Re: OT: TV and Movies
watched all the murderville episodes. Mixed bag. I hope they continue to do these but have to be careful with the guest stars.
Conan nailed it and Kumail’s episode almost made me piss my pants. Marshawn Lynch is a lovely guy and a super funny guy for a sports star but was in over his head. Sharon stone was decent but it’s hard for her to not just straight up be an actor. The lady from Schitt’s Creek was like a terrified audience member brought onstage at comedy sports and Ken Jeong just couldn’t stop breaking at every bit. Ton of potential though.

Finally decided to watch Dopesick. Some incredible performances but what a brutal watch.

Watched the half-season finale of Ozark. Julia Garner is a force of nature.

Reacher was a satisfying action romp and thank god they actually cast a believable "badass" looking dude to play him (and not **** 5'6 Tom Cruise). Oh and I haven't watched the last episode of Boba Fett, but:

Re: OT: TV and Movies
7 episodes of 1883 have released I like it. I've always liked Sam Elliot. The overall plot moves slow but a lot happens in each episode. Episode 6 was probably my least favorite but it's an enjoyable hour.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I rank them differently:
-Conan’s was good - he knows 80s and 90s cop shows and the little details like with the chair was great.
- Marshawn’s was probably the best. For someone who didn’t like to speak to reporters as a player, he probably had the most dialog out if any of the trainees.
- I don’t think Annie Murphy seemed scared. She also had an ok amount of dialogue in improv situations. Seemed like a few area though that the sound wasn’t clear.
-Kumail didn’t want to really play along, so Will Arnet resorted to a lot of physical humor with him. Thought it was one of the weaker ones.
-agreed that Sharon Stone was more of an actor, but didn’t think it was detrimental in any way. The OR scene was stupid.
- Ken Jeong ep was the weakest, both in terms of the murder mystery itself and the ways they put him on the spot.
I wonder if they will do more. These kinds of shows are tough to pull off once the trick is revealed. They kind of also tied up the story arc.

How have you seen so many? Only four have been released.
It's what I do - sorry... for being vague.
Mainly focus on movies - but TV is in there.

They should get Donald Glover and Danny Pudi to do an episode of Murderville together.

For me, that half-season of Ozark was the most enjoyable watch of a TV show since, maybe seasons 1-2 of Narcos and no question about Julia Garner. One of those fairly rare characters on a show that just grabs your attention in every scene they are in, even mundane ones.

Not sure if It’s Always Sunny is going to continue much longer but I weirdly love the emotional episodes they’ve done as season finales the last couple years. They could’ve ended the series with both of the last two finales if they wanted to and it would be a satisfying ending. Just such an underrated masterpiece. Not many shows can be consistently funny and stay relatively fresh for 15 seasons.

Troy and Abed solve a muuuuuurder.
Weird observation, I can’t think of another example of an ensemble comedy that had a character combination that consistently made me laugh so much (without any other enjoyable characters). Troy and Abed were always funny to me. Nothing / no one else on Community was funny to me. On Parks and Rec, or Brooklyn 99, sure I had my favorite characters and combinations, but other combos would at least occasionally be funny. Can you guys think of any other legit ensemble shows that found the high points so consistently carries by two characters?

Re: OT: TV and Movies
I think the rest of Communities ensemble (even Pierce) worked well when the show was in its prime, but yeah, Troy and Abed were the special sauce. I think a huge part of why they tied everything else together was that their place in the show was not entirely rooted in selfish neuroticism. Yes, they had their moments, but the duo was about friendship, imagination, and joy and it did a lot to balance the cynicism.
A thing about Harmon's schtick that's worn me down is the "I'm very aware of my flaws, anyways, no plans to do better" thing, and it overpowers some of the later episodes after Glover leaves.

I think "It's Always Sunny" can be off putting with some of the low notes they have hit (Dennis rape jokes, Mac gay jokes, etc). But as you point out, they have always been able to hit some really high notes of: creativity, social commentary, and emotionally satisfying and complex character payoffs. I'm not sure I can think of another example of a show that has consistently hit such low, lazy, and easy comedy targets while also surpassing what any other comedy was doing. Its really unprecedented, in my opinion. As you can tell, I love it and I hate it. And maybe that's actually what they are going for. I can watch 2-3 episodes from any season and think.. this is pretty insulting and common. And then hit a 2-3 episode stretch in the same season and say "these guys are legitimately brilliant."

Thing is on most insulting type things in the show they're doing it to show the absurdity/insulting of it. Yea there's some PC terms you could say in 2005ish you can't now, but for the most part they are pointing out the bad-ness of those things and these characters. Not glorifying it. But yea a dude comedy still has to hit their allotment of dick/fart jokes, after all poop is funny haha.
I'm a huge fan and its a consistent background rewatch show for me. I'd say the last 4-5 years are hit or miss with probably about a 50% hit rate. Which after this long is still pretty good and even still the misses aren't awful. Think they might've played a bit too far into some of the characters at times, like say Mac becoming so needy to Dennis as an example. And at times since they're all mature adults now some of the recent seasons may be trying to do too much for what's supposed to be a dumb comedy overall. But again, after this long they have to do new things and 45 year olds are gonna think differently than when they were 27.
Also, Podcast is definitely worth a listen for any long time fans
