Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

Norm's such an idiot. Powell apparently bought a house in Portland right before the trade deadline, then sure enough he gets traded.

Trading for Jakob would make Pascal so happy. I think they should do it. Will probably cost a 1st round pick and Boucher.

Improve front court. Can't really count on Williams, Javonte Green etc.
Vuc is their only legit Big.
And the Bulls probably have a 2-3 year window only with deRozan being 32 and the East is wide open, so.

Yeah him buying a house is like me renting a motel. Just looks at an ad online, a few picks then clicks a button.

That wouldn't be much of an offer if they can't get that pick because Portland will be in the lotto for years to come.

I'm not giving up 15-23rd pick in the draft at this stage and with us pretty much set with the starting 5. If we had a major need at SG say, and there was a guy like Gary out there, then that's a different story. We have the 5 peices. Just need to keep growing and adding through the draft. As I said, a small skid and going back to the play in spots is very much a possibility... adding that to a first round loss, and a FRP is vital at this stage.
The current situation is akin to when we traded a mid-to-late 1st for Ibaka during the Lowry-DeRozan era. He didn’t make us a contender but he addressed team needs and made us more competitive trying to get to the conference finals. I don’t believe a single player available where the pick landed (25) has shown they could contribute anything close to what Serge did in his role with us.
We have FVV-Siakam now with arguably a better supporting cast. You can’t expect someone drafted at 15-23 to contribute much in their first (or even second) year so trading the pick to fill roster gaps now isn’t an unreasonable use of assets if who you acquire makes you more competitive.
That’s the question: Would [player] make the team more competitive in the playoffs this year and next year? Keep in mind that I think that “competitive” means getting to the ECF; trading a pick to help you get out of the first round doesn’t make much sense.
I diasgree. Ibaka addition was highly needed and a different scenario. We had a hole in the 5 rotation because JV was getting eaten defensively. We dont have that this year with all 5 pretty much set in stone. I am only trading a FRP if it drastically upgrades our squad and finishes games. I'm not seeing it this year with Turner or Poeltl ... not to mention its likely going to cost more than a FRP.
Best course of action is to stay patient, keep our assets and keep growing. FVV and Trent will already be free agencys and commanding big raises in a year ... add poeltl/turner to that (who wont be starters), and its troubling for our cap situation.

Chicago wants to remove the one guy not names Marc Gasol who might be able guard Vuc from the market.

Centers are currently shooting 54.5% against him. He also isn't as switchable as the guys he'd be replacing so you'd be losing there.
In a lot of lineups, he probably won't even be in closing lineups ahead of Barnes or GTJ.
Yeah, I'd rather move down 15 picks (our 1st for Orlando's 2nd) and get a 23 year old Mo Bamba with RFA rights then trade a first for Turner. Though maybe we think some team like Detroit or San Antonio would offer Bamba 60/3 and we definitely wouldn't want to match that.
Bamba would be ok as an alternative, but right now he is still a bit lightweight against Embiid, Vucevic, Bam.
Turners a monster defensively. You guys can pull up all the stats that are in your favor, the dude is an anchor. One of the best in the league. We aren't gonna trade for him I don't think so, the price is too high considering he's so injury prone. But you get the right peices around him and he becomes a real problem... His weaknesses are defensive rebounding and durability.

you are remembering it wrong, ibaka and tucker were traded for and looked as the final piece; we had made the ECF finals the year before.
the serge ibaka trade was done after the raptors had failed in playoffs 3-4 years.
plus the raptors had tons of depth back then, were 2 deep at every position, jv + rookie poeltl at c, pascal and delon, fvv lowry cujo traded for pj tucker.
we are in the early phase of that raptors rebuild, not the final phase.
You may have looked at Serge as the final piece but I did not. He was a positional upgrade that made us more competitive for the ECF, but even then we got swept by the Cavs.
Trading a mid-to-late first to improve the roster adds depth since the pick is there instead of player assets.
I think we are much further along than early rebuild because of the large improvement shown by FVV, GTJ, and OG this year plus the addition of Barnes who is better offensively than most predicted. I think that when healthy this is a 50 win team who can challenge for the ECF but would be limited by holes up front and on the bench. Filling those holes with a low first round pick makes sense if possible. Drafting and signing free agents to fill the holes is not easy.

Thats an excellent observation. I bet Toronto gets him.
