Pels/Blazers trade: your take?

We Can Nance If We Want To: Pelicans win. They wanted to get Zion to the playoffs, and this is a big boost to the roster.

Total Eclipse of the Hart: Blazers win. This team desperately needed to be re-shaped and they have a ton of flexibility now.

McColl Me, Maybe?: Both teams win. Pelicans get their talent upgrade, Blazers keep clearing the decks and adding youth.
27
35%
Lose-Louz: Both teams lose. This won't be the impact New Orleans needs, and "two in the bush" cap plans often have a way of blowing up.

I think it's great, and I think there's a real legitimate chance that Portland walks into next season better than this season.

Potentially 2 top 10 picks and easy access to max cap space for free agency and/or absorbing large salary in a trade.

Portland is still not a free agent destination for anyone, even with cap space

The Blazers just gave themselves a chance of forming a big three this summer. They'll have the cap space to sign Harden or Beal outright and the picks/prospects/filler to trade for one year of LBJ if the Lakers underwhelm from here on out.

New Orleans taking a shot that they can make the playoff . They have a lot of picks Anyway and the west is pretty open for the play in. Ok with the price they are paying .

Portland redeem themselves abit for the earlier trade. A decent first for nance and 2 seconds . This seems to value CJ as a positive contract given Nance alone should get a pick this high and looking forward to what Portland does before trade deadline and the offseason.

Seems they are in a sell off mode before trying to sell the team with hopefully a high draft pick .

Would it be crazy for Portland to now trade Lillard for Simmons and then sign Harden as a free agent this summer?

They'd have to move guys and not resign at least one of Nurk or Simons to get there. See my thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2165217

Hoping Portland waives Sato, he'd be a great pick up for the Clips.

But man, Simon's/Keon/NAW, I like that trio for the Blazers, and potentially getting to add Murray or Griffin with the Pels pick (plus their own), and they could be nicely set. Also could give them a pair of mid lotto picks to move up for Paolo or Chet, potentially.

If Portland decided to move on from Nurkic an overpay for Deandre Ayton could be forthcoming.

Im thrilled.

Got out from a bad contract and acquired a few picks and players we might want to keep and a path toward to a lot of cap space.

If everything goes our way (no guarantee it will), POR could go into the draft with Lillard, a few other pieces, 2 lotto picks and a lot of cap space.

Very pleased.

Another Harden suitor. Guessing the Nets are watching this.

This is outright robbery by the Blazers. There's no way CJ had that value, and yet the Blazers conned David Griffin into it.

That dude (Griffin) has a strong case to be the worst GM in the league.

As for the Blazers:

I like the fit of adding CJ to the Pelicans - both on and off the court - and I don't mind the pick that they gave up considering the amount of draft capital they are sitting on. However, I would have preferred to keep Josh Hart. There is enough playmaking on the court with CJ, Ingram and Zion and his 3 and D ability would have been a nice glue piece. But New Orleans arguably got the better player in the Nance/Hart swap.

From Portland's perspective, this is an EXCELLENT return for CJ. Odds are the pick will likely fall in the 5-14 range this year (New Orleans currently sits in the 9th slot for the lottery and while they currently are 10th in the West, I don't see them winning two straight games to make the playoffs) which would give Portland two lottery picks to launch a rebuild. Two lottery picks, $60MM in cap space, and a bunch of small expiring contracts/young player to facilitate a trade (Winslow, Walker-Alexander, Johnson is about $12MM in contracts to trade plus Josh Hart has $12MM non guaranteed). They went from being in no-mans land to having a real shot to build a semi-contender around Lillard.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Josh Hart is delt again this week. Good player on a good contract and I could see a contender giving up a first rd pick for him.

This is much better return for CJ than what we expected here.

yeah, 30 games to make up 5 wins, will be tough. But they also did get Nance who is a very good player and will hopefully get back Zion soon.

I'm confused how this is robbery. POR got a bunch of mediocre bench players. Best thing here is really cap space. CJ should've been more than a salary dump.

And a possible lottery pick.

The Blazers just effectively dumped CJ's entire salary, got a lottery pick and a 21 Million TPE. They also traded out Nance for Hart.
