Not sure it matters, but Justin Holiday is unvaccinated and can't play home games. Stay hot Sac Town.

Haliburton was the most anti-King player that team has had in ages (high IQ, makes other players better, much bigger overall impact than his raw stats) and they move him. If that isn't fitting for that garbage organization, I don't know what is.

Because the only path to a championship for a team that can’t sign big time FAs is to draft or trade for them. Hali has the glimmer of hope that he could become a top three guy on a contender. Maybe not likely but if everything broke right. Not to mention, he WANTED to be in Sactown.

Sabonis raises their floor but limits their ceiling. He’ll never be a top three guy on a title team.

Choosing to build around Fox instead of Hali also limits their ceiling because if they ever make the playoffs they are getting bounced in four games when Fox’s size/D get exposed big time.

And if in 3 years Sabonis is still the best player in the deal he offers more trade value.

It's a common trap to value "potential" over ability on this board. As you say "Hali has a glimmer of hope to become a top 3 guy on a contender" but he also has a very real chance, and even more likely, to never be as good of a player as Sabonis allready is and as such will have less value in the future.

Like i said I don't really like this trade for the Kings but it's hardly the "omg wtf" kind of trade.

Question to ask is who's more likely to hold higher value in 3 years? The answer to that question will decide how bad the trade ends up for either team and it isnt really slanted to the Pacers side although it is entirely possible it ends up that way.

It's ironic, I think Buddy and Haliburton would have been good fits WITH Sabonis. Let him run a bunch of O from the top of the key and space out with shooters.

I feel kind of bad for De'Aaron Fox. I really liked him, but the Kings have probably ruined him at this point, and apparently won't be letting go.

Happy for Haliburton to get out of that absolute disaster, though Indiana isn't exactly glowing right now. How is Brogdon gonna feel when he gets upstaged again? He wanted to be primary ballhandler.

Holiday will be rerouted to MIL, is my guess.

If Bleds is bought out, I hope we go after him. I can only imagine how filthy a Bledsoe & Holiday backcourt would be defensively.

Portland starts trying to become a garbage franchise and Sacramento reminds them who's the top of the class in that category.

Would say poor Kings fans, but if there's any left at this point, they have brought it on themselves. At least when the Bucks were aggressively terribly mediocre, we stayed because the Bucks were the only team in the state and also **** the Bulls. There's 3 other objectively better options in California for Kings fans to jump ship to.

I’m with you. I don’t like the trade for the Kings, but people are killing Sacramento for this based on Hali being an advanced stats darling. I don’t picture Hali ever being an All NBA or perennial all star level player, while Sabonis is already that good. The Kings also got off Buddy’s bad contract while taking on an expiring Jeremy Lamb and Justin who are easily flippable.

The problem is that Fox contract really is a boon on the Kings right now. It seemed inevitable after their draft that one of Hali or Fox would be dealt, but they obviously were looking at bad returns for Fox.

chances of him demanding a trade sometime near when his first contract ends are high.

I just think Sabonis is more of a best player on a bad team kind of guy rather than a third best player on a contender. Thus, he will strive in Sacramento.

Morey missed a great opportunity to fleece Sacramento for Barnes/Haliburton

I think they've been trying to trade Fox for a while but the interest isn't there.

I think that's the basis for today's trade. The king's felt they needed to do something and when that something wasn't a Fox deal they moved Haliburton instead because he had more value.

Sabonis is a really weird player. There aren't many comps for him. He's not Drew Gooden, in that he's incredibly cerebral and skilled. The problem is that for him to be most effective, you need to run the offense through him, and he's not a modern NBA fast ball movement/spacing type player. He'd have been crazy more effective 20-30 years ago.

For me as a viewer of 1980's-1990's basketball, I love watching Sabonis. He's a lot like his father. But I don't think he works as a top 1-3 player on a winning team in the NBA.

Contrast that with Haliburton. The guy just has every NBA 2022 skill you want. He'd fit in as the number three player on most title contenders. If he has any growth to his game, he might move up to a #2.

Wow, I feel so bad for Kings fans. That deal is awful.
