I still can't decide if I'm excited for this game or not, maybe because I still don't understand what it is. I have absolutely no time for it in Q1 or maybe even til Summer, so not getting too hyped for it, but I will say that putting Frank Sinatra in the trailer with that last shot gave my Fallout vibes. Which it obviously isn't from the gameplay footage, but a Fallout-Final Fantasy would be fun.

I never played the first FF so it's interesting to read how this is an interpretation of that game but from the villain's perspective. Devs saying it's basically Dark Souls/Nioh in the FF universe is super appealing.

I was sure to be in no matter what because of the Nioh vibes and developer, but I'm not sure when I'll be playing. Just looked at the release schedule again, and starting in the second week of February there won't be a lack of something big to play for month.

But hell, I'm still happily in my replay of FE while installing Spelunky 2, WindJammers 2, and Rainbow Six Extraction right now.

It's seriously insane.

2/11: Lost Ark (I'll give it a shot).
2/18: Horizon: FW
2/25: Elden Ring
3/4: Project Triangle

Somewhere in there is also the first D2 patch in over 10 years, a new POE megapatch, and I'm still in C:S mode with the Airport DLC out tomorrow. This doesn't even take into account some games not really on my radar, including FF (as mentioned), Tiny Tina's Wonderland, Total Warhammer 3, and Dying Light 2. All in Q1.

What the ****.

Anyone have any experience with Medieval Dynasty? Looks like something I could get into.

Finished my FE:A run tonight after I'd acquired all the kids, some spotpass characters, and leveled my preferred party up. Little Morgan was a cheat code for the last five or so main missions. Had five of the best skills in the game, was leveled to her max. She could wipe the entire map in every battle without taking damage.

Now onto Fire Emblem: Fates! I know I completed Birthright and maybe half of Conquest. I'm pretty sure I finished or got most of the way through Revelations, but that's the one I'm gonna replay. I looked at the character list and realized I don't really remember most of them, unlike Awakening where I felt like I knew them all.

I’m so conflicted on this game. Love the art, love turn-based tactics, love good story, doubt Square Enix ability to deliver all three compellingly mixed together. Could sneak up on me as a game I have to own, but it’s currently a wait and see.

The Pokemon Legends: Arceus reviews were about what I expected. I think this is a good starting point but I'll wait until the next one comes out. Has a lot of potential it seems.

Ok now that I've processed this, quick follow-up for some context.

This is a high rune, which refers to it being among the most rare. This is also probably the second most desirable rune, next to Ber (which is actually one level of rarity below Jah, but used in a couple more popular runewords than Jah is).

I play SSF, so no trading, which makes getting these extremely rare. I have never seen one. Prior to this, the highest rune I've seen is a Sur - two runes below Jah, which I have had a couple times including one now. Beyond that, my next highest rune is like 5 or 6 runes lower.

This was not on my radar at all, but now that I have one, I am one Sur or Ber rune away from making Enigma (2x Sur = Ber, so either works), which is a runeword that lets any class teleport and basically the creme de la creme of end game items because it brings the convenience of teleport to any class. Easier to do if you like trading as you can trade any other random things you have to others and acquire wealth over time, but super hard SSF.

The chances of getting a Sur or Ber are also extremely small. But, I mean, guess I'll grind D2 now until the new POE expansion next week. Never know :D

I picked it up for my son & I today, I played for about 2 hours. Nothing exceptionally good (so far) but it will hold my attention. Bunch of grindy type fetch quests and a main quest line. Typical open world RPG stuff.

Got back into Destiny 2 after a year or so away. I spent a good hour, maybe more, last night trying to figure out why I didn't have any of the expansions I was sure I had played before. I thought maybe I had played them on the PS so I downloaded that 75 GB beast to check. I went though years of payments on both the Xbox and Playstation.

After a very long time looking it turns out those expansions were free on Game Pass and were taken off in December. I'm an idiot.

I mean, sure, but it's also just the general downfall of services like that. The games are fleeting. The worst is when you can get the base game there, but then have to purchase the expansions - ultimately why I decided to just buy Forza 5, for example. Anything I might want to come back to I don't want tied to that sort of service.

I'm really in RPG/open world mode. Hyped for the upcoming releases. Still playing D2, but I can only farm so much, especially with a few weeks of ARPGs in my future with the new POE expansion and whenever D2's new patch is out. I think I prefer my half hour daily of a few runs, save for leveling new characters. So, wanted to find something else - not new - to hold me over until insanity hits.

Decided to revisit a couple old open world RPGs. I'm really, really missing a grand high fantasy game where I can build my char however I please - so I booted up Skyrim. But I also decided to come back to Witcher 3 - obviously not for an actual playthrough, but to see what I think of it now. It never clicked with me, solely because it forces you - understandably, but not to my taste - into a certain character archetype, which is not my playstyle preference. But I know it's well crafted, great story, etc.

Neither has aged very well. Skyrim is over 10 years old now, and Witcher 3 about 7. Some quick thoughts...

Skyrim:
Absolutely awful UI. Just truly terrible usability. I can't imagine anyone liked it 10 years ago, either.
Really hard to mod because of how annoying Bethesda is with new releases. Mods are outdated to old releases. Took me honest-to-god 2 hours to even get it booted up.
Still just terrific flexibility. You can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, and make up your own story.
The combat is a little clunky now, most notably when quick changing to other weapon sets or spells or whatever, but I love how dynamic combat is.

Witcher 3:
Quests, characters, dialogue are completely next-level. As we always knew.
It controls remarkably clunky. I was surprised Skyrim, an older game, feels better than it. I did some googling for mods or any fixes, and it appears it was a common complaint even back on release. And it did not age any better.
I still hate how my preferred playstyles - magic and archery - are not really part of the story. And I get it, because it doesn't make sense given the story and character, but it was and apparently continues to deter me. I can't be a sneaky thief-archer, or a powerful sorcerer, etc.

Don't really want to replay either long-term, but I'll probably keep flipping back and forth occasionally this week.

I'm waiting for the next gen updates that are planned to replay Witcher (and maybe Cyberpunk). I was also traditionally into magic/archery in my RPGs, which may have been a barrier when I first started. I tabled it for a year or so after buying, then ended up going against my usual type and went heavy weapons/armor and had a blast.

I have decided to replay BOTW, and holy heck the 2nd time is so much easier when you do the "These things make the game easier" things first.

Also, I have come to accept that I am old and will absolutely never be good at combat in this game, so my only solution is craptons of +hearts food, shock arrows and swearing.
