Gallo isnt a good defender but he has size and IQ to not be a complete pylon when surrounded by other good defenders.

Agreed, Nurse-ball says you play defense or you sit, ala Flynn, Dragic, etc

I'm also intrigued by a Barnes/Bagley combo.

The Wizards are a dumpster fire and we've seen Spencer play well on the Nets for a large enough sample to know he's a guy worth having on the court. This is him without Beal and from interviews it sounds like Beal disliked him trying to hold people accountable as the new guy as if he should be a leader

If he plays instead of Banton off the bench you guys think we're worse? I see the Myles Turner hype (don't see Indy giving up on him for a first in the high teens and Dragic who won't play but we've seen more lopsided trades this year) but I don't see how we're better moving Barnes to the bench for him especially if we're assuming Barnes will eventually be a star + starter in the years to come.
You can't just look at the raw numbers of players, you have to factor in their current role and what you'd project them to do on your team with the role they'd get here. He was in the 6th man convo in Brooklyn 2 years ago and I think him off the bench allows Fred more time to rest and gives him us a tall ball handler to add to the tall ball lineup off the bench.

I don't see Turner being a good fit and I think he would disrupt chemistry. Boucher and Achiuwa have been solid. Raptors need another competent guard.

it's a risky trade, in the sense, you have a guy who isn't a 100% since ACL surgery
and has a contract that overlaps GTJ and FVV payraise

Dragic+1st for Turner. Put Barnes on the bench and let him lead that unit with FVV taking an early break to help him out
Turner
Siakam
OG
GTJ
FVV
5 out offense and a defense with a legit rim protector and a top tier 6th man in Barnes. I honestly like our chances against anybody in the East this year and we're adding a legit scorer in Jalen Harris to join the bench mob next year.

for those against gallinari - don't think of it as talent acquisition.
think of it as punting an expiring deal another year down the road. we don't have great contracts to trade next year for a big name player should one become available w/o giving up one of our starters.
gallinari gives us a big expiring next season w/ only $5 mil guaranteed. punting the dragic expiring another season is still a great way to use the asset, even if it's for a dud talent.

But Raps are trying win right now. Having $20 mill/yr in street clothes for two consecutive seasons is not beneficial.
And if we don't exercise the option, then (a) we've missed an opportunity to use Dragic's contract to bring in a good player, and (b) added $5 mill to team salaries next season.
Because of Gallo's not-fully-guaranteed contract, I don't see the Hawks giving up draft capital to unload him in the next few days. Now Bogdon, OTOH ...

If we do end up with Turner for Dragic and a first rounder, then I would look to trade Boucher for some guard help.

totally against Barnes on the bench, dont want to do anything to hurt relationship, it might matter 4-5 years down the road.

Both trades are interesting. Obviously (ignoring potential chemistry issues), the Turner trade would be a big improvement.
Gallo is so slow, I feel like I can't guarantee he'd actually be able to stay in the rotation. That said, I think having a really good shooter off the bench could actually open up the floor for Banton to run an offence without the paint being as clogged.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
Again, really think about that Turner trade. It sounds good on paper but if the plan is to start Barnes moving forward (given he continues to improve in the years to come), why did we invest into Myles?
The only other guy worth benching would be OG to accommodate Myles and I don't necessarily think OG would play well off the bench as the main offensive guy. Also Barnes is not at the point where he should be leading units by himself. He has shown spurts of dominance but he's not there yet. It also doesn't really solve the problem of Fred having to play 1000 minutes because we have zero guard play and only 3 shooters

All of our moves should focus on young players we can sign to team friendly deals or guys we can get to help our bench and compliment our starters. I don't see any move to disrupt the chemistry of the starting lineup

Why would Gallo be in street clothes when he's still a pretty decent player?

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
Turner concerns me a bit because of his public complaints about being thought of as a glorified role player and wanting to be “a more prominent night-in, night-out guy on the offensive side of the ball instead of someone who is asked to be a floor spacer and hide in the shadows”. Would he do a lot more than that here? I’m sure he’d get some of the post touches that always go to Sabonis and perhaps feeling he was always secondary to Sabonis is the bigger issue that his actually role on the Pacers.
Any hint of selfishness won’t fly on the Raptors. Maybe winning would make a big difference?

So is Dragic, and Raps need a backup guard WAY more than they need a plodding big. "Positionless basketball" doesn't mean Nurse will play guys who can't defend any position.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
If we acquire guys like Turner, Grant, Sabonis and they complain about coming off the bench, they are still under team control and valuable trade pieces in the off-season. Still way more valuable than Dragic and late 1sts.
We can always sell it as: stay quiet, help us this playoffs and we’ll get you to a better situation in the off season.
