It is ridiculous how grossly overrated roleplayer Haliburton is.

For a middle of the road 28 year old when we have KAT? I think that capital could be used better.

That's three teams below the Wolves in the standings who have decided to trade long term assets for win now talent.

SAC trade is good timing for us, since we play them back to back.
Medical tests need to be done, they aren’t familiar playing together, etc.

Agreed. No excuse to drop any of these next 2, even if they’re on the road
Unless all of the starters tear the ACLs on the same play

Good point! Also, just because the trade was announced today, it might not be completed until Thursday, as the teams see if anyone else wants into the deal for some of the other pieces.

Holmes has excellent contract. He gives us depth at C, help us to mitigate risks with Reid extension. Our pick at the moment is projected to be around 16. Now considering the fact that we have one of the easiest schedules of remaining games it is unlikely that our pick will be higher. Even at 16th there is not much high level talent around that range in 2022 daft.

My point is you can still get better. Holmes is like a couple of 2nds based on our needs.

Ahh hard pass
Plus he’s injured
So was Chris Paul, and I thought trading for him back when he was on the Rockets was a good idea too.
So maybe I just believe in super skilled players. Who would have thought.
He has an abdominal injury. He didn't tear his Achilles or something.
If we had Lillard we'd be a championship squad. At the right price of course.

New Orleans is 7 games behind us right now. That's a lot of ground to make up in final third of the season. I wouldn't worry about them. It's more about them solidifying a top-ten spot than catching us.

Also unless I missed something they still don’t have Zion anytime soon.

Kuzma would be a good pick up, but I am not sure we go that low impact. Gupta will want something big to try and hang his hat on. That move while useful is not the splash I think he needs. I am also curious what Taylor will mandate (for example no lottery tax even if it gets the 5th seed. He is probably overseeing Gupta every step of the way.)

There's been a lot of dialogue on what will Gupta do, or what is he allowed to do.
I don't think Gupta has one hand tied behind his back. Yes he has to go to Taylor before calling the league office, but at the end of the day I doubt it will make or break anything. The biggest thing is probably the luxury tax, though most teams keep that in mind regardless.
What a "splash" move can probably do is invigorate the fan base that still seems pretty skeptical. But at the same time, we can't "Kingz" this. It has to make sense for the future of the franchise.

In 03-04 we were best in the west. Outside of that year I don’t recall us ever being a higher seed than 8. The future of the franchise is not just based on roster, it is based on revenue. We need to be a perennial playoff team with national attention to generate the revenue to contend. How many of the best teams own their own picks this year or in alternating years. We need another volume scorer who can rebound and defend the paint. If we don’t add that guy then we are one KAT injury away from crashing and burning. We might survive Dlo or Ant going down but that makes us highly relent on an unreliable bench. My chips are in on Randle, other people say Simmons or Grant, Turner or whoever else. Whatever we do we need to be willing to pay the tax or to make offsetting moves to get just under it.
One great thing about a Randle trade for Beasley, Okogie, Bolmaro and this years pick (at most top 4 protected,) is that it only adds a little more than 900k. If we can dump layman with a couple 2nds and convert our two way players plus sign a minimum we remain under the tax, keep our rotation intact, and address all our needs.

I’d be with ya…if dame was 4-5 years younger.
And Portland isn’t trading one of their best players in franchise history within the division
