Well. Perhaps decent role players aren’t going to all fetch multiple first rounders like fanbases here were hoping.

THis seems questionable for LAC (they will need to make additional moves for certain) and not sure why Portland did this at all.
I'm curious on why you think it's questionable?
But I wouldn't mind a third team taking RoCo as Coffey, Mann, Batum make him pretty redundant.
Well, for starters, what you posted.
ANd I would add someone taking Kennard as well.
PG: ??
SG: Powell
SF: Kawhi
PF: George
C" ??
I really like the fit of Norm, Leonard and Paul, but dont like KEnnard and Morris off the bench at a combined 29 million when starting PG and C is questionable at best. (at least to me)
Zu is one of the most under looked players in the league, I think he's a good C for that unit and while I'd love to upgrade from Reggie, he has been great in crunch time and his shooting fits well.
I don't see Morris being moved, unless they believe RoCo will stick around. Def can't see Kennard being moved, though.
I think Clips do have a move or two left in the next week or so.

This is both short & long term cost cutting for Portland. The question is whether this is just a start of a total tear down or just some work around the tax threshold edges.

I still don’t see how the Clippers make any real push this year without Kawhi, but hey, can’t turn down that value.
Viewed another way, it is a huge reduction in the available players for contending teams to trade for. The names shopped around the most have been:
1. Grant
2. Barnes
3. Covington
4. Richardson
5. Young
And that took Covington off the board and by a team who realistically wasn't in contention for the other guys. This might make extracting value a bit easier.

I feel like CJ trade and a NUrkic trade must be just around the corner.
Portland cut as much salary as possible to after free agents, tank the year to get a great pick and reload for next season?
Is that the play here?

Just a straight salary dump that will ensure Portland will finish in the lottery unless Keon turns into
a player. Portland now literally has nobody to play up front next to Nurkic.

Well if you think about it logically it isn't terrible or even bad.
Powell is neutral value on his contract [at best].
The Blazers moved on from him as Simons is going to provide a similar role, is younger and has more potential to blossom more than a meh starter, which Powell is.
Covington was never getting a 1st. A 2nd and expiring was his value.
It's essentially getting out of Powells contract [Providing Cap flexibility moving forward]and trading the expiring Covington for a nice prospect [Keon Johnson] and eating $8 Million next year [Or is it possible for Portland to buy these guys out?].
I like it for Portland.
I love it for Los Angeles.
The Clippers had little wiggle room to upgrade the roster but Powell is a great fit with Kawhi and George.

I guess. Sure doesn’t seem like sellers have much leverage if that’s what Portland got though.
I also have no idea why they felt the need to do this particular deal right now. If you end up desperate wouldn’t this offer still be available at deadline? Weird to see a team settle this early.

I'm thoroughly impressed by the strength of the Clippers' rotation now. Even with Kawhi and PG missing, they have a lot of quality NBA players.

Also this puts a bit of a damper on the clips pick to OKC this year and possibly going forward

Re: Woj:Powell/RoCo traded to Clippers
oh and if the Pels are really SG buyers I have them a big loser here because they could have saved Portland even more money and given a similar asset to Johnson. Why didn't they step in here?

Think problem there are more role players than contender buyers.
So instead of paying a premium for the best role player. Contenders might shop best bargain.

The clips obviously win this in terms of on court production right now. But I still don't get this for them. An undersized perimeter shooter isn't really gonna move the needle and they lock in another contract?

I think they'll just play Norm at the 1 when PG and Kawhi are back. God if they could somehow add Simmons ... or really any capable point forward, not that there are a ton of those.

Sure, but he is still under contract next year and could help us on the court then. Or at worst we could spend another year shopping him for a better return. No reason to dump him at this moment.

This is not an either-or. Blazers could have had both.

Yeah I agree. But just him alone likely could have gotten us out of the tax with a second. And if we agreed to take back 8 million in dead salary next year we should have done even better than that!

The other thing I'm wondering is does this signal Portland fire sale?

CLE would've offered Rubio + Sextion, and someone would've given a 1st for Sexton easily, a much better offer than this, they duck tax, get a pick and no future money.
I've no idea what POR is thinking...
