If this is purely a tax play, I am even more confused.

Portland could've traded Norm to the Pels and gotten more cap relief & assets.
Norm <-> 3 -2nd round picks

If they are looking at a fire sale - there are MUCH better deals available.

I can’t help but feel my Cavs would’ve put up a better offer than this.

Although Powell’s deal is very long the more I think about it.

Poll currently at 92% in favour of Clippers. Feels like it's rarely THAT lopsided, though of course vote rates can change throughout the day.

(I mean the real winner is me, since I got to bust out that "Powell" pun I'd been sitting on for months.)

I've no idea what POR is thinking...

I find it hard to believe Cleveland would offer that or their 1st for Powell with Garland needing to get paid soon.

I wouldn't count on getting a 1st for Sexton with his payday upcoming.

This is terrible for Portland.

Guess if they value Keon over some bad FRPs they could have gotten, Dame is likely gone.

Yea... I might be done with the Blazers... And by extension basketball. This team is a damn joke. I mean.... Of all things... Another god damned mother **** guard...

I'm soooo tired of bringing **** guards or this team. Just sell the team and move to Seattle already. This team is run like a meth lab. Where guards are the meth.

I still don’t see how the Clippers make any real push this year without Kawhi, but hey, can’t turn down that value.

Viewed another way, it is a huge reduction in the available players for contending teams to trade for. The names shopped around the most have been:

1. Grant
2. Barnes
3. Covington
4. Richardson
5. Young

And that took Covington off the board and by a team who realistically wasn't in contention for the other guys. This might make extracting value a bit easier.

I guess. Sure doesn’t seem like sellers have much leverage if that’s what Portland got though.

I also have no idea why they felt the need to do this particular deal right now. If you end up desperate wouldn’t this offer still be available at deadline? Weird to see a team settle this early.

Timing also surprised me. Where they concerned about not having a market and/or getting stuck as a tax-payer?

It's also another reminder that a lot of teams/GMs evaluate trades first from a financial impact, and second on talent/court impact

Why do I feel Griff is going to trade the 1-10 lotto rights of the LA pick to Portland for CJ with this trade bolstering Clippers to stay ahead of them.

Hope not.

Lakers are a half game up on the Knicks for the 10th pick + lotto ticket.

Yeah, I dunno. There must be some major financial considerations going on here, this deal is utterly indefensible otherwise.

Even with them, still feels like they could have waited.

Dial 911, smash and grab in Portland. Leon’s nice; but I feel like salary relief and any FRP lines up here.

Garland is paid after Love comes off the books, it's irrelevant.

I'm sure the ability to resign Simons was a major consideration here. Still, yeesh.

Did no other GM in the league make a better offer for Norm and Cov?

Portland got fleeced!

We can hold hands in fandom of ineptitude. :)

On the real, I do think this is just short term for the Blazers. Over the long haul, there has been a lot to celebrate in Portland. It’s just unfortunate that Lillard’s window is being completely squandered. PDX has been my 2nd team for a while and I’m hopeful for their success, but this move definitely doesn’t help anything. The fans deserve better.

Somebody please buy the Blazers, move them to Seattle, and put me out of this misery.
