I’m at the point where we aren’t going to use all 3 seconds so attach one to Layman then get a 3rd big like Monroe. Make a move on the fringes.

I would trade Beasley for Smart straight up without including FRP. Although it would be contingent on Twolves having a move in place for Beverley with his expiring contract being of possible value to someone.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Nine) (READ FIRST POST)
I'm ok with running with the current group, but if an opportunity comes along and we're able to get someone like Smart/Turner/Horford for a combination of Beasley/Reid/Prince/Leo + 1FP (lotto protected), I think we have to take it.
I still think we could use a scrappy, cheap, big body (Olynyk?) and also find (and groom) the next Pat Bev.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Nine) (READ FIRST POST)
My guess is we move one of Okogie and Layman, taking less money back so that we have a little more luxury space to sign a buy out guy or whoever to fill out the roster (we still have a roster space opening).. If there is a big trade coming with a lot of money moving around, can totally see the Wolves throwing in one of those guys as a third team just to make the money work and open some luxury space.
If we are targeting a big, I heard from Doogie I think that the Wolves had scouts going to 76ers games.. Maybe the attention is for Charles Massey? The Wolves would likely have to trade Naz Reid in a move like that (Naz could probably play next to Embiid).. Massey gives the Wolves size they need...
My biggest concern with a trade like that is messing with our locker room chemistry. My second biggest concern is that we have invested a lot of time and energy into this new defensive scheme.. Towns has shown he can play it, and Naz Reid as a poor man's Towns can play it too.
For bigger centers like Charles Massey, can they play our scheme? If not, do we really want us to return to the drop back scheme for chunks of the game all because our 2nd big (who plays like 15 mins a night as most) is better at that? Doesn't make a lot of sense. I haven't seen Massey play all that much, and it sounds like he is fairly athletic so maybe he can play our scheme, but whatever big man we do go after, I would make sure that they can play multiple schemes, including our own.
I just don't want Finch to have to dedicate time during practice and game prep on how our defense will look with our second big. Seems counterintuitive to all the effort we have put in on the new D... And I get that we have run some drop back this year, it's not like you can totally eliminate it from your defensive package, just not interested in reverting back to old form..
All of this is to say that we have to picky in terms of the big we go after. I am not saying we can't trade for anyone 7-feet plus.. I just want someone who offers some defensive versatility, but with the main strength being defending opposing bigs.. Someone threw out McGee earlier, I think the Wolves might have a hard time getting a Western team like PHX to help shore up our depth...

Re: Trade Talk (Part Nine) (READ FIRST POST)
I'm kind of hoping for a Celtics trade along the lines of:
Wolves out: Beasley/Okogie/MIN 2022 top 4 protected 1st
Celtics out: Smart/Nesmith
Smart would fill the Beveley role for the foreseeable future (with Beverley off the bench when healthy). I think Beverly would still be re-signed, but at a price point that reflects the fact that he's missed 40% of the games over the last 2.5 season.

I’m moderately interested but very conservative with giving up a pick until we add a PF

I've become convinced that Beasley isn't a good fit with the DLO/ANT/KAT/Vanderbilt/McDaniels core, so moving him and what should be a non-lottery 1st for a core guy seems like a good move. I still think the Wolves need another bench big, but that can be a smaller move for the short term (with a longer term answer being addressed in the off-season).

Sure, but Portland’s main concern was ducking the Luxury-Tax plus saving money next year, which Minnesota couldn’t easily offer.

Gonna be honest, I didn’t want Roco and I am kinda relieved he is now unavailable. I love the guy, I was huge fan of what he gave us as a Wolf, but his offense just isn’t there anymore. The last thing we need is another JO style one way player. We can do better.

Issue is Darren Wolfson directly contradicted his own scoop and he has a reputation for being pretty hit-or-miss. I am sure discussions are being had, but the value stuff entirely seems speculative. He does this a decent amount.

Most trusted guy is the one from the Office. Doogs speculates and is vague way too often.

Bullseye! I was going to say the exact same thing!
I like Doogie, but since he covers all MIN sports and not just pro basketball, I think his speculation is below average.
