Yeah, after looking around on the trade board, it is evident that the Wizards simply can't offer a competitive Sabonis offer unless they include Avdija and Kispert and a future pick.
But since all their picks are encumbered until 2027, they would probably have to lift the protection on the pick owed to OKC. So basically, the package would be: Avdija, Kispert, unprotect the 2023 pick, and trade Indy the 2025 pick.
That's a MASSIVE hail Mary gamble for a guy with only 2 years on his deal. Also, it would be damn close to impossible to maintain a capable roster around Beal and Sabonis when both are on max deals and our stockpile of cheap rookie contract guys (and future rookie contract guys) is so depleted.
Next year alone we'd be paying $122M for just 6 guys: Beal, Sabonis, Dinwiddie, Bertans, KCP and Kuzma. Leaving us with $25M to pay the other 9 guys on the roster. Basically, it's Rui, Gafford, our draft pick, and minimum salary guys.
The year after that, we'd be paying $113M for just Beal, Sabonis, Dinwiddie, Gafford and Bertans. There are no starting forwards in that group. We'd have maybe $32M or so to resign Kuzma and/or Hachimura, replace KCP, pay our 2022 draft pick, and fill out our bench.
