Fox can probably be the third best player on a good team.

Randle can't.

What's Fox ceiling at this point half a decade into it? I don't get the fascination with this guy. He has an insane contract ramping to $37 million with 4 years left.

Image

Meh. We're half a decade in and he's bad. Why sign up for another half decade at an absurd number?

Thus far he's been a classic mediocre counting stats on wretched efficiency on a bad team guy. He's had the ball in his hands and been medicore. People are citing John Wall? That's actually a pretty close comp, both were awful shooters vs. league average. But I think Wall was elite defensively. Either way ... you don't want to pay John Wall $37 million. John Wall even when he was good and making All-Star teams was a 1st round exit waiting to happen (not withstanding Paul Pierce).

So floor is John Wall and one of the 5 worst contracts in the league.

Ceiling is Westbrook? Westbrook was the 3rd best player on a finals team? KD, Harden, Him? Ibaka's prime was good as well. Fox compares pretty closely to Westbrooks first 5 years.

Image

But like, who cares? Do we want Westbricks age 25-29 seasons? For 30% of our cap? It's terrible. The only answer pro Fox people give is nebulous **** like 'you're crazy', 'go watch the game', 'something about the Kings being trash'. They can't point to anything tangible be it winning, any metric, or any evidence that this guy is a top 50 player.

Actually here's how bad Fox and his deal are, if he was just free I wouldn't want him. I'd rather just play it out with IQ and try my luck in the draft if he turns out to be bad or we can't develop him. IQ is just 21 year old Fox anyway. So just play the 21 year old making $2 million.

All true.

I don't like Fox. I'm just saying he's better than Randle - marginally.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Lot of biased in this thread. If I'm a GM trying to take my team in the right direction, I don't even look at any Randle offers unless there's 2 picks + 2 to 3 assets in the deal.

Knicks know this as well, which is why Randle won't be moved.

Some of y’all are nuts with this TS% talk comparing him to Westbrook. Fox is having a down year because of a bad first month, but he’s had TS% of .565 and near .560 the last two seasons, which is Kyrie in his first few years territory. He’s still really young, so we won’t see his true TS% potential for another few years. Definitely worth the risk.

Nah just Randle. Maybe you can take his fraud ass back to Kentucky. Let him mature a little bit.

Fox also has similar stats to young DRose...maybe that's the comp the Knicks have in mind?

By the time 2026 comes around those guys will have so much baggage we wont want them anymore and there will be a whole new crop of young superstars we passed over in the draft to hope we can sign in the future!

Let's hope that's not the reason our FO has for wanting to trade for him. The "oh Thibs needs an attacking explosive guard like Rose to be successful" cliche. That whole mentality is just too simplistic and if that's what our FO is basing decisions on then...dear god...we basically setting up the stage perfectly for the next...

and us looking at more of....

Don't get me wrong, there are valid reasons for wanting to make this trade but it can't be because of something so "simple" and "cliche" driven like that.

if any of this were true, the knicks wouldn't have extended him last year.

What changed from the time he signed his extension until now? I agree his body language is awful, he always seems angry. I don't understand it. The picture is pretty meaningless though, without context. I wonder what happened behind the scenes to cause all this. Part of me thinks it's about Dolan. That guy always has his paws in something he shouldn't. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

It's not Dolan, at least directly. Randle went out of his way to thank him for paying the media fines he was incurring for not talking after losses.

OR, Dolan is paying the fines because Randle caught him or Thibbs dropping the N-bomb. :o

Well Julius just lost 600k not making the All-Star team. The incentives may be a big part of Julius' problems this year.

He must have a huge bonus coming for time of possession or shot attempts or something

Randle is paid $1,000 per whine at the refs and $5,000 for every time he lets his arms flap around his body like a rag doll

He’s easily clearing an extra 50k per game

Return to New York Knicks
