My wife and I just started it. On episode 6 now. We both love it. It's crazy.

We just finished it last night and are in the middle of Station Eleven. Both great shows.

Get it? Got it! Good!

Discovered the duo Kunzite recently. MGMT / Foster the People vibes. The spacey singing reminds of Tame Impala a bit. Their latest album Visuals came out in 2021. Here are my favorites but the whole album is good and worth a listen.

Saturn is my favorite track of the album ... an upbeat instrumental

These two are with the Ratatat duo

I found that show too slow for me.

Couldn't get past about episode 6 or so.
I found no character to be likeable.

I felt the same way about Breaking Bad at first. Which, Ozark is pretty similar in concept, but different and good enough to not be considered a ripoff. It's hard to like or care about the characters until you get to know them.

Like Breaking Bad though, Ozark ends up getting really good and addicting if you stick with it. Lots of twists and turns with the plot and some very gripping scenes. Good acting as well. I still don't like Wendy though haha (the wife, Laura Linney).

I feel that is the genius about it. It's impossible to like any character. Maybe in a moment, but overall, they are all bad.

My daughter posed a question to me.

Best fictional characters. Not you favorite, per say, but the best overall written/protrayed. Best most complete story.

She chose:
1) Samwise Gamgee
2) Percy Jackson
3) Princess Zelda
4) Forest Gump
5) Dean Winchester

Mine
1) Aragorn
2) Batman
3) Joker
4) Darth Vader
5) Link

I just finished watching Rome. It's fantastic, but it's a damn shame that a show about the birth of the Roman Empire would be cancelled after only 2 seasons. This deserved at least 5 seasons. It definitely laid the groundwork for shows like Game of Thrones, Vikings, Spartacus, etc. Hopefully they can bring it back sometime in the future; they can pick up right where they left off with Augustus Caesar's reign, or focus on another period of Roman history, say Aurelian's campaign to "restore the world" during the Third Century Crisis. That would be must-see TV.

It's a great short series. I read that is was just too costly to continue. They were supposed to do a feature film to finish it off, but so far nothing.

I agree that it's great, but it could've been so much more. For one, I found it annoying that they barely showed any battles (for example, there was so much buildup to the Pharsalus showdown between Caesar and Pompey, but they didn't even show the battle and just cut to the aftermath immediately, which I felt cheated out of); also, the second half of season 2 was so condensed and rushed, a lot of storylines would've benefited from being fleshed out. I actually thought the finale was lame, it just felt like the writers wanted to wrap it up without really trying to hit the emotional beats of the audience.

That said, it was still a fantastic show with great writing and acting, and the production was superb. As you said, it was simply too costly. HBO certainly learned their lesson in Game of Thrones, where they were able to make better use of the budgets in the first few seasons, then went all-out in the later ones when the show had a global following already. Maybe if Rome didn't shoot its wad right out of the gate in terms of its production budget, it would've lasted longer. There's just so much story to tell, and it's a shame that most of them got cut out.

Given how horrible the last two seasons of GoT were, I think HBO should make it up to us by giving us another Rome series. I'd be down with that.

I didn't know I missed Dexter as much as I did. The last couple of seasons were comical and it ended badly. But then all the familiar notes came rushing back with Dexter: New Blood. Unfortunately, its ending and most of its writing was abysmal and ruined it. Those writers should never be allowed near a Hollywood script ever again, it was that bad.

I tore through Mare of Easttown this week. Which, I actually watched a little bit of the first episode when it came out and it didn't grab me, but I kept hearing how good it was and gave it more of a chance this time. And it was excellent.

It's a multi-layered character-driven murder mystery. Very well written and acted and top notch all around. Lots of character exposition and there are a few points where I was thinking, "ok get to the murder mystery now." But then when they got to it was was really gripping. Recommended.
