Low key kinda funny because both NOP + SAC are trying to push their chips in for 8th place meanwhile the Lakers are hanging on by a thread moving forward considering the Clippers will be substantially better next year.

Wouldn't be surprised if we switch to Buddy Hield instead now

He's gonna get bought out. And no, he's isnt an upgrade over any bigs we currently have

As a buyout, he'd be a solid depth piece, essentially replacing Bonga. This would mean shedding salary in a Dragic deal too...

Absolutely that would’ve been on the table for pascal, maybe more.

Given how pascal is playing now, I wouldn’t do it.

Idk why this is so hard for some people to comprehend especially when we literally went through the same thing when we had Gasol and Ibaka just a couple of years ago lol

It didn't last long, and it was for a title. Gasol basically left the NBA the second he was benched with the Lakers. He had a huge ego about starting, and then Serge didn't re-sign here in part because he wanted Gasol gone and the Raptors wanted them both back. Asking Turner to come off the bench is a bad idea, and then asking Trent to come off the bench is a worse idea, given how he's thriving in the role he's been given, and then asking Barnes to come off the bench is probably not the direction the Raptors should consider going.

The time to go for Turner is next year, when he's heading into his UFA season. The Raptors will have more information on their starting 5, Achiuwa and Barnes. I'd be surprised if there's actual legs to this rumour.

Where did you hear this? How come I have never heard any of this stuff?

Do you really believe in that? Gasol is a veteran who knew exactly what kind of player he was which is why he was fine playing 25mpg in Toronto while taking a significantly lesser role than in Memphis. Ibaka was also getting plenty of playing time while having a career year in 2019-20.

Both of ATL's points were referenced in varying media outlets.. albeit, not front page news or anything. Gasol didnt like his role with the Lakers (ie. coming off bench).. Serge had to swallow his pride to come of bench with us + was not fond of the idea of both him / Gasol coming back to Toronto...

DRTG is tough. It focuses too much on counting stats and can be skewed incorrectly.
The formula is: Defensive Player Rating = (Players Steals*Blocks) + Opponents Differential= 1/5 of possessions - Times blown by + Deflections * OAPDW( Official Adjusted Players Defensive Withstand).

Nurkic's differential is +0.9% meaning opponents shoot better against him. Harden is 0.3%. GTJ is a surprising +8.9%! FVV is 1.2%
Examples: Gobert -5.4%, Mobley -4.8%, OG -2.2%, Siakam -1.2.%, Barnes -0.4%.

Defensive stats are hard to quantify because so much of it is not countable. Good positioning that leads to players giving up the ball isn't really counted anywhere, nor are stats that show a player was so well defended he couldn't even GET the ball. But those are some of the most important aspects of defense, as opposed to counted stats like steals, or stats like opponent differential which can be biased based on how that offensive player is playing that day.

Going by DRTG alone, you'd be forced to say that Harden at 110 is a better defender than OG at 111, Fred at 111, and as good as Siakam at 110. Boucher at 107 is our best defender.

Steph Curry has a 100.9 DRTG. Draymond has a 101.5. You'd be trying to convince me that Steph is a better defender than Draymond. LOL.

I was talking about defensive RAPTOR. Nurkic's score of +3.0 ranks him 18th. Toronto's best players are Fred and Achiwa, their score of +2.0 ranks them 42nd.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/

RAPTOR still gets subjected to similar types of issues. It puts some emphasis on on/off stats, which can be a good measure, but can also be skewed. Portland is horrrrible defensively and don't really have a good defensive backup for Nurk. Cody Zeller? The rest of their team was small wings and guards basically. So it stands to reason they'd get scored on a ton without Nurk in the lineup. Does that huge on/off mean Nurk is an amazing defender? Or does it mean that Portland is really bad defensively and have no big men at all and just get scored on a ton because their guards can't keep anything in front of them?

Like again, going strictly on Defensive Raptor, you'd be trying to convince me Blake Griffin +4.6 is a better defender than Draymond +4.0. Kevin Love at +2.0 is better than Embiid at +1.6. Scottie Barnes is an equal defender to Bradley Beal? OG at -1.2 is way worse than Kemba Walker at +0.9? GP2 and Griffin should be in the DPOY conversation then as they have the 4th and 5th highest DRAPTOR.

I reallllly hesitate to use these defensive rating stats alone to determine a player's value.

Going by RAPTOR WAR, FVV should be a top 3 MVP candidate just behind Jokic and tied with Curry.
Jarred Vanderbilt RAPTOR of 3.9 is better than KD, Draymond, PG, Paul, DD etc.

There's always outliers in these stats, and I think Nurkic is one of those outliers. Eye test matters a lot here especially when talking about defense.
