Warriors back court is super crowded. Rubio will have to take a paycut and possibly be the 4th or 5th guard off the bench. Don't see how that is a desirable situation for him.

your backcourt is crowded now, but Payton and Lee will be looking to get paid in the summer while your team is in tax hell and loves to take advantage of vets looking to join even on vet min contracts.

Payton and Lee might look to get paid, that doesn't mean they will. Payton is a weak-shooting, defensive specialist who plays about 16 minutes a game and he'll be 31 next season--that kind of player doesn't "get paid." And Lee? An erratic 3 pt specialist, weak defense, who will also be 31--if the Warriors don't bring him back, probably on a minimum, he may have a hard time finding a contract in the NBA.

Cavs own his bird rights. I doubt he’d turn down more money to go play on the MLE. And saying you would want to play with someone isn’t the be all end all. Almost every player has said they want to play with lebron or Steph or KD but not everyone does.
Who cares, he's an unrestricted free agent, he can go play in Spain if he wants. Cavs have no control, move the asset within this week.

Coming off a torn ACL at age 32 (this fall) I think that is exactly the role he desires and why he said this on record.

He has only played in the playoffs twice, both first round exits. The guy wants a shot at a ring, he said as much back in September, "I wish and I can hope I can play for a team one day that’s playing for a championship right away. That’s not the case right now but I want to help this team get there someday".

https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-ricky-rubio-makes-awkward-admission-about-trade/

We gotta believe what the guy is saying. He's been a professional every spot he has landed but he wants to play for a contender and no one can fault him for that.

Dont get me wrong, if he wants to join with whatever the warriors can afford to pay him, he is more than welcome.

Sorry, I meant 4th or 5th guard in the back court rotation, not off the bench.

I wasn't even thinking about Lee. Klay, Steph, Poole will all need starter minutes..Moody will be in the rotation as well. Not sure what happens to GP2, but if he leaves, would love Rubio as a replacement. IF GP2 stays, would still love to have rubio on board, but that is 3 guys he would have to battle for backup minutes in the back court. The one thing I'm really concerned about is him taking minutes from poole, who has been playing well overall and doesnt deserve to lose more minutes than what he has with klay back.

More to come in future. Can't stop those bricks.

I'd love to have him here in Detroit, but he has gotta be sick of being the only adult in the room on young rebuilding teams just to be traded every year.

No way he would go back to Minny. Absolutely zero, plus he's a terrible fit next to Edwards and DLo.

Kevin Love is 2yrs older than Rubio on that Cavs squad.

Kevin Love playing 5 games a season and slapping the ball down out of disgust does not qualify as adult behavior.

Payton and Lee are both 29 years old....

Speaking of him getting to feel like Steph Curry, quite the interesting quote from Rubio. He said, “It would be nice to play with Curry and Klay Thompson".

Very interesting, Cavs should probably move off his $17.8 million expiring contract considering he has a blown ACL and will walk in free agency.

Why is it assumed he’d walk in free agency? I think he showed the cavs how important he is to their team. They haven’t looked the same offensively since he left. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a short term deal with a similar salary he had.
Because he just said on record he wants to play with Steph and Klay, which neither guy currently play for the Cavs.
Except no, he didn't. That quote comes from an interview in Spanish where he was asked about the Warriors' rumored interest in him last summer, and he said something along the lines (not gonna look for the exact quote now) that it would have been interesting because Steph and Klay are the most exciting duo in the league to pay with. Nothing about wanting to join them now or as a free agent, it was a compliment to those guys and it was all in response to a question about a hypothetical situation in the past.

The exact quote... "Every trade deadline I’m involved in rumors… not even while injured I’m safe. It’s a little stressful, my family suffers. It’s not nice being in rumors.” Among them, the Golden State Warriors: “It would be nice to play with Curry and Klay Thompson.”

Go ahead and interpret that how ya want, coupled with his interview in September and Windy's report and October, plus his torn ACL in December... If I'm the Cavs that asset (his massive expiring contract) is gone by February 10th 2022.

lol, you're bringing some quotes from an article on Yahoo Sports that was based on an interview that had taken place in Spain and obviously in Spanish. Obviously something was lost in translation and something was edited. You're not quoting a direct source. In other words you're making **** up, nothing really happened. Cavs obviously need to make a trade if they want to have a competitive season and Rubio's contract is a logical trade piece currently.

Buddy, I'm not making anything up. He played good Soldier but take it directly from Rubio, "I wish and I can hope I can play for a team one day that’s playing for a championship right away. That’s not the case right now but I want to help this team get there someday" (https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-ricky-rubio-makes-awkward-admission-about-trade/).

Or you can take it from Windy if ya want, "Without getting too far out over my skis and getting aggregated too much, Ricky Rubio, from what I understand, was not thrilled about being traded to Cleveland, Windhorst said during an episode of the Hoop Collective podcast" (https://cavsnation.com/cavs-rumors-ricky-rubio-true-feelings-about-cleveland-trade-wont-make-fans-happy/).
