So yeah, you could have still re-signed PJ and loaded up for the title defense. Then if it doesn't work out, you have around anywhere from $20-30 million in expiring salary to offload before the 2023 February deadline between Brook + PJ + Hill. Yes, we all understand that the tax is a very real factor in these decisions, but there's definitely a way they could have avoided the repeater stuff even while spending big this offseason. So the excuses to me are just that.

Assuming they resign Bobby, they already extended Grayson, plus a very real possibility of signing one of Pat or Donte to an extension in the offseason, I don't see how they could avoid the tax line next year go get out of the repeater tax. Now whether or not a fan cares about the repeater tax is something else entirely but from a pure would they be a repeater or not, they almost assuredly will be and would have moreso with PJ

I loathed JJ as a player but he's pretty good at these. His first CP interview was great and I'm looking forward to listening to this full one.

1. You would still be paying $30m for PJ this year. Yeah repeater tax is bad, but being 20+m over the tax is just as bad.
2. How do you unload $25+m in salary in Feb 2023? Either we would have to pay in draft picks for a team to absorb it or we will be taking back close to the same salary. And the $25m is if we don't resign Bobby. I don't think avoiding tax in 2022-23 is feasible.
The only real way to avoid the repeater tax is to trade Midds and/or Holiday now.

With Giannis, Midds, and Holiday we are basically guaranteed a Top 5 salary through 2024 and only matched by teams from LA, NY. and the Bay Area.

Seems like those who were on the Malik Monk bandwagon this offseason were quite right. I don't recall having much of an opinion other than yea well he's a shooter and cheap, worth a shot. But I seem to remember some had him pegged as a great buy low gamble. Who knows, maybe MKE did offer and he just chose LA.

Wow. Blazers kinda just gave up, eh?

Edit: Gave up on the trade that is. I get the shedding of salary, but I thought Powell or Covington could get something better from a fringe playoff team or even a contender.

Wow, that's an odd trade for Por. Seems like salary shedding from them to me. Essentially they could have had Powell or Gary Trent, both solid younger wings right now but are choosing to have nobody instead to save money.

Seems Clips are trying to win then so maybe that Ibaka dump won't happen.

Leaving now to go look at if there's anything on Por we could use f they're gonna quit this year.

They're 10-games under .500 and Dame looks like he's gonna be shutdown for the rest of the season. The more surprising thing is the Clippers being a buyer, especially after the reports of both PG possibly getting surgery and Kawhi "probably not coming back" this season.

Could lead to some interesting landing spots if this happened in the future.

For sure. But giving up Powell who they just traded for and re-signed is surprising. Roco, Nance, Nurkik to clear some money yea for sure all could see that coming. But this takes a good player away for the next years too.

I guess we'll see if anything else happens now with them. but they're likely going to have no chance next year, not like they had much of one before either of course, but might be summer Dame finally pushes his way out.

Yeah, RoCo sucks but it's still a terrible deal for the Blazers. They literally add nothing.

Hopefully that’s the first domino. These are the dog days of the nba season waiting for the trade deadline and watching more and more loads being managed.

ETA: I’m down to bring a bought out Aqua Dagger back as a third point/defensive chess piece.

I would’ve traded Bledsoe for RoCo and Powell when he was the starting PG on the best record team in the league. Who would’ve thought 4yrs later it would actually happen.

How do you make this trade with Dame and McCollum on the roster? Not saying Powell and Roco are world beaters but trading 2 of your 5 best players for an absolute scrap pile is **** madness. Just hand the keys to Simon and let him lead the tank to lottery ball land at this point. Portland has to trade Dame and/or Cj now right?

RoCo and Powell would’ve been so perfect in Milwaukee too. Sad face.

Our next two games are Portland/Clippers Saturday/Sunday
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Maybe the Blazers are clearing out future salary to take on Tobias and Ben Simmons for CJ, Nurk and picks.

Has this ever happened before (assuming LeBron would be leaving LA and joining a team as a player and not some other role). This would be in 2 years at the earliest?

Also, I’d hate to be another player on that team.

Wow. To make a trade like that while GTJ is absolutely balling out of his mind in Toronto has to be gutwrenching for Blazer fans.

Go get Nance if they're giving away dudes for peanuts.

Honestly, feels like a cover to give him an exit from the Lakers. Bronny is barely a top 50 player from what limited knowledge I have of these rankings (I don't tend to follow teenage boys). Considering he has the spot light and has the been with the best trainers, I am deducing that he is probably ranked too high and unlikely to be a 1st round pick/late bloomer.

I don't think a team is going to waste a first rounder on him to try to lure lebron. I think he will go to the team that gives him the best chance to get a ring and then have than team over pay for Bronny, whether through drafting him too early or overpaying in a trade.

Ken Griffey Jr played with his dad in Seattle for a couple years. That's the only instance in major sports I can think of.

This has been talked about for a while with LeBron and I think it's cool and hope it happens if both him and his son are good enough to be real NBA players at that point.
