"That exchange four weeks ago represents the single, direct communication between Morey and Marks this season, sources told ESPN"

Believe who you want to believe, but if this sentence is true, there is no trade. Kinda hard to make a move when theyve spoke once all year and it was Mark's refusing to even engage in a Harden discussion.

So unless Morey is ready to pony up other assets to sweeten the deal I don't think there will be a trade.

I'd be very surprised if Simmons is traded straight up for Harden.

Saw this “refused call” all over my Twitter and just now seeing it occurred “a month ago”. A Month = irrelevant.

More relevant is that they haven’t talked yet, but seeing as the trade deadline is still several days away that doesn’t seem all that newsworthy. Things can change quickly as the deadline approaches.

Morey's media mouthpieces and leeks would have us all believe otherwise.

Yup... no reason for Brooklyn to do it unless it's really worth their while. Harden is playing for the Nets while Simmons is sitting on the sidelines. Who has the bigger urgency to do something for this year?

Just read Maxey is now considered “untouchable”. The delusion continues.

Literally no incentive for Nets to do now and waiting to summer is crazy leverage because you effectively kill a year of 76ers as contenders by waiting.

I disagree. If the Nets don't win the Championship Harden could be gone for nothing. If you can get a guy who is 7 years younger and does the things your other superstars don't do while also saving Lux tax money it makes some sense to see if you can do a Simmons for Harden swap.

Yeah that's the obvious counter here, especially since someone like Simmons would be a tremendous help for making the KD-Kyrie pairing work with the rest of the aging and under-athletic team (besides Claxton). And a few picks would help make that more palatable too.

But the problem is that I don't think Harden is going to say 'I'm definitely gone this summer, guys' in the next week, even if he's vaguely thinking about it. If he's not doing that, the Nets can't really even entertain the idea of trading him. Not only because of what they've invested in him so far and because of the personalities invovled, but also because their ceiling is simply higher with him and a healthy version of him is better the next couple years than Simmons. You can't give that up because there's a vague and complicated scenario in which he might leave for nothing.

Well it kind of shows how far Harden has fallen. Morey didnt have any leverage before, he has some now, at least with the Nets.

I mean the Wizards (Beal) and Blazers (Lillard) should each be thinking about trading these guys for Simmons since he is signed for much less than what Lillard and Beal will make when they are in their late 30's.

This is not really true. Only Detroit, San Antonio, and OKC would have the cap space to sign him. Philadelphia would have to be able to unload both Simmons and Harris without any salary coming back to sign him outright and even then, Harden would have to be willing to take around $60 million less.

And sign with the Magic? Not seeing a lot of teams with max capspace next offseason.

A month ago, Morey was asking for the moon and stars. I wouldn't have answered the phone either. Still probably wouldn't.

Refused the conversation NOT refused the call.

Notable difference.

Morey: We are looking for a very modest and reasonable package featuring Harden, Kevin Durant, Joe Harris, three future 1st round picks, a future 2nd round pick, and cash considerations, for Ben Simmons and Andre Drummond
