Ingles injury
Worthy of it's own thread, IMO, even without any official word on how severe the injury is.
First, it looked brutal. My unprofessional opinion it, it'll be season ending.
If so, first and foremost, I feel for Joe. To me, he's the ultimate Jazzman. Fan favorite, locker room glue, great (and undervalued) player, trash-talker supreme, and the best interviewee ever! NBA player or not, I'd love to just hang out with the guy.
With all that said, and long-term health being first & foremost, this injury has a lot of impact on the team.
On the court, he's a leader and a jack of all trades. Despite not having his best season, there's nobody on the team that can replace all the things he does, so not having him certainly changes things. Sure, they can add more D &/or athleticism to the rotation (House?), but it's still not the floor leadership, passing, and attitude Joe adds.
Off the court, he can still be a locker room leader without being on the floor, but the elephant in the room is, "will Joe get traded?". A significant injury would change that option to only being able to trade him to a team looking for salary dump. A team looking to use Joe's skills this season will no longer be interested. For those thinking that trading Joe was the quick-fix for this team, things just got even more complicated.
Watching that injury made me cringe. I really hope Headband-Joe shocks us, and is back sooner than later, but I fear it's bad. He may even look at retirement if it's significant enough.
So many layers. Love Joe. Wishing him the best, no matter what happens.

Re: Ingles injury
Well our GMs totally effed us, Ingles should have been gone last summer in a trade and now he’s worth nothing and we likely will not be able to get anything of replaceable value in return.
Feel bad for Ingles because I have bad knees but our GM’s and Snyder totally **** us by not trading him.

I almost added to my post a disclaimer that I await GobertReport's Joe-hate. lol
It's possible this makes him even more apt to be traded, but limits to a salary dump. Hard to say what's available, without being an NBA GM, but there's nearly no reason I can see to not to trade his salary slot at this point.
In reality, Ingles is the team's #2 point guard. He plays that role with JC &/or DM, when Conley is out. Forrest isn't a playoff-level solution. I know 3&D-wing is the popular choice, but assuming Joe is done, now they really need a #2 PG in addition to wing length & D.

Re: Ingles injury
Really sorry for him. I think he was one of the most important players those years.
Sure he was not the Joe of last years, and the team was suffering for it, but when you expect loyalty for your players, you should give loyalty to your players.
I remember us trading Matt Harpring to OKC when he was done, and I think this is the ultimate favor to your team. Matt was not playing anymore and was working with Jazz TV.
I'm not sure if this is a carreer ending injury, but if it's you can ask him to be trade. He will be paid and can continue working with jazz.
If he want to continue playing in Utah I would give him a chance. I think it's important to the players we have to see we do the right thing and we don't see him as goods, because if they feel that way, it's easier to them to leave us.
Sure some players will leave us do whatever we do, but at least you will know it's their decision and it's not because Jazz had a bad reputation.

Re: Ingles injury
Even with Joe not shooting and defending (imo) as well this season, the Jazz still usually outscored the other teams when Joe was on the court. He's a heady player and a leader who I suspect would be a good addition to the Jazz coaching staff in the sad event this injury is career ending. He would probably make a pretty entertaining color announcer too if he wanted to go that direction.

Don't forget about Butler. Butler and Forrest are both improving.

Listen, this is a forum that has had long discussions about trading Ingles and I have been a proponent of it, I feel very bad he hurt his knee because I didn’t want to see his time with the Jazz end like this. I think the FO did a huge disservice to the team for hanging on to him this long, we are now looking at taking bad to net neutral salary if we trade him.

Re: Ingles injury
This is a sad day. Definitely one of my all time Jazz favorites. No idea if he will want to play after this season... or if it's the end... either way - tons of respect for Ingles. If he wants to try a comeback next year... I wouldn't mind a keeping him on a minimum.

This was what I think most of us suspected. I feel for Joe. Can't blame the guy if he retires at this point, but you never want to see an injury dictate "the end".
A big "What If?" that has crossed my mind (and may be wishful thinking) ... If the Jazz do end up trading his contract, and then win a title, Joe should get a ring.

Huge bummer for him, the team, everyone. This was probably his last year anyways. Hopefully, the Jazz can right the ship and win a ring for him on his way out.

Re: Ingles injury
Hate it for both him and the team. I like Ingles and hope he can heal up right. I was/am hoping you guys make a deep playoff run (until you run into Memphis of course) just to shut everyone up plus get Mike a ring. Maybe you'll be able to use his salary to trade for some help and if you win a ring you can still give him one.

Coming in peace - would you think a Bertans for Ingles straight up would be an option. Add Holiday if we could make the trade work.
I think the Wizards would do this if we decide to blow things up (the way it has been going).

No.

Re: Ingles injury
At this point I think you examine all trade options with Ingles expiring contract. I would like to see Ingles on the assistant coaches staff long term. I think he would do a good job there. But as of now get below tax level if possible or get someone who can help us win.

Re: Ingles injury
This is really too bad. I know Joe hasn't been great this year, and maybe last season, but he was still one of our better offensive floor leaders.
I think his significant playing days are over, but I'd love to have him in like a Udonis Haslem type role.
