Interesting that we would think that the increased anti-Semitism in the US wouldn't spill over to our universities.

If it was only in the universities - that would be a different matter, no?

Breyer finally put ego aside and is retiring. Dems may very well lose the US Senate in November. The time to go is now.

Chuck Schumer says they're going to confirm his replacement as quick as the Republicans put up Amy Coney Barrett when Ginsburg died before the 2020 election.

Ginsburg not retiring during the Obama years from 2009-2014... when the Dems had control of the US Senate just looks terrible. Dems would at minimum be able to keep the 5-4 balance.

Of course if the Dems had kept the US Senate in 2014 elections, the court would not be 6-3 in favor of the conservatives.

In the centuries long game of "tag - you're exterminated" I fully support the right of Jews to have a home base that they govern themselves in Israel. The United States is where Jews are the most safe, but that might be temporary. Lots of places have welcomed Jews for awhile and then turned against them. Only place you can really feel safe is a country that is run by Jews, even though "safe" in Israel is a relative term.

That doesn't give you the right to steal land from the people who live there. Surely there is a way besides outright theft to move in to that neighborhood.

Also, the Israeli secular government has insisted for some time that their right to reside on the land of Israel is described in the Torah, and the national boundaries of the secular nation of Israel correspond exactly to those described therein. Ok, so that means you don't have any legitimate claims on any land outside that boundary. Settlers who steal land from Palestinians outside of the boundaries of Israel described in the Torah are criminals and should be prosecuted.

As long as the secular state of Israel continues to refuse to punish criminals who illegally seize land outside of the borders of Israel, they really don't have a legitimate claim that they are innocent and are being bombarded by Palestinian terrorists simply because of anti-Semitism. It just doesn't fly. And if they refuse to engage in a good faith effort to negotiate reparations for the seizure of land from Palestinians in the 20th Century that's also a mark against that argument.

Israel is arguably our only friend in the Middle East (well, there's Morocco of course) and they shoulder a lot of the weight of anti-West sentiment in that area. They do a lot of our dirty work for us. We owe them politically, but they're not immune from criticism. Strong criticism. They are maintaining an apartheid state and they are stealing land from the politically weak. It's not ok. We can't turn a blind eye to it.

This is very well said. What's sad is that having this take apparently makes you anti-semitic to a certain group of people.

Exactly. There's nothing inconsistent with what I said and supporting the BDS movement. Just being pro-Palestine doesn't make you anti-semitic.

Also Fox News' coverage of George Soros is *wildly* antisemitic.

This is why all the hysteria about CRT needs to be called out for what it is, racist fearmongering. It’s never about children, it’s about erasing history and only teaching history through a whitewashed perspective. I hope this is a wake up call to all people that they need to call out racism and discrimination even if you aren’t in the group being targeted. You know who actually censored and burned books? Actual Nazis. Now the right wing is adopting those same practices without a hint of irony.

John McWhorter making the argument for socioeconomic affirmative action rather than race-based affirmative action. I've thought that makes sense for some time. https://nyti.ms/3IDpywG

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

"beneficiary of affirmative action" is racist code for "it's not possible for a black woman to be qualified for the SCOTUS"

It might - after we have removed the systematic racism in the country - first.

I am also good if colleges only go by grades (no SAT scores), not by ability to pay.

And using his underlying argument:

I just think affirmative action should address economic disadvantage, not race or gender.

Let's just make college free to anyone and not penalize kids for what high school they had to attend.

I heard they're making a sequel to 'Get Out.' Jesse Helms' consciousness was actually transferred into Clarence Thomas' body. Should be a good one!

Affirmative action is not a problem to people other than racist, entitled losers.

This is nothing more than a Conservative right wing scam to enforce their white identity politics and deny opportunities to those they deem unworthy. Sadly they’ve roped some Asian students into this garbage. Just like what happened when the right wing started with CRT, then moved into banning books about the Holocaust, they’ll turn on Asians too once they’re done using them.

Clearly you don't understand his argument. It has nothing to do with the ability to pay tuition.
