Exactly what I'm thinking and everyone else probably as well. What is going on in NY? First Kemba gets glued to the bench earlier on and now not playing a guy you just acquired? Strange.

Yeah I’d be inclined to say the Hawks won it, or at least came out of it better than the Knicks did.

Cam wanted out and wanted to be a Knick, but the Knicks never seemed to be a good destination for him. I don't have much hope for Cam and I doubt he's going to be a Knick longterm.

Re: Did the Hawks actually win the Cam Reddish trade?
Why does this feel like a classic Berman "story" where he jumps to the most dramatic assumption he can think of & publishes it as fact?
Guess time will tell...but the less bombastic explanation could be as simple as Reddish needing some time to get integrated while Grimes shined and both Burks & Fournier needed PT so that the team could sell one (or both) before the TDL.
If Reddish racks up DNPs even after Burks & Fournier are shipped out, I'll listen when someone more credible than Berman reports that Thibs didn't want Cam in the first place

It's not like DSJ was doing that well with the Mavs before that trade. He was probably never going to figure it out.

Sothron wrote:The Hawks definitely won the trade. We got rid of a guy that wanted to be traded and was playing hero iso ball on the 2nd unit and wouldn't play any defense. Our team is much better without him plus we get a first round pick in the process. Win/win.
That's a very quick turnaround compared to... late December.
Sothron wrote:The only way they would trade him would be to get a star player in return.
Sothron wrote:He is both of those things. I would not trade him. Our coach is too entrenched with playing veterans and sticking to rotations even when they aren't working. I think Cam should be starting for us outside of covid/injuries. I think it is possible the Hawks do a consolidation trade using Cam as the best young player in a deal to get a star. I don't know how likely it is. I saw that crazy article as well. There's no reason to trade Cam for a draft pick when you hope the draft pick develops into...what Cam already is? I mean that article was just silly.
Sothron wrote:Why would the Hawks trade Cam Reddish just to trade him? That's silly talk. They might do a consolidation trade to get a superstar to play with Trae and Collins.
Or in late October:
Sothron wrote:I wouldn't trade Cam straight up for Simmons let alone half the roster in this proposed trade. Hell no.
Seems like a case of ‘that player was never good!’ only after he has been traded by your favorite team. Based on those comments, some of them just a couple weeks ago, you should be furious about the trade. Not to mention that the ‘silly talk’ (reporting that the Hawks are looking to move Reddish) was not so silly after all.

Why do you say that? Is it just that he hasn't been getting PT yet? Cause we'll see how much longer that lasts with the deadline creeping up on us.
And I don't think any team was in a rush to put the ball in his hands, so having RJ & this staff could be his best chance at learning to defend as well as he'll need to if he wants to carve out a starting spot for himself in this league

My guess; Reddish needing to learn Thibs' defensive schemes, Grimes shining, and the FO wanting to sell Burks/Fournier at the deadline meaning that they both need to continue getting PT...especially when hot...through the TDL.

Could be a good guess. It does take some time to learn a new system.

Time will tell, but I suspect that this is similar to people freaking out about Obi not getting more PT last season just because he wasn't ready for more PT. Assuming we sell one (or both) of Burks/Fournier this week, Cam should start be in the rotation to close out the season, if he's still sitting then I'll start to wonder if this isn't just Berman stirring the pot...as he is want to do...

I don't know that anyone "won" anything yet but it was pretty clear that the Knicks didn't have time for him when they acquired him.

Is grimes shining? Like he's scoring 7 in 20 minutes of playing time. His three point shooting is alright. I'm assuming he's ok or good defensively. You can't beat this guy out for minutes in your third year or whatever in the league if you're cam Reddish? I guess not.

Let's playin for 9th!

Reddish is garbage.
Was going to ask this. Why would anyone think the Knicks won this trade?
Probably because all anyone ever heard from Atlanta was how Reddish was on the cusp of superstardom and everyone who disagreed was an ignorant hater with a personal vendetta against the Hawks.

Re: Did the Hawks actually win the Cam Reddish trade?
The Knicks were gonna lose Knox for nothing after this year anyways which is why they traded him away. They still have another year after this to take a look at Cam Reddish as opposed to Knox, who they know won't see any time here so he's already wasted. Cam was a low risk high reward trade since he still has potential to be something.
But the Knicks do need to make a trade to make room for Reddish to play. Thibs and management seem to not see eye to eye, that's why the trade is what it is. He should be playing after the deadline.
The pick, whoever it's gonna be, will see limited playing time under Thibs so it seems like management has to get rid of the vets because Thibs will play them more. I feel like Obi and Grimes would have had a shot at the Rising Stars game if they played more minutes. The young guys are being buried behind players that shouldn't be part of the team's long term plans. But Thibs loves them.

Cam Reddish had value this whole time and then he goes to the Knicks and all of a sudden, the GB says he sucks. Yea, ok.

Thibs is a stubborn **** that’s worn out his welcome everywhere he’s gone, that’s what’s going on. Taking Kemba out of the rotation completely was idiotic. His rotations suck and I don’t know why the hell the Knicks wasted their capspace on a bunch of mediocre players. /endrant
