It's a multi-layered character-driven murder mystery. Very well written and acted and top notch all around. Lots of character exposition and there are a few points where I was thinking, "ok get to the murder mystery now." But then when they got to it was was really gripping. Recommended.

Mare of Easttown is soooooo good. The twists and turns seemed to be endless, but they all flowed organically so nothing felt contrived. And Kate Winslet is a powerhouse.

I'm trying to get my mother to watch it. She couldn't get past the first episode either, and I'm still egging her to give it another chance.

I have wondered for years if anyone would give Raymond E Feist's books a go as a movie or TV series, it looks like it might be happening.

The first three Magician books and three Daughter of the Empire books are fantastic, I loved reading them as a kid and have read them again as an adult a couple of times. There was an element of diminishing returns after those first two series. After the Serpent War books, it certainly wasn't as consistently good for the remaining series but I persisted. They all had their moments.

Anyway, maybe this never actually happens as it is not a big studio producing it, but hopefully it does go ahead and they don't manage to butcher it too badly.

Gonna check that our soon. If you haven't seen Train To Busan it's awesome. A Korean zombie movie and they somehow manage to give a fresh take on the genre. Very memorable.

I've only watched the first 2 episodes so far but the new Reacher show on Amazon is really good. I am a fan of the Lee Child book series and the show is similarly addicting and has lots of action and a good whodunnit story line. The main character Jack Reacher is totally kick-ass and the guy who plays him does a great job.

Hey guys! It's been a long long time since I've been here or on discord group. I just realized it's been 5 years since I joined this community and I've got a lot to thank for it, because I improved a lot on my understanding of the game and the business behind it with so many of you, I've had so many laughs, learned lessons and received so many kind messages when I was going through hard times. Thank you! I normally create threads for this, but this time I didn't want to be so loud about it. My life has been really busy, I barely have time to catch up with the team or any other that I root for which sucks, but soon enough I'll be able again and I'll be joining the game threads as much as possible :) I wish a great week for everybody

Last weekend, I finished reading Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, and holy crap what a fantastic book. I read it in two days, I just couldn't put it down. One of the best books I've ever read, and I don't think I'll read a better book this year (I've made a Goodreads pledge to read 25 books this year, btw lol).

Because of that, I started watching the HBO adaptation, and it's been a disappointment. It's not bad, but there are simply some changes I don't like or agree with, particularly removing much of the mystery in the Prophet's character and changing his backstory. I also don't like that they're not emphasizing the importance of Arthur Leander (who is miscast, imo; Gael Garcia Bernal doesn't exude "big movie star" charisma even though he's a great actor) especially since he's the fulcrum of all the events and characters. Also, the Traveling Symphony just come off as pretentious hipsters--which they kinda are in the book, except the series fails to make them endearing for me.

It made some good changes though like changing the Jeevan and Frank storyline, but I really wish they just remained faithful to the book. I'm only 7 episodes in and it feels like an aimless, disjointed mess, like what is it really trying to say? I felt that they made all these changes to make it more "timely" given that we're in the middle of a pandemic, but I fail to see why closely following the book wouldn't have achieved the same result. Sometimes, it's best to not just screw around much with the source material, especially when the source material is already close to perfect.

There’s a vibrant, exciting music scene happening in New York City — and newly elected mayor Eric Adams isn’t happy about it.

In remarks to members of the press Friday, Adams expressed concerns about drill rap, the musical subgenre that has flourished in his home borough of Brooklyn over the past half-decade. He characterized the music as “alarming,” linking it to gun violence, and appeared to put further blame on social media companies.

Adams acknowledged that his concern about drill rap is relatively recent. “I had no idea what drill rapping was, but I called my son and he sent me some videos, and it is alarming,” he said. “We are going to pull together the social media companies and sit down with them and tell them that you have a civic and corporate responsibility.”

Drill rap isn't my thing but I support people's right to make it, publish it and listen to it. Censorship is wrong. Always has been always will be.

Eric couldn't be more wrong. Social media companies have an ethical responsibility to allow creators to publish content. However I don't believe they share my values. I expect them to be more than happy to take more power and censor more people.

At least everyone in NY isn't lost

NYPD Deputy Chief Joseph Gulotta, who recently told the New York Daily News that it’s a mistake to blame the music for several recent shootings involving Brooklyn rappers: “These are gang shootings. I think sometimes rap and the lyrics ignite, cause some issues. But I don’t think that’s the underlying motive at the end of the day.”

Finished Succession last week. Amazing show, can't believe it took me so long to watch. Craziest season-finale I can remember.

Now I've moved onto Fringe which so far has been awesome. I'm getting close to finishing season 1 and I've read that it only gets better.
