Re: Trade Talk (Part Nine) (READ FIRST POST)
If Beverley is being discussed in trades, about the only 2 options I can see that make sense are to Philly for Simmons or to the Hawks for Collins. As far as Beasley, I really like the idea of moving him for Smart.

I hate the idea of moving Beverly. He is the most important locker room presence and vital to our defense. Literally the only reason you move him is if you believe that you cannot re-sign him (or you cannot re-sign him to a number that allows you to keep your young talent.) If that’s the case, you need a vet who is defensive minded.

I think we're just exploring all trade options and looking at value. If we could get Smart for a good deal, that makes Beverly expendable for sure. I love what he's brought to the team, but he is fairly old and he's an expiring contract who could leave for nothing.

Beverley is 33 years old and has missed around 40% of the games over the last 2.5 seasons. While he has been an incredible fit with the Wolves, I doubt he is off the table in trade talks for Simmons or Collins. I do agree that if Beverley gets moved the team would need to find someone to fill the role. The best case scenario would be the Wolves getting Smart to provide point of attack defense, and use Beverley in a package for a Simmons/Collins level big.

Marcus Smart‘s name has come up recently as a possible target for the Timberwolves, especially if they move Patrick Beverley in another deal, writes Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Weiss suggests the Celtics could probably move Smart for an expiring contract and a first-round pick right now if they wanted to, but adds that “there’s a lot more that goes into moving him beyond finding matching value.”
Weird to see steam about Beverley, who I felt is a critical part of the team’s improvement. However, before the deadline, teams often sit trade candidates, and Bev has been sitting, Jake Fischer is a decent source too. i still think it’s nothing, unless maybe they’ve talked, and the team can’t meet his extension demands?
I posted though to say that I have a fairly complex Beasley-Richardson deal in this thread from about three weeks ago, that got some good responses on the Trade Board.

I listened to the annual Mock Tradeline on Dunc’d On. Danny leRoux offered
Beasley or Prince + Bolmaro + Top 4 protected 1st for Jerami Grant.
I don’t like Grant here (I wouldn’t touch our starting line up, and I don’t think he’d be happy as a fourth option), but I was surprised how okay I was using Bolmaro instead of a future 1st.
His value may have dipped, now that he has been “driven off the lot,” but he’s young and has tools, so his beauty will vary drastically in the eyes of diff3rent beholders.

I honestly have no clue what the Celtics are going to do at the trade deadline. I just saw this rumor section about the Celtics and it had a lot of Minny stuff in there so I figured I would share with the Minny forum. Don't think the Celtics trade Smart. Celtics have been playing real well the last 12-15 games and Smart has been a big part of that. Sounds like Minny is trying to do a big trade.

Wolves need to do this. IMO i think Beasley needs a change also and will have a hot streak on his new team like when he first joined the wolves.

Coming into the 2020 draft we had #1 and #17. Once we realized we couldn’t trade down, we chose Ant. Recently it came to light that Wiseman didn’t want to be here because he was worried about being buried behind KAT. Likewise Ball didn’t want to come here either. Ant worked out and I am happy. With regard to #17 we knew we wanted MCD. We traded down and not only got MCD cheaper, but we also got Bolmaro. My point in this history lesson is that Bolmaro is found money. If we decide we don’t like his fit or don’t have time to develop him that is totally fine. He is a good trade chip and I can think of a half dozen rebuilding teams who would love to take a flyer on a guy who could become half JO and half Rubio. It also doesn’t hurt that he is 6’7 and about to turn 21 and 1/2.

If they trade Beverly it means either he is asking for a lot of money on an extension, aren’t confident he can stay healthy, or can get a good player in return. It would suck to see him get traded with how the team has meshed tho.
If we can trade Beasley for that Celtics package, that’s a no brainer with how he has looked this season. Better than what I would expect in return.

If we could do this trade with Layman or Okogie attached it would be a nice little salary relief to grab some free agents for the rest of the season.

I was surprised to see Celtics were interested in that at any point, even when Richardson started slow
the only thing Beasley is better at than Richardson skill-wise is catch/shooting, but not this season so far
but I guess that shows the premium for shooting

I do wonder if that deal might be part of a bigger trade where we route both or whichever young player we get from the Celtics to a third team.

I like Marcus Smart, but I didn't realize what a horrible, horrible shooter he is. Yes, that is two horribles. He's a worse shooter than Rubio. If we could get a first for Beverly (I doubt it) I would then like to get Smart.

I have seen some lazy takes regarding Bev's importance to Wolves this year. (especially from people who don't follow Wolves)..I feel like the biggest reason for Wolves improvement this year is due to change in defensive scheme more than anything...the current defensive scheme does have some flaws but it's far better than the drop coverage Wolves have been using for past 7-8 years.
Pat Bev has been very good and I would prefer Wolves to extend him at the right price but also have to remember that Pat Bev will be 34 this summer and has had some injury issues in this past 2-3 seasons...which is why I don't consider him as untouchable when it comes to trade talks (atm I only consider Ant, KAT untouchable in trade talks).

If you listen to the players they will tell you the importance of Pat Bev. Not only is his defense spot on and extremely disruptive to the opposing offense, but he is the locker room leader. Every wolf respects him, and they are motivated by him to commit to defense. I give a Finch a world of credit to, but don’t underestimate the importance of Pat Bev to the culture. Also, if we can get him cheap because of his age and injury history he would be a value player next year. The real question is what is his agent telling the Wolves he needs to stay?

Re: Trade Talk (Part Nine) (READ FIRST POST)
I think holding off on an extension for Beverley until after the trade deadline makes a lot of sense since it gives Gupta the maximum flexibility. After that, I'm not sure why the Wolves would hold off on signing Beverley to a 1-2 year extension. I'd rather have him locked up going into the off-season rather than opening up the chance he could sign elsewhere.

Marcus Smart makes sense as a successor to Beverley, but I don't want that contract that's about to kick in. If we are going to pay someone $15M plus, I would want to go after someone that is more of a complete player
