him know what it wasn't nearly as soft in Miami as it was in Chicago with Hoiberg.
This franchise is a good organization, but there's some luck in it also. For example, it was unluck for the FO to be stuck in keeping max cap space available for 2021 when CP3 could have been added to this roster 1 month after Butler and yes... CP3 was very good in Houston when he didn't have to play 2nd fiddle to Harden.

Would’ve been nice to have a big expiring to throw in a trade like this to get like 2 out of 3. I like all 3 of these guys a lot.
Wish we had an inside source on what the Heat were doing and who they were talking about lol

he's not the only one, Dragic has been in Miami working and others. Next year should be a great year for Miami with that adding of a healthy Oladipo and maybe Dragic as a scorer off the bench. If those 2 are added, the FO has a chance to do a possible consolidation trade of some players who will be on their last year of their contract(who they may not be able to pay after next season) and possibly Robinson.
Dragic in Miami working out.
