We might have the worst referee call of the year

Post#1 » by TheLand13 » Sat Feb 5, 2022 3:00 am

Read on Twitter

So here's the play if you aren't understanding what happened:

A foul was called on the play down near the basket. A whistle was clearly heard being blown by the officials. About five seconds pass before Rozier decides to shoot a practice shot on the perimeter. Ed Davis, for whatever reason, decided to touch him while he shot the ball. At the same time, Garland steps out on the floor. Both players are on the bench. Because of this, the refs awarded Charlotte an automatic three points, and gave Rozier a technical free throw for Garland stepping on the floor.

This all happened AFTER the play was already dead. Under league rules, all of this should have been voided by the fact that the play was very clearly dead.

We've seen some very, VERY bad officiating this year. But this might be one of the worst calls I've ever seen. It's definitely the worst call of the season.

Oh and by the way, the commentators you hear in that game? Those aren't the Cavaliers commentators. Those are the HORNETS commentators. Even they are very shocked at how bad of a call this is.

thats almost as bad as calling this "in the act of shooting" to decide a game at the buzzer for a losing team

Yeah, no, you don't have a say in this. If you can't acknowledge how bad this call was and somehow think that was worse, your opinion on the matter does not deserve to be taken seriously.

Edit: People seem to be thinking that I'm disregarding his opinion entirely. No. The reason I said what I said above is because this man spent an hour trying to convince everyone in the game thread that this was not only somehow worse, but even hinted that the three points being awarded was the correct call. He is being a homer, that's all there is to it.

Bad call in a game marred by ridiculous calls that ultimately decided the game

Only bad calls that go against my team matter.

Honestly, jokes aside, Ed Davis is lucky that we have a pretty chill team. Coming from off the bench to push a guy in the air, dead ball or not, would justify plenty of dudes to start a brawl. thats punk bitch play right there and dudes have been ejected for less than that lately

Watch this video for a little more context.

Whistle blown, 5 seconds later Rozier shoots a 3 while being touched by 2 Cavs players... And he MISSES the shot!

The refs count the missed basket that was after the whistle AND call a technical.

You can't call a practice shot after the whistle as a made basket LOL if ya wanna call the tech for bench interference it is the incorrect call, because again the whistle blew 5 seconds before the practice shot...

Worst call I have ever witnessed to give the Hornets a free 4 points, plain as day.

Thankfully the Cavs rightfully got the win, despite the refs having money on the game.

Relax there tough guy... he gave him a little love tap that wouldn't even have been called a foul in live action as evidenced by Roziers reaction(lack of)

Worse call ever, never even knew you could make so such a ridiculous call. 4pts is more than game changing.

One call is debatable, the other is a clear and obvious officiating error.

I'll let you figure out which is which.

This is a bizarre ruling to be sure. Will be really interested in the explanation as to why the 3 points were awarded as there does seem to be zero justification for it.

But this feels more like a poor application of a rule rather than an egregious call like the Kevin Durant 8 steps out of bounds directly in front of the ref or more recently the assistant coach deflecting a pass mid-game again right in front of a ref.

I do understand the frustration of the OP of course.
