Wait did the Kings just trade Haliburton, and not Fox or Bagley? For Sabonis? The Kings should be tearing down the roster, not treadmilling. Awful trade

To be fair, everyone saying “why not trade Fox instead” are kinda missing the fact that you weren’t getting Sabonis for Fox. Nor Fox/Bagley/pick whatever, I don’t think the Pacers have a whiff of interest here unless it’s Halliburton.

Indy won this trade but I never realized Haliburton was so highly regarded. To me, his ceiling feels somewhere around that of Sabonis... a couple time Allstar and best used as a 3rd/4th guy. Perhaps I'm missing something on Tyrese.

But go job to Indy for getting a younger cheaper guy who can reach Sabonis' level while also getting an elite level shooter in Buddy who Indy can easily flip to a desperate team like the Lakers if they wanted.

Holmes is either on the move or going to the bench, which means we're probably bringing in someone like Grant or Tobias Harris. Either way, hopefully we don't overpay for them. Hate trading Haliburton, but being able to get Sabonis for him was basically getting maximizing his current value. Would hate to offset that by giving up too much for someone who is only going to be a third option on an ugly contract, which Grant most likely will be once he signs an extension.

Also hope the Kings don't do the same thing the Pacers did with Sabonis. He needs to be moved to full-time center and be given more control (and shots) in the offense. One thing I hated seeing with Sabonis the last few years is how easily he'd get shut out of the offense. Part of that is him not being aggressive enough, but I think it was mostly the way the Pacers were using him on a game-by-game basis.

They better be moving Harrison Barnes and MBIII as well then, cause this truly made 0 sense to me.

Sabonis at center is a defensive disaster but youre right that center is probably his best position.

So they trade the pg who can pass and can shoot but not the inefficient one who cant shoot, and expect fox who likes to dominate the ball to fit with Sabonis

Sabonis has the best defensive rating on the pacers of those who played any significant minutes tho. U might look into players that chase blocks and steals and think "wow he's a good defender", but good positional defense and reading the game gets underlooked more often than not.

This is a slam dunk for the Pacers. We’re going into total rebuild, I mean I like Sabonis but he’s not a superstar, he has limitations and you can’t build around him like that.

Forget Turner and Brogdon, the core is now Halliburton, Chris Duarte, and Isaiah Jackson. Plus a potential top 7 pick, plus the Cavs pick, plus whatever else we can get from trading Turner and Brogdon later. This is exactly what this team needed to do.

Sabonis is not the type of guy you build around or sink huge costs into. If you are able to bring him onto a team that has 2 stars already then sure he could be a supplemental guy, but you're right about him.

It's like when the Magic last year when they smartly realized they should dump Vucevic. Ended up with an 8th (used to draft Franz Wagner) and Wendel Carter Jr as younger pieces to move forward with and drop back in the standings off the 'treadmill' to hopefully then add on another two (one is Suggs who the jury is out on) and the other will be a likely top-4 pick this year.

Guys like Vucevic and Sabonis are not #1 or #2 options on contending teams. Hell Sacramento is probably gonna wind up signing Sabonis to a max in a another 2 years and will be paying like $80m+ between him and Fox. Neither of which is a #1. That's not good roster management.

Keep in mind that Pacers value character highly and Tyrese has a great reputation in this regard. He definitely feels like the kind of guy we’d target. A lot of this comes down to him being a great fit for the franchise. We also haven’t had a cornerstone PG in what feels like 1000 years.

Even if talent wise he is a “Sabonis” level player his prototype as a big rangy point guard is just an easier skill set to build around. Sabonis is weird, he doesn’t fit well in a lot of situations and you have to tailor your roster around him, and while very good, he may not be good enough to be worth dealing with all of that.

As a Knick fan, I've been on the Halliburton train for 3.5 years now (The Summer prior to his last year year in college). I think he's gonna be a star. I would have so gladly traded Randle and two of Walker/Fournier/Burks in the same package that the Pacers just gave to the Kings for Hali/Hield/TT. Which in my opinion is a much better package than the one they just accepted.

So I think the Pacers definitely won this trade. I get it for the Kings, they are desperate to start winning and wanted to get off Hields terrible deal while not going into a teardown but damn.
Go Knicks!

Exactly. The Pacers are rebuilding and were not interested in Fox's contract.
With that said I believe talentwise it's almost an equal deal. The Kings were overloaded at guard. I like Haliburton but he's never going to be a #1 or #2 guy. Having an actual big on the roster with offensive skill should help Fox and Mitchell. Obviously Sabonis costs alot more than Haliburton but at least the Kings were able to dump Hield in the deal to offset those cap costs. It's the exact type deal Indy should be making and I get it from Sac's POV too.

Great kickoff to the rebuild for the Pacers. Tough to find a higher ceiling guy than Haliburton for Sabonis IMO

Yes but in a good way. It’s good to have 2 6-4+ guys who can handle the ball, shoot, and defend multiple positions. The bad overlapping talents are two point guard size guys who can’t defend big guards. Pacers have the opposite of that now so I view it as a strength.

True, they probably need to keep Turner now.
