Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
My concern with Turner is twofold.
a) He wants a more focused role in the offense. I can't see that happening here, so will he be happy?
b) That 'stress reaction' in his foot is a precursor to stress fracture. That always makes me pause when I see that as it seems like a constant lingering issue.

Eff getting a high priced C. This team needs bench guards. It’s such a glaring hole on the roster. Playing our best 5 players for the next 2-3 years require not having a centre for at least half the game. Boucher, Precious, and Birch are just fine for now. We can sign or draft a big in the off-season.
If we want to make the biggest impact to the quality of this roster right now, we go and get some quality bench guards. Even just one very good one, like Bogdanovich. With the addition of some shooting Banton becomes more playable/valuable. He does a lot of good things out there but it’s tough when he’s on the floor with other non shooters.

At the beginning of the season I was excited at the prospect of getting him, but now I'm not too sure. His attitude in Indiana is a bit worrisome. He wants a more integral role in the offense. We have a starting five that's gelling really well together. We really want to break that up right now? I think if anything we need bench depth more than we need a center like Turner.

Good that he's going to Pelicans and not the top teams in East

Pels really going for it. Good for them. It's the right move in a fairly weak West, and not just desperation by Griffin to keep his job. BI is really good, JV is a fine C. And if Zion gets his health together, watch out!

He's a big time NBA veteran, so if Nurse doesn't play him than that's weird. It's not like his defensive system has been any good this year. It's broken until further notice.
The option is to buy out Dragic, attach a first for him and hope to get a starter quality player (not guaranteed this is available), or just get anyone with a pulse. Gallo fits the bill. We have the worst bench in the league and it's so bad it makes our starters even worse. Like Gallo isn't going to help. They're playing two energy bigs and a rookie who can't shoot, score and turns the ball over a lot.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
Hard to pass on that Turner deal, I'd likely do it then figure it out after, both OG and GT have been players that have come off the bench before, Scottie did it in college and by all accounts was completely fine with it so I think things could be figured out. If not, I'm sure Turner could be flipped in the off-season or next deadline.
But absolutely no interest in Gallo, he's just too slow. If we're just looking to swap out contracts I'd hope they'd just add a 2nd and try getting Gordon or Harris instead. Bogi is also super tempting but of course he'd likely command a FRP and then you'd need to be confident you will re-sign him (likewise with Turner) and GT next year.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
I'm not a proponent really of Turner, but he will be happy being a part of a real team for once regardless of his role.
He can come off the bench and still get starter minutes especially since it would allow us to rest some guys down the stretch.
If the cost is literally what is being rumoured, that's a no brainer. He will remain a valuable trade chip and we'd also have his bird rights. How about expanding the trade to include a very useful bench piece too?
TOR trades: Dragic + Flynn + 2022 1st + 2023 2nd ---------- IND trades: Turner + McConnell
Would also be interesting to see if they would trade us Rubio instead of TJM - that would be a really fun addition to the bench for a playoff push. If it turns out well I could see him sticking with us maybe for another year as our bench PG.
TOR trades: Dragic + Flynn + Birch + Svi + 2022 1st + 2023 2nd --------- IND trades: Turner + Rubio
***ADDED THOUGHT
Guys, this is just my opinion, but I think we're worrying way too much about "who will go to the bench". I think the teams support system is very strong and nothing makes guys buy in more than winning and a positive atmosphere. I'd rather he be playing 25-30 high intensity minutes anyways to maximize his effort when its needed most. Not only that, but having him will also allow us to mix up our lineups a bit to afford everyone a bit more rest down the stretch.
If there's one thing about our team, it makes players feel wanted and that their teammates and franchise wants to see them succeed regardless of their past. I can see Turner buying in especially with how strong the leadership here is (Masai/Bobby, Embry, FVV/Siakam) not to mention he'd be joining a team that prioritizes what he specializes in which is defence.

The only bench players I see fitting this Raptors team perfectly are D. Rose and Alec Burks. Shoot, penetrate, handle the ball, rebound and play pesky D.

I think #BringBackYak is a better option. He makes half as much, advanced metrics look a lot better, similar defender, sets great screens, better rebounder, more efficient scoring around the basket, and we know he fits in with the culture we have here and isn't going to have issues coming off the bench or being unhappy with his offensive role. I think that offsets the FTs, better shotblocking, and shooting that Myles provides.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion & Rumours - Raptors and NBA
I like Poeltl and his defense way more than Turner. He's made a major jump this season.
Boucher is the only big we can count on off the bench. Keep in mind that Achiuwa even though hes playing better, still has his growing pains and likely wont see the daylight in the playoffs.
If Masai can get Poetl without giving up a first, that'd be a gram slam .. although highly unlikely.
