Ty Lawson, or how to lose your marbles completely in one day

https://www.marca.com/en/basketball/nba/2022/02/06/61ffba54e2704e7b7f8b45ae.html

"Former NBA player Ty Lawson has been arrested by the Municipal Police after being involved in two altercations at a restaurant and in a street in Madrid.

The incident comes after Lawson previously had a separate argument at Barajas airport, where the local Guardia Civil police force had to intervene.

Police explained to EFE that Lawson insulted and threw glass at a customer at an Italian restaurant on Avenida Nazaret 13, causing injuries to the victim.

After the victim recognised that the aggressor was a well-known basketball player, the National Police searched for Lawson, before he was arrested by the local police when he was involved in another altercation on Ibiza Street. Lawson was subsequently taken away by the National Police.

Lawson played in the NBA for nine seasons, predominantly at the Denver Nuggets. He also played for the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards."

It wasn't really 'one day' people have known Ty Lawson was on a self-destructive path for quite some time. His alcohol issues got him knocked out of the league. Dude was like a top 12-15 PG in Denver for a couple years.

Be interesting to see the whole story on Lawson some day. He was kind of a force in the NBA for a minute--great backup for some good Nugs teams and then a strong starter for years, always seemed to have and nice aggressive competitiveness mixed with a great IQ. He was one of my favorite guys to watch for a few years, impressive to see him distribute and drive that well at his size. And then he was suddenly bad, pretty immediate drop-off that dovetailed with DUI issues.

Alcohol and drugs were obviously involved but there's always a bigger story with that. And it'd also be really hard to play like he did if he had a legit, everyday alcoholism problem. Makes me think that something more must've happened there than just 'started drinking heavily at age 26.' (Or maybe it's as simple as a few small incidents pushing the problem past where it could be contained).

Saw this happen with Marbury kinda. Unfortunately the NBA lifestyle can’t really help you overcome the past a lot of the times. Hope he gets help.

He had serious alcoholism issues that (likely) ended his NBA career prematurely. It's a sad story.

Lawson would have been the perfect kind of PG to pair with Jokic. His drive and kick game was a force. Shame he fell off so hard and fast.

The problem is not just with the addiction, but the incapability of handling it. Lot's of people who handle an addiction, it's those with extra bagage that have the biggest risks of serious meltdowns/tragedies. And seemingly-unlimited cash doesn't help in staying grounded.

It doesn't help that the dude's addiction problems go back to college. Dude got arrested in his 2nd year for underage drinking. Wouldn't be surprised if he has had a drinking problem since high school. Addictions like these are crippling and it's a shame to see a player that looked very promising fall apart the way he has.

To think many thought Ty Lawson was as promising as Steph Curry when they were on their rookie contracts, and right when they signed their $44-48m extensions (max was only $15m per year back then). Mind boggling how things have turned out fast forward to 2022.

Lawson had some beautiful hesi moves, such wasted talent.

I remember there were a few threads talking about his alcohol problems. Getting filthy rich at a young age without proper guidance/help can be a disaster.

Actually it's generally more a combination of poor parenting and mental health issues that haven't been addressed.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

His downslide started during lockout, when he signed with my poor ass Euroleague team Zalgiris, and by what he was at the time in the NBA, he supposed to be one of the greatest players in franchise history, but honestly he was barely noticeable, basically a very poor mans Bo McCalebb at a time. Then he came back to the NBA, still had his moments, but then he just became irrelevant and disappeared.

It really doesn't.

How many times have you been arrested for multiple incidents in one day in an international country?

He's been creating problems for years now. He's an alcoholic and he doesn't handle it very well at all.

Level headed people don't go postal. WTF
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.
